    Best Archers

Khergits are a nightmare in large numbers in a pitched battle. Vaegir Marksmen are extremely deadly in a siege. I participated in a battle of each kind. Both times it was the Swadians against them.

In the open battle, though I cut down more Khergits than I could count, the Swadians took terrible losses (it was like watching the Persians against the forces of Leonidas before they were shown the secret route).

In the siege, the Swadian forces were shot mercilessly by Vaegir archers and marksmen. Their rapid firing and decent melee capability meant that the Swadians were left utterly defeated. As before, I slaughtered a great number of Vaegirs of all kinds, before I was cornered and defeated.

If you never get close, I'd say the Khergits are deadlier, but if you get close up, they're fairly easy to slay. The Vaegirs are a little more challenging in melee.

Khergit horse archers are worse than any other archer, however, for the simple reason that your troops will find them difficult to surround and defeat, due to their high speed and maneuverability. So my vote is for the "Horse Lords" of Mount and Blade - the Khergits.

Minor problem with time spent online determining rank... people could just leave a Taleworlds tab on when doing other stuff and very quickly become grandmaster knights without contributing anything.

After careful consideration of the possible meanings of your text, I have come to believe your intent was mocking. Touche.

Back on topic, anyone else think that a Calradia could use a neighbouring nation?

Ah, very nice. Certainly different seeing it in a visual format. Thanks for that.

Why you can't have a small army of immortal NPC's in Native.

Like people in real life, some of the Mount & Blade companions just can't get along. Frustrating if you wanted that little army of super heavy cavalry or horse archers. Now, I did a search for NPC companions and didn't find anything quite like what I'm posting here, so... here's my list of the...

    Expansion / Multiplayer suggestion thread

I have a few of suggestions for M&B '2' (the expansion).

It'd be nice if Geroia, the nation we've heard in passing from various NPCs, was added to Calradia, perhaps being accessible by a mountain pass (I think it was said that Geroia was over the mountains, but don't quote me on that). Personally, I'd love to see Zendar brought back as a town or even a major city in Geroia as well. It seems a shame to have scrapped it and a lot of players with the earlier versions would probably be surprised and pleased to see a revamped Zendar. Additionally, Geroia could begin neutral and possibly come to ally itself with a faction through diplomacy (the player could have a part to play there.)

The Nordic homeland could be another possibility, being somewhere across the sea. Perhaps the homeland itself could be invaded if you allied with a faction that opposed the Nords and had eradicated their presence in Calradia.

Sorry if either of these have been suggested; I rushed a little in posting this.

Hope you've all been having fun in Mount and Blade and posting on Taleworlds.

Edit: Bugger confirmed and placing altered. I love people who comment solely on the way text vexes them and don't bother to note anything else. Shows that they care.

    Self-Propagating Story System

Going a little OT here, and I think I said this before, but...

It'd be interesting if defeating a faction wasn't the end of them. I'd like it if the Faction Leaders could actually take their kingdoms back. They could convince the lords to back them, again, i.e. every time they encounter a lord of the New Kingdom, there is a chance that they will be able to convince them to travel with him and help them to raid and recapture. The chance that they would manage to do so could be dependent on the lord's relationship with you.

This would continue the saga, rather than making it as simple as going around with a legion of Swadian Cavalry and wiping the factions one by one, a single time. Now you would have to be on your toes. They could even approach you, and if you felt like it, you could help them regain power. Hence there isn't just the five faction struggle, but a ten favction struggle, the rebels against the imperials (not meant to be a Star Wars reference). Most  of the necessary mechanics are already there, too.

Just throwing it out there. I like the original idea.

Being able to push ally NPCs out of the way.

    Could be very useful.

Probably a good idea not to get into too much detail; if we start thinking about factors like strength, the speed you were moving at upon impact, your weight... well, it gets needlessly complicated.

Wonder how King Harlaus would react if I pushed him off his charger and rode off on it?

Anduril, Flame of the West. What Kind of Sword is it?

I personally thought it was closest to a 'hand-and-and-half sword' in appearance, and also based on the fact that the scabbard is worn at the waist, as well as on the way Aragorn wields it.  The length seems about that of a bastard sword.

I was showing off the fact that I know the bastard sword's other name.

As for why I started this thread, I was curious as to whether or not others thought it was a bastard sword, and if not, what kind of sword they thought it was.

Well, people are getting silly, anyway... time to lock this up.

SP Fantasy Warrior of Eternity Mod - First Post Updated

I'm sure the mod has more than a mere 600 hours behind it now. (Though I sadly confess few of those were mine...)

Had an idea for the end of the mod... though this would work best if you were on the side of the 'good guys'. It's actually a poem, of sorts. Nothing of epic Lord of the Rings quality, but then, I haven't had decades to practise...

    Eternal Dawn-Star

    As the light shines through,
    The darkness begins to fade,
As my eyes pierce the shadows, I see what is true,
I stride forward, by a cloaked force bade.

As light cuts through the dark,
So does my faith defeat my fear,
    Now and forever, hark,
As I die, shed no tear.

For this world is shadows and dust,
The truth lies beyond the veil,
It is beyond the lies we trust,
In this life, the glory is but a reflection, fragile and pale.

Deliverance is near, an end to the terror is nigh,
For the eternal dawn-star has begun to glow,
As we watch this world slowly die,
The rivers of life no longer flow.

The skies grow dark and dark flames fall, the dark times are upon us at last,
The light fades, countless have been slain,
In the midst of the darkest hour, we must stand steadfast,
Those who die as heroes, shall in heroes' graves be lain.

But at last see the light which pierces all,
Doom, terror and death have passed,
Now at long last, all hear the dawn-star's call,
Eternal peace, the dawn is here at last.

I don't know whether you'll implement it (when possible, as 'icing on the cake'), but I hope you get a chance to read it, even if only once. I am naturally biased, but I think that the poem is a beautiful one and would be a nice surprise for the dedicated players who choose to conquer the darkness.

    Thinking of you fondly, TIK.

PS: I think I said I was not returning to Taleworlds. I'm not very good at keeping my promises, am I?

PPS: If you're reading this and skipped the poem, go back and read it!

PPPS: Too many PS's... I never was good at staying on topic.

PPPPS: I may keep an eye on the mod, but I make no promises... VCE ain't a picnic and without my R and R I get very, very grumpy.

PPPPPS: Good luck with the mod. Glad to see that you have more dedication than I.

SP Modern Apocalypse 'The Dead Rise' (Another Zombie Mod... but with a twist you won't expect...)

Been occupied, but I've found the time to describe some of the missions undertaken by those in the Australian military. Yes, the codenames don't sound that great, but then again, some of the real codenames for operations weren't all that exciting-sounding.

“Genesis” – The first mission undertaken… three scientists who were guarded by squads of nine soldiers were instructed to attempt to locate and retrieve an Immortal from North America. (At this time, there were several large groups in America, and one of them assisted in providing information as to the areas which were currently lightly infected.) Unfortunately, during their searching in the “light” areas, two scientists were KIA, as were their squads. The third scientist’s squad lost three soldiers, but managed to retrieve an Immortal. Extensive testing was performed, and several facts were discovered; was found that Immortals were still able to feel pain, but because of their unnaturally high pain threshold, they would have to be in agony for them to actually react to it, i.e. on fire. This mission was classified a “success”, but many resented that so many had been KIA because of the inaccurate information provided by the American organisation.

“Eagle” – It involved aerial reconnaissance of China, which was rumoured to have been completely overrun by the Immortals. The rumours were true. With its extremely high population density, it was one of the first countries to fall. The secondary objective was to locate any resistance movements. After using heat sensing scanners, it was found that a single group of Chinese had survived. They were quickly evacuated and brought to Australia. No-one was killed during “Golden Eagle” and it was viewed as a complete “success”, though knowing that so many in China had become Immortals was unnerving.

“Sky of Fire” – After discovering the huge numbers of Immortals, this follow-up mission was quickly approved. It was a massive aerial bombing – of all of China. Though many were reluctant to agree to participate in this mission, its necessity was obvious. Many felt that in some way, the Immortals were still human. Nonetheless, the bombing went ahead… many remarked afterwards that the skies really did seem as though they were alight. This mission was also successful. Millions of Immortals were killed.

“Shadows” – An elite squad was tasked with gathering supplies from Britain, which was at this time divided into several zones. Three of the zones were overrun, one was being fought over and the last was firmly in British hands. Upon meeting the British in the safe zone, the soldiers were told locations of supply stockpiles that had been overrun by Immortals. The soldiers were instructed to attract as little attention as a shadow by Colonel “Lion” O’Rell. The British lacked the manpower to gain the supplies themselves, so the agreed to split them 50/50 with the Australian people. The “Shadow” squad was able to eliminate Immortals near three of the six supply points and retrieve the supplies. At the fourth, they met extremely heavy resistance. Only one Shadow survived, but she had been wounded. She heroically defeated the last of the Immortals there single-handedly and got the supplies to the helicopters. After giving them the supplies, she told them what had happened and told them to leave her behind. As they were taking off, they saw her slump to the ground. A moment later, they heard a single gunshot. The mission was classified as “incomplete”.

Argh... indigestion is not fun...

Anyways, it's nice to see that this topic has been kept in a state of undeath.

O'connel from the mummy series and neil from stargate?

    Got it in one.

Now, I do really like a zombie game called "The Last Stand" (and its excellent sequal!)

In the sequal, not only can zombies use weaponry to kill your survivors, hiding behind the barricade, but you can set traps (such as the bear trap and mines.)

Sounds like an idea, doesn't it? (Traps, I mean...)

    Oh and quit spammin'.

You've never used a scanner?

Pretty simple. You draw something with, say, a grey lead pencil, then you scan the image using a scanner. It's now on your computer (asuming you've been clever enough to hook the two up), after that you turn it into a Jpeg and put it on Image Shack.

On another topic, here's the first decent-sized biography:

Neil O’Connor – Renowned former soldier and treasure-hunter, this man has a keen mind which is belied by his straightforward way of dealing with problems. He’s in his early forties, clean-shaven and has short brown hair which is starting to grey. Neil knows his guns and is highly skilled with most if not all types. His favourites are light and quick-firing, though most of his army buddies remark that he’s almost as fond of shotguns. O’Connor left the American army in early 2013 to spend more time with his family. By the time the “Immortal Virus” had begun to take hold, he’d gotten his family to Australia. He fought hard to stop the virus from overtaking his homeland, but ended up having to leave with who he thought were the last of the battle-hardened American forces. He was wrong. There was still one final group fighting in America and rumours say they still haven’t given up the struggle, though their numbers are said to be dwindling. As a former officer, Neil’s advice has been invaluable to the Australian forces which are preparing for the inevitable onslaught. Though Neil misses the days when he fought alongside his soldiers, his first priority is his family and so he has steadfastly refused to rejoin the armed forces. Often he gives advice to would-be heroes, usually something simple and practical. Typically something like “An army marches on its stomach, so make sure your troops are carrying plenty of provisions with those weapons.”

Three guesses as to which two well-known characters I based this guy off. The names are pretty close. If you don't know who Dean Anderson and Brendan Fraser are, then you probably won't know.

SP Modern Apocalypse 'The Dead Rise' (Another Zombie Mod... but with a twist you won't expect...)

    Alright... back.

Ok, so our plot is more or less done.

We're most likely going for handguns, improvised weapons, knives, heavier guns (i.e. sub-machine guns, rifles and shotguns).

Worth considering are flamethrowers, molotov cocktails, grenades and grenade/rocket launchers. They'd probably be tougher to get in-game, though.

Those ideas for troop trees sound pretty good.

Let's keep the map simple for now; we don't need it to be too complex yet. We won't have to use real city names or anything like that. We just need to keep them believable. On the other hand, it might be easier if we do stick with the real names. Something to think about.

As for transportation, horses could work. Jeeps and studry civilian vehicles would be excellent, even if they don't come in for a while. Other vehicles later on, perhaps, but vehicles don't really need to be a focus yet.

The pics so far have been good. If you have some skill with wings, then some basic models for heavier guns would be great. Maybe some of machettes, too.

Now that I think about it, a custom kevlar vest (especially camo) would be really good. Even if it's just a hand-drawn sketch that you scan in.

Here's a primitive sketch (using Publisher, sadly it's all I can use, at the moment):

Unfortunately I have work to do, so you probably won't get a lot of out me this holidays.

Character biographies should be easy enough and I might be able to conjure some up in the near future.

    Good work, everyone.

PS: The one on the left is a picture from the net that I copied, pasted and based mine off of, though I suspect that's pretty obvious, anyway.

    Welcome to the team, Kazzan.

GreenGuy's role is still undecided, I'm afraid.

Kaz would probably be best suited to helping to create some basic maps so that we can literally map out our areas.

LL and I will be working on the text aspect of things (as pieviously stated).

I'm just glad that I can be off for a few days and there aren't people wailing that the mod is dead.

The full version of Mount and Blade seems to be out now. I'll be a lot of people are excited about that, huh?
