Gore and Dismemberment - removeable limbs

    Turona 说:
    Blackrain 说:
As for dissmemberment being possible i think its logical i own a few nice swords and im sure if i hit you hard enough with one of them it would surely take a limb off.. I mean a butcher uses a small meat cleaver to chop through meat and bone so i dont see why a 4 foot blade that is much heavier wouldn't do that same job.
The meat cleaver doesn't just magically pass through bones, though. The fact that a solid surface (on which the meat is placed) is causing a collision is what adds all the extra force. Also, the cutting edge of a European-style sword is fashioned in such a way that it doesn't have quite as much limb-cleaving power as various other edges. While being concave keeps it sharper for longer periods of time than others edges would be, it also means that the flesh (or whatever other material you prefer) that it's parting will get caught up on the wider parts of the blade, preventing severed limbs, in most cases.

    more staffs

Well, how about, instead of making us provide half of your suggest, you come up a new type of staff to be implemented that would do more than just be a retexture of a currently existing staff? I don't want to sound overly critical, mind you, but you really ought to post after you've fleshed out your idea enough to make it presentable to random forum-goons.

Leitenant, you just got a nice example of something we call a "douche"

Now see here, mister! The fact that I like to, on occasion, weave elaborate stories which are so ridiculous as to be immediately understood as mere stories is no grounds for such a base accusation! You have besmirched my good name, and, unfortunately, my name has not a second cheek which I may turn towards you. Therefore, I shall take no retributive course of action! What think you of that!?

Well, if you saw the majority of my past comments, you'd know I got nothin' against off-topicness!   My point was that it's absurd to attack the OP's idea from this particular angle.

I've read enough to know, but the bit of sarcasm felt called for, so it happened. As for my own contribution to the thread, I don't personally feel like I was doing any attacking. In fact, I thought I was making comments that would bring the thread more towards the realization (that's probably already happened twice [at least] in the mind of every person playing the game) that a balance between improvements in gameplay and graphics/customization is what's best.

    Two weapon fightin? (dual wielding)

Sounds like you're setting Person B up with more of a rapier/stiletto-style, which is just fine and does kick some hardcore arse. Granted, 1-1/2 feet's a bit long for a stiletto...

    Killing Horses

Alright, I'm basing my opinions on singleplayer, because I'm not in the Warband beta, but I've always preferred playing as a footsoldier, and never really worried about cavalry. Usually, I'm wielding a polearm or two-hander, a bow, and two quivers of arrows. Now, if the lancer charges at me expecting to slaughter me with couched damage, I can sidestep and swing, and hurt his horse pretty bad, if not kill it outright. If, instead, he plays the game of circling around me trying to kill me with lance thrusts I just pull out my bow and turn his horse into a pincushion. Footsoldiers, from my experience, are not totally outclassed by cavalry.

M'kay, I do agree with Hegemon about the importance of customization and immersion. I still consider Mass Effect to be the best game one can find on the XBox 360 (and a damn good one on PC) and I still go back and play Morrowind all the time. What do these two rpg's have in common? They're both extremely immersive. They create a gameworld, flesh it out moreso than some novels do their own, and then plop you in it with an intriguing narrative. Granted, a game where I can spend half an hour reading little novellas in-game gets kudos too. Hegemon is correct in that being able to customize your own characters adds to the immersive qualities of the game.

However, ultimately, I'm gonna have to stand behind Marnid on this debate. The reason I play Mount & Blade is the gameplay. It has room for improvement, yes, but in its current form, the game has a solid set-up. It's also pretty unique. Sure, I can think of similar games, but I can't slap the label "clone" on this one, because I can't think of a single game it tries to be. Another reason I reason why I favor gameplay improvements over graphical and customization improvements is that, like Snook, the computer I play on is nowhere near what a gaming-PC ought to be. With minimal video options selected, I still can't put battle-size above 70-ish and avoid choppiness in the battles.

    if it doesn't it should.
Why should that be? The only threat a horse provides to you is when it's being ridden or some other player spooks it. On their own, they're no threat to you, and, should you decide to kill a riderless one, practically defenseless as well.

    daikatana

There exists no such thing as a daikatana, there does however exist Nodaichi.

Daikatana does exist, as a term, not a weapon. Daikatana means large sword. And that's exactly what I was refering to.
And it can refer to a tachi as well as a nodachi or õtachi.

(edit: I didn't know which type of blade it's ment to simulate, that's why I went with a pseudo-term instead of a name for the weapon.)

He was probably referring to the fact that daikatana is a grammatically incorrect smushing of two words.

    Heroes as Officers

It's something I've wished for myself, but actually coding it wouldn't be a simple matter, and would leave lots of room for bugs and glitches (unless it's implemented in a way quite different from how my mind envisions it). Unless you get some other players to put this is a mod, I'd say it's not likely to be seen unless thrown into another expansion.
