John_Locke: An estranged Knight-Commander who used to oversee large forces. He has humble origins in a village far beyond the Eastern Sea, where his family probably still enjoys prosperity and good health. One day, however, a travelling band of mercenaries passed through his town and in a fit of wanderlust, he enlisted and left his family. During one tour he was captured as a POW and brought to this land on a prison ship to the Baerian Watch. After two years in a prison, he was able to earn his freedom by spying on the captor-Lord's rival, and sabotaging the enemy's machinations. Granted freedom, and the option to stay and fight as a common soldier for his until-recently captor, Locke stayed and fought. Due to his excellence in combat and counter-intelligence venues, he was able to rise through the ranks, and become Lord Uriel XVI's Knight-Commander. He served in that position for a couple of years, and undertook many subterfuge missions, sowing discord among enemy ranks.
Then came the war. Another power-hungry faction, whose name shall not be disclosed, declared war on Lord Uriel XVI and the Baerian Watch. The fighting was long and gruesome, and the war lasted two years. John Locke personally lead an assault on a certain Novosibirsk Castle, fortified heavily with crossbowmen. Having to retreat to safety after being grievously wounded by two bolts, Locke was forced to watch his men fall beneath the whizzing projectiles. Forsaking personal safety, he rallied what few men were left, and charged the gates of the deathtrap. How he survived and managed to take the castle is a thing of legend and myth to his soldiers. The cost was not cheap, however, and many families paid the price. The war was only half over at this point, with another castle needed.
After briefly tending to his wounds and rallying the Baerian Watch forces, Locke set out to conquer the last castle and vindicate the fallen. While this siege was not as costly, it was just as long. Devising a clever plan, Locke personally commandeered a sea-faring vessel, landed on enemy shores and lowered the drawbridge, allowing his compatriots to storm the perimeter of the castle. The enemy occupation was defeated soon afterwards. With the usurper-Lord defeated, Lord Uriel XVI began peace negotiations with the fallen King. Despite Locke's strong protests, Lord Uriel XVI traded Novosibirsk Castle for continued peace. Being absolutely insulted by this gesture, he resigned his commission.
Soon afterwards, he retired to his mountain home, where he lived a pensive life, the details of which are unknown. He came down from the mountain and picked up arms again, sworn to avenge the men lost at Novosibirsk Castle, and make up for Lord Uriel XVI's scorn of their sacrifice. You can find him doing mercenary work, working on undercover missions, or just sitting in the tavern telling old war stories, or remembering his homeland, which he misses fondly but is unable to return to.
