  1. Requesting permission to modify/update A New Dawn

    Hi people.

    Unfotunately the download links are broken.

    Does someone have the files and wants to upload them again? I would really love to play A New Dawn again, but without chronic1484's patch to fix the Archer damage i dont really want to :/

    Basically, I agree with you.  Two of my top three match yours.

    The Ullar are easy to train, pack a heavy punch and are very well equipped.  With high hit points and decent melee skills, they can even deal with a few enemies who reach the their line.

    The Freelancers are cheap to train and maintain, and can be recruited in large numbers quickly.  They do not have the Ullar power and accuracy, but have shields, and make great garrisons.

    The Drakken are not as cheap to train and maintain, but their armor is heavier than most archers', and their bows pack a punch.  They do very well on the open field, at long range.

    The Tolranians are another step down in power, but have the cost and upkeep to match.  They are good for garrisons.

    The rest of the foot archers have problems.  They are either very hard to train or too expensive (elves) or lack armor coverage (giants, Cretas, etc.) or they lack range and ammo (assassins, hurlers)

    Crossbowmen are great on the offense, the Zahn are surprisingly deadly, something I cannot explain by stats alone, and the Kara-Mergen line is amazing if you do not mind the high cost.

    I feel I have to say a few things about the Kara-Mergen line.  They have the elves' high upgrade and upkeep.  They are easier to train, though, because their levels are lower, and their horses add speed and survivability.  They are not great in melee, but with good micro management you can keep them safe, so you see a lot more Kara-Mergen than Crimson Rangers.  Dismounted, with their horses providing a bulwark, they are a lot harder to charge than other archers, ad their punch is second to none, including the overrated Crimson Rangers.  And frankly between "Black God of Archery" and "Red Power Ranger", there is no contest.

    Oh i totally forgot the Drakken Archer. Yeah, hes really high in upkeep compared to the others so i didnt know how to rank him honestly. But good to hear that he works well for you, ill try him out!

    Tbh i didnt even look at Horse Archers because i thought they would be too expensive in upkeep, but the Kara-Mergen looks like they are worth it. They suck at melee unlike the crimson ranger but make up for it with 10 powerdraw (why do crimson rangers only have 9 anyway?) and not to forget the kiting power you mentioned for open field.
    Thanks for the tip with the horses, thats a really awesome idea to make up for the bad melee capabilities. Just need some good infantry to slay the enemy cavalry after they got stopped :razz:

    Btw the best horse archer just has to be the Frod Sceotend Fealcan haha. Hes insane but Falcon Units are so hard to get and train unfortunately (need to have a Falcon Castle and a level 46 trainer).

    Did you try it? I gave them a poleaxe with "cannot be used on horse".
    ALL my >20 knights spawn with 1H+Shield in battle. But since they cannot use the poleaxe it doesnt make a difference if they spawn with it or not. Sorry forgot to mention it in my original post.

    With this loadout i got him down to 136/week, all the weapons cannot be used on horse.

    Depends what you want actually i would say. Tolranian Archer is very cheap and fast to train while having slightly worse stats than other arcehrs. The Ullr has the most hp and packs a punch in melee combat but lacks bow damage. And the Freelancer has the same cost as the Ullr, but high bow damage + elven like archery skill and is the ONLY trainable default archer that uses a shield (which is really good for attacking in a siege).

    The mercenary archer and the elven archers are pretty bad if you consider training time and weekly wages, which plays an important role like you mentioned in earlier posts.

    Hey Leonion,
    Do you mind explaining how troop costs of Mercenary units are calculated?
    I guess its calculated with the average cost of the units gear.
    Because my Mercenary Knights behave like this (0 leadership):

    Fully equipped, 1H sword and shield:                    312/week
    Same as above + the two cheapest poleaxes:    178/week

    So i guess its either a poorly done calculation or a bug. Since i dont think its intended :razz:

    I just wanted to say that i loved to follow your character and the way you played!

    Oh and lots of your comments on the forums are really helpful i noticed, lots of knowledge even for experienced players.

    Btw, seeing how you played this character in Gekokujo i thought you might be interested in the Tolkien Mod "The Last Days".
    Its working exactly like you played with Iwan! You cant have fiefs and are helping your faction to win. Maybe you wanna try it :razz:.

    The largest problem that sticks out like a sore thumb is the missing textures for much of the heraldic equipment. It will just appear invisible on anyone using it.

    There are also UI problems. The UI in tournament isn't displaying correctly (I've gone ahead and turned it off as a result). The UI after a tournament round isn't showing correctly, and the UI for the military academy has the same problem (Nope, the military academy is fine. It's the same in 0.62.). The UI for changing equipment auto-upgrades for your companions also isn't working correctly, as you cannot click on apply to all and have to choose the settings each time you get a new companion. The UI for the chests in castles and towns is also bad, with the words still there but the background invisible.

    None of these so far are game breaking and I've tolerated them.

    The archer siege fix seems to have barely helped. I don't really notice a difference so I will try the normal New Dawn for a while to see if there's a difference. Thank you so much for making everything save compatible. I didn't like the modified AI at first, but after playing enough with it on I came to like it. I think I'll only turn it off for when I'm training the peasants in villages. The biggest improvement would be increased bow accuracy for sure, but to be honest right now that's the only draw of this submod for me. I think I will probably use it for my bow characters, but keep using normal New Dawn for my other characters.

    Like someone else said, the game does get stuck when you talk to bounty hunters or glory seekers and the like in the field. It also crashed when I clicked on the upgrade tree for the Rhodoks.

    As far as I can see, the main problem with this submod is likely that a lot of things have been edited without doing it properly, hence things like missing textures and errors here and there. If an error exists its because you didn't edit a related file that needed to be edited as well or you forgot to change the value of something that needed to be changed as a result of the edits, etc etc. M&B is finicky if you don't do things just right. Not trying to be overly critical here. I'm just saying you might want to start from scratch as far as the file edits. It's not so far along that you can't do that yet. If you run with what you have rather than redoing it, a lot of these problems are going to stay or more problems will pop up.

    Seeing all these problems i will stick to the official 0.62 version.
    But i really would like to play an archer, so:
    Is it possible to fix the bow/crossbow/throwing accuracy? If yes, do you know how it was done?

    That used to work in 3.8.31, but something wrong with the hotfix of 3.8.4 which made it more likely to 3.8.3, hope it can be fixed or the full version of 3.8.4(which I am downloading)has no problem.

    I installed the 3.8.4 file from moddb two times now and it didnt work, I still have the 3.8 version. Even installing the 3.8.4 patch file from moddb didnt do anything.
    Still says "V3.8 v0.003" in my PoP main menu screen and the azure plate armor on heroine adventurers is still on them, which should have been removed in 3.8.4.
    Do the devs know about this problem? :sad:

    Edit: Seems theres no problem after all. Dev MitchyMatt replied to me on reddit:

    "The menu name won't change unless you rename the folder to be PoP v3.8.4 if you just downloaded it, you have the v3.8.4 version.
    Snouz may have forgot to remove the azure plate while the other azure items were removed."
  14. Floris Evolved (Sub Mod - Released)

    Hey guys.

    So I got this weird bug that i need to activate the game via serial key. If i start via the Floris evolved .exe it appears but not if i start M&B Warbands on steam.
    I played Floris Evolved for over 20 hours already without problems (always starting via Floris Evolved .exe). But then I loaded a save via steam by mistake and after that the serial key bug appeared. Reinstalling didnt do anything.

    Thats how i reinstalled, i dont know what i did wrong:

    1) deinstalled every warbands related file (steam and documents folders)
    2) downloaded Warbands on steam again
    3) started the game in Native, went to main menu and quit
    4) downloaded the Floris Evolved installer
    5) installed Floris Evolved in my Steam/Warbands directory
    6) started the "Floris Evolved" .exe on my desktop
    7) serial key bug appeared again

    Thats exactly how i installed it the first time too. Pls help, this mod is so awesome :/

    Edit: OK, thats the by far weirdest thing ive encountered in a while. I tried it again right after i posted this and now the message doesnt appear! I hope it stays like this >.<. Thanks for the Mod, its truely awesome :smile:
