It worked for me. Are you sure you're tweaking the right values?

Reducing the cooldown for the quest to make peace?

    Thanks for the info.

Unfortunately, even after setting the cooldown to 1 with TweakMB, the quest refuses to appear. I wonder if the cooldown is set when I got it earlier, and I have to do the whole 120 days now before it gets actually set to 1...

I think TweakMB offers something along those lines, check it out. You almost always want to be using something like TweakMB for these kind of things, btw, since it makes automatic backups and doesn't run into syntax errors.

I was a bit vague on using TweakMB for that, mostly because it supports an older version of PoP, would it still work?

Reducing the cooldown for the quest to make peace?

Hello all, I'd like to tweak PoP to reduce the cooldown of the quest to convince two lords to make peace, because it helps me retain a bit more control on the political situation (mostly to avoid factions getting wiped, I like variety). I tried to apply the tweak here (adapting, it of...

    M&B: Warband Japanese Release

I very much doubt it, the PC market is non-existent over there.

Actually this is a common mistake. The PC market is VERY healthy in Japan (and a quick trip to akihabara will confirm it), the difference with the west is that Japanese PC gamer mostly play graphic novels and free to play MMORPGs.

I wouldnt mind doing something physical...but how will the game work?
Have can you run forwards and backwards? have can you ride a horse and hop off?
I can see it working in 1 on 1 close range combat and the fact that enemies come at you in waves, but your ingame character would be staying in one spot the whole time, or you have no control over where your character goes.
If M&B can find a way to make it work on this, then sure, but i dont really see a comfortable way on making an M&B for the new playstation.

In theory (personally i would still prefer mouse and keyboard mind you), Move has an implement named  the Navigation controller, that can work for shield control with the motion sensors included, and has an analogic lever and several buttons for when the motion controls have to be used for "core" gamers that require moving around and doing advanced things.

    Trevty1066 说:
The Wii motion plus adds a gyroscope to the camera tracking, the same as the Move.

The wii motion plus (or the wiimote) never had a camera. Just sayin.

    MadocComadrin 说:
Sixaxis was announced AFTER the Wii's motion control, and was viewed as a half-baked attempt to jump on the bandwagon. It basically used the same, but beefed up, tech as Kirby Tilt'n'Tumble (Game Boy Color).

Actually the sixaxis has, inside, a more advanced technology than the wiimote itself. It has more degrees of freedom (six instead of three) and the "announced after" excuse is rather weak. There's no way tu develop, test and produce a technology like that in just a few months. Conspiracy theorists normally fall very short of reality.
it's obvious that it was developed for a long time.  No one knows how long. The only thing we do know for sure is that the sixaxis was released first. Which isn't surprising since Sony had been experimenting with alternate controller methids for years  with the Eyetoy.

Second, those are demos. Since they are meant to show off the controller, they have their motion control optimized and since there is barely any other content, the programmers didn't have to work on other game play mechanics, balance, mapping, immersion, story, etc... all the other things that make games good. The Wii's demos showed the same promise.

Sorry to burst a bubble. The table tennis game and  sorcery ain't demos, they're retail products that will be sold this fall.
No demos for the wii EVER shown the same promise (and they often fail miserably, like the showing of the new Zelda game at E3)

Third, the Wii combines infrared tracking (triangulation) with gyroscope and accelerometer technology. That can get the same amount of precision, if not more efficiently than the Move's Glowing Bulb. The only thing it can't  do is capture video data, which isn't used by the Move itself, but just the Eye.

You're completely wrong. Infrared triangolation only works on one axis and adds very little precision to the controller.
On the other hand the camera works on every axis, since it can precisely detect both the position of the bulb in space and it's distance (the farther it is, the smaller it is), adding precise data on every axis to the data coming from the sensors inside the controller.

Nintendo could, however, develop a camera accessory as well to even the field

yeah, they could also invent hot water. This doesn't make the current wiimotion plus anywheree comparable with the precision of the move. The actual precision in games like Red Steel 2 or Wii Sports Resort is better than the original wiimote, but actually still very clunky. Also it does absolutely no body tracking.

Finally, the Move and the Eye are not standard peripherals, thus lowering the available demographic available for developers wishing to use the technology. This means less profit potential, which means less incentive to use the technology, which means less quantity demanded for the tech itself at supply-demand equilibrium.

you forgot a little element there. The wii is aimed primarily to casual gamers. Casual gamers buy very little games. In fact the only games that are really successful on the wii are the ones produced and marketed by Nintendo. Third party games mostly flop.

on the other hand the Move is marketed towards both hardcore gamers and casual gamers. Hardcore gamers are a much more fertile ground for third party developers, because differently from the wii's casual audience, they don't play just super mario and wii sports.
The sizable list of third party developers that already jumped on board with Move is quite an indication that they have high hopes for the tech, and plan on it being more profitable than their games on the wii.

Nintendo had the Wii motion plus  (not the wii remote) a long time before they ever had this announced. Sony's move thing is poor attempt to hop on the bandwagon.

Do I need to remind you what's the first motion controller released this generation? It's named Sixaxis

    MadocComadrin 说:
I doubt the Move will be any more precise, since it would bloat the price of controllers too much. Unless Sony wants to absorb that along with the money they'll lose on their next console at launch.

Actually  from what I've seen it's pretty damn precise, much more precise than the wiimotion plus. The sorcery demo at E3 followed the movement of the wand in an extremely precise way, same for the table tennis demo I saw, it was definitely quite amazing.

That's because Move combines camera tracking with gyroscope technology. By combining the two it can achieve near perfect precision.

Considering that kinect is only a gimmick specifically aimed to offer simple no-involvment games for casual players and families, while Move is marketed more towards core gamers, I'm not one bit surprised.

The wiimote, even with the motion plus, lacks the precision to simulate swordfighting as well as the Move seems to be able to.

    Steam Sale, warband 1/2 price

To be honest,  i'd even say steam doesnt even moniter what programes you have installed,    considering a (very stupid) freind of mine has illigal versions of several valve games installed on his computer, and runs them as non-steam games via his steam account so he can chat whilst he plays.
I tell him regularly that it is a sure way of getting caught out,  but in his defence-  nothing has happened yet, several years down the line.

I seriously doubt anyone at Valve/Steam has the time/resources to run after every single small time pirate that happens to think that stealing the intellectual property of others (while costantly exposing his computer and privacy to real viruses and malware) makes him smart. If any, Steam has the undeniable upside of providing a cheap and clean alternative to more draconian DRM to developers that don't want their revenue completely eaten up by pirates.

It's funny how some people would derail a thread like this crying bloody murder about an application when they are instead offered the chance to spend half the price to get a ton of awesome games, this one included.

I just got the original Mount & Blade. I didn't consider it worth the full price nowadays (and honestly I can't fathom why TW doesn't cut it's price given that now they are offering warband, that is an expanded version of the same) , but 15 euros are well worth the possibility to use all the existing mods

Please fix these two AI issues in regards to formations and tactics! As the first picture shows it is still happening whenever you order archers/crossbowmen to hold a position they always line up in a perfect columns perpendicular to the wall.

This second picture shows the AI marches to the far left or right of the map and then towards the player’s troop formation. They get all bunched up and basically become pathetically easy pickings.

I agree with this. The two bugs mentioned above are probably the most annoying factors in M&B Warband.

It has nothing to do with "powergaming". many like to use all companions simply because they allow for much more customization than the rest of the army, making the game more interesting altogether, and giving more sense to the loot found after battle, instead of just selling everything.

tell you more, can't wait til the modders start putting more companions into the game.

After reading Sarejo's and Shikamaru's bug reports at bugtracker about this issue, we fixed that mistake. Now Sarranids have "Sarranid Horseman" instead of "Sarranid Mamluke" in one of their initial party templates.

So all factions have same exp gaining formula and equal powered initial party templates.

Awesome thanks a lot  Now the game should be more challenging and fun across the board

Any chance you'd be able to give a look at the overly conservative approach of AI archers towards friendly fire? They normally refuse to shoot if there's any friendly model in front of them, even if they are in an elevated position, unless the elevation difference is really really high. I've tried positioning myself in the archers ranks, and they don't shoot even if their line of sight to the target is entirely clear.

Mounted archers have a further problem: when placed behind friendly troops the fact that they are mounted isn't counted. The AI will consider them on foot, so even if they are obviously more elevated than the infantry in front of them (since they are on horseback) they will not fire.

Finally there was a nasty bug with archers in certain sieges (mostly sieges that involve a siege tower to my experience): When you order them to hold position away from the wall in order to target the enemy on the walls. They will do so, but they will line up at an extreme angle towards the wall instead of paralel to the walls. IE: one end of their line will be really far from the wall, while the other end of the line will go very near to the wall, almost in contact wit it.
The result is disastrous as the archers on the end of the line near the wall won't be able to shoot the enemy on the wall at all, but will instead be literally destroyed by the enemy on the wall, since they have absolutely no protyection from straight above them. i'm not sure what causes this, but the problem is probably in the routine that chose what archers are facing towards during the siege. That'd need to be fixed so that the archers face straight towards the wall and line up paralel to it

    Thanks a lot

Edit : One more addition in v1.122, AI troops are now getting more exp and upgrading faster. In 1.113 AI troops were nearly no upgrading. Please watch one center's troops note them on paper and go back one month later and compare in both versions if you want to see difference. Now they upgrade faster, so you will face better troops. So you will have more casualties. This can be slow down if you select "poor" as campaign ai.

This is really great news. I always found that AI lords had really too few top tier units, now the game will hopefully pose the right challenge.

Just one curiosity though. Did you apply this to sarranids as well? Sarranid lord always had a lot more top tier units than the rest (Mamlukes, guards and master archers). I would say their progression in 1.113 was pretty much spot on, so I would avoid applying the new change to them. This way performance between sarranids and other realms will be duly balanced.

Archers wont fire if theres Melee infront?

    Lightrend 说:
No It has been a perfect tactics for many civilizations such as for the british longbowman. Its not like I couldnt have thought of it,but this is what happens

1)Archers in front, scattered.Since they are Sarranid Archers in my case

a)Cav easily kills them by trampling
b)I lose my ranged units so quickly, since they will soak up most arrows which come at them with their weak armor.I would really like to keep infantry at front with their shield up.

2)I order infantry to advance paces.Apparently they are not clever enough to go through the space between,say,2 archers. He just tries to keept walking towards the archers back, therefore an infinite walk.He just walks towards him forever but I have seen some clever men aswell, who actually decide to use that space after being stuck for a couple of minutes. Therefore Infantry is "not" able to react in time.

    This needs an overhaul.

Against cavalry is a tad more complex. have infantry start spread out as well (one order is enough, should solve your problem of them getting stuck), gotta order them to advance earlier, since cavalry is faster. As soon as they got beyond your archers, order them to close formation 4 times. That'll create a tight pack with the archers on the back that will stop any cavalry charge.
  19. Abriael

Archers wont fire if theres Melee infront?

Unfortunately archers are VERY conservative with friendly fire. They will fire only if they are a LOT higher than infantry ahead of them.

The best way to get around this is to put your archers actually in FRONT of your infantry (I know, it sounds crazy), order them to spread out a couple times, so that there is quite a bit of space between them and position your infantry immediately behind them. As the enemy gets in range, they'll fire very effectively since they have no one hindering their line of sight.
Try to gauge the advancing speed of the enemy to understand when they'll come in contact with your lines. A few seconds before that, order your infantry to Advance ten paces twice.
They'll immediately move orderly through the gaps between your archers and effectively meet the incoming enemy.

Nords should have 2h in singelplayer?

The most typical weapons of norse and vikings were round knobbed shield, sword, axe and short/throwing spear. The two handed axe wasn't really one of their primary weapons if not in movies and novels.
