  1. Viking Conquest: Reforged Edition - Open Beta (Steam) - Update Patch 22/07/15

There is a bug with the conversation witht he riddler in the roman ruins in Cornwall, as speaking to him simply interrupts the conversation.

There is also a bug with the encounter with Solveig, after you destroy Sven's hideout. You get ambushed by assassins, and once you kill them the scene simply ends, no conversation with Solveig, and you don't get her as companion.
  2. Where is Sweden?

Id love to see a mod, some day, with Normandy, Iceland, Shetland, Far Oer, Greenland, Vinland, Russia (with sailable rivers!), Finland and Brittany.

Slaine is actually a very enjoyable comic. "The Horned God" is a true gem.

  6. The Conqueror : Serving a cause

Anybody having any tips for this quest? I can't ever build up my damn army to the point you'd need to take the city (it has 250 people in it, a lot of which are elite troops for some reason), and THEN defend it from the horde of mother****ers who come my way. As soon as I take the city about 1200 troops from The Kingdom of Alban come to take it back.

Also having trouble raising the money to sustain the army I need, since I'm only at a measly 130-140 or so men and it's nearly 3k in weekly costs. Unfortunately, that army is too small to take a village/property, but also too large to be profitable to hunt the 3 parties of vikings that are in the entire area (nothing else to attack that wouldn't be a reputation loss unfortunately).

It'd be one thing if I could ******** raid monastaries like the good pagan I am, but you get hit with such a retarded reputation loss from EVERYBODY (including people who would benefit) that it's not a feasible strategy.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

    This is what I did.

I was a norse raider so my reputation was already down the bin. I raided A LOT and saved a lot of money. I had around 100k when I tried to conquer the fortress, with a crappy army.
So I went to Northumbria, if I recall correctly around Bebbanburgh, there are many Norwegian Viking parties going around. They are "rebels" / bandits. If your army is big enough, they will run away from you. Chase them. Once you meet their leader, ask them to join you. If you are lucky, they will join for free or after some gold. If not, just leave and retry.

Hire as many Norwegian Viking as possible, they are awesome heavy infantry. Now go north. Make a permanent camp somewhere around the coast of Scotland. Now go pick your ship(s), and bring it near the pictish city you need to conquer. Now go back to the camp, pick 150 norwegian vikings leaving the rest in the camp, and go assault the city. Build the ladders as soon as possible. It might be that while you are building them, some pictish lords might assault you. I had to kill two stacks of 300/400 picts while I was sieging. If you lose too many men, simply go recruit more norwegian vikings, or take them from the camp. Now, assault the city. Your heavy infantry goes through picts like knife through butter. It shouldn't be hard to take the fortress by storm. Once you have conquered it, you should have AT LEAST 100 norwegian vikings. I've found out that 100 of them are enough to withstand an assault of over 600 pictish warriors.

Prepare for some massive battles. The picts will assault you with all they have, but their troops are no match for your chainmail wearing heavy shield using vikings. Defeat stack after stack they throw at you. If you ever lose too many troops, take the ship, go to the camp, take reinforcements and bring them back to the town. If you ever run out of supplies, run south and raid the monastery, it only takes a few hours to get there.

Overall you will have really high weekly expenses while mantaining this army. I was losing 9k each week. But I was rich, and I knew it only had to last one month. And besides, I can always make more gold if I want

weird my game automatically carries on after the story although weirdly after I give the letter to the norse and join them I have no further storyline quests. Is this meant to happen or am I missing something?

You should get more events after that, it's not the end of the storyline.

  9. Odin's Cave with only 3 NPCs? IMPOSSIBLE

I find those dungeons quite easy to do once you get a decent chainmail, a decent shield, a decent helmet and a decent sword. Just take them one at a time, walk backwards and slash them.

As a stopgap solution: Go back to your latest savegame, go to 'game options' in camp, enable cheats and in 'cheat menu' there's an option somewhere to switch your savegame to sandbox mode.

Yes I figured as much, but even then it's not so great as solution.

First of all you don't get the exp and renown from the last mission, not to mention the satisfaction of having killed Sven.
Secondly, but even more importantly, there are no true actual consequences following the victory over the Saxons in the huge battle. I was expecting that most cities and towns in West Seaxe would go to Northumbria, like East Engle does when you destroy the Cantabrian fleet.

The battle between the Norse and the Saxons is MASSIVE, winning it should have actual consequences. I thought they would come once I'd kill Sven, but now I feel like they couldn't be arsed to put them since ending the story ends the game anyway...

Come on, all sandbox games offer the opportunity to keep on playing once you finish the story! Even those with crappy sandbox like Assassin Creed! Add a possibility to keep in playing, and please add actual consequences to that huge battle at the end which name I forgot.

I was under the impression that all of the england was christian by now.

What? West Seaxe and East Angle aren't pagan.
  12. Seriously? Ending the story ends the game? [Developer answered!]

Seriously? Why is there no possibility to continue playing the game in sandbox after you finish the story? Basically, after the last mission of the story you get a Game over screen, and credits. And that's it, you get no opportunity to continue playing. I am perplexed. I find this decision...
  13. Did the vikings continue to raid monastaries even after establishing the Danelaw

I like that monasteries are renewable!

Pretty much all features should be sandbox, imho. I think they SHOULD renew / reset, but probably they should take longer and not just the couple of days it takes now.
  14. Tournaments are retardedly imbalanced and arbitrary

Still better than vanilla, where you would be given only some javelins, in a 1 vs 1 vs a guy with shield and sword.

  15. How many two handed weapons are there?

With Storyline mode, I only found the Anything else?

After raiding so many monasteries and overall being a viking *******, I have more than -200 reputation. Every single city and hamlet on the British Isles hate my guts.

What are my options for recruiting on the British Isles, other than mercenaries, convincing prisoners to join, or liberating my enemies' prisoners?

I think the game would benefit a lot by some kind of "norse" settlement on the British Isles. Make Jorvik norse, perhaps, or at least allow us to recruit norse troops there. See it as a way to recruit men among the norse settlers. It would allow us to recruit norse pagan troops for our armies without having to sail back to Scandinavia.

To be fair, this was one of the MAIN problems for the Norse raiders when attacking Britain.  It became slightly different when they started to settle, but....

The problem was low manpower, not its absolute lack. Settlers / new raiders would sail to the British Isles every year.

So are you suggesting a way of recruiting Norse raiders in Britain (like you were suggesting) or that new raiders, not under your command, come over a year after you, and then might join you or might recruit you, depending on the relative seniority of their commander (which would be the realistic extrapolation of the historical point on which you just picked me up)?

Don't mean to be needlessly argumentative - just saying, there is no real historical reason why you should be able to recruit pagans in Britain at the time the game is set.

How so? The Great Heathen Army was likely several thousands strong. Besides that there were more petty warlords each with his own band. And settlers with their families. Overall, thousands and thousands of scandinavian people that had come to live in the British Isles in those years. By the way, the game is set a few years AFTER the invasion, so there would be many norse immigrants already living in the norse-controlled territories. Surely more than enough to allow some local recruitment.

The difference is that in a real world warlords would die and then warriors would need to find a new lord to serve, while they don't die in game. So I don't see why we should speak of historical realism where the main reason for availability of soldiers is absent.

I'm not saying we should be able to recruit huge armies of norse from the norse-owned settlements in the British Isles, but at least it's realistic that some norse troops were available for recruitment.

Anyway I'd say that recruiting the norwegian vikings is a good way to represent it.

  20. Looting Monasteries as a pagan

In all fairness, I haven't lost any kind of relationship with norse lords, despite having like -250 Reputation.

Those who dislike me are like at -10 from the start because of their prickish nature.

The biggest issue, imho, is the inability to recruit any kind of soldier on the British Isles, you can either recruit mercs, recruit from prisoners / liberated people or go back to Scandinavia.
