Actually it was faction relations I wanted to edit, and the problem was I couldn't actually get it to load the save, or it crashed on startup, or something, I can't remember

Ok, heres the tweak to make all vikings (AFAIK) on land and sea recruitable.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK, MAKE BACKUPS
Open up conversation.txt and find this bit:

BUG: If you are attacked by them then you'll get the dialog shown in the screesnot, and can just say "Nothing I'm leaving" to get away. Or can choose to attack them as the agressor. Just roleplay it as viking following you around desperate to join your army (or die in the attempt).
And the money actually payed to them is still only about 1% off what it's supposed to be, I think someone said that would be fixed next patch. See 2 posts below.
