    In settings, set your battle size. It will keep reinforcing until all troops are used. My battle size is 500 on the field so reinforcing will happen until everyone is on there. I assume they set initial battle up based on ratio of the troops.

    I stop snowballing by installing the mod that decreases prisoner escapes and then sticking all captured prisoners in my dungeon =]
