Money is boring and there is far too much of it in the game currently. I think tournaments should give gradually more exp to your combat skills (melee, missiles, horse, athletics). with each round. Would be a good way to level up your char faster thus giving them meaning.
The gear from them is underwhelming. I get 34 armour helmets from it most of the time, good helmets ofc, but what is the point of having 10 helmets when I can't give my companions decent chest armour.
So yeah, imo more exp and more loot variety, money is overflowing and boring.

Edit: What if bets, rather than giving you money, would increase the minumum and maximum values of the item reward?

firstly some, prolly too long, introducment:
I've been playing mount and blade since it came out (that would be around 8 years, oh god *sighs*, talking about the original pre-warband version without Sultans, with yellow Nords and stuff), obviously I'm not plying 8 years straight that must be said!
So, I played a lot of singleplayer, but I decided to buy Warbands and with that Napoleonic wars mod. Well, firstly I got rekt and quit, but after a long pause, I started playing again two weeks ago and give it a real try. And I'm having a blast on an RP public server (sometimes I deathmatch), doing decently I would say, quickly picking up melee combat techniques, switched from first person to third, etc.
I'm only an Infantry (musket) player, really, and I don't really have problems in charging first into enemy defenses with my bayonet, if needed. So yeah, that's probably it, you can assume I'm not really a kiddie, I'm a student atm, 22 years old, mid-europe (+1hour time zone). As I said, have been playing for 14 days now, but the franchise for 8(ish) years, I was a raider in WoW so I don't really have problems in following orders/calls as long as they are given are in friendly/fun manner.
