  1. Warband in 3d is amazing! NOW WITH 3D SCREENSHOTS!

YOU GUYS are given a free amazing feature in a simple driver upgrade that support 2-3 year old cards and your bicthing that there is not support for
An Op system that is 8 years old, you should have windows 7, get with the times?.

If it is a deal with Microsoft, then it makes sense, Making people upgrade is one of the most hardest thing to do, giving you new features is that incentive,
Upgrade so we can move forward with technology.

Friend of mine upgraded to windows 7 64bit, turns out his wireless card (Netgear) doesn't work with it, the drivers are bugged and they never fixed it.  Men of War doesn't run on it under any circumstances so he can't play anymore, and his TV capture card no longer works (signal is botched in 7, works fine in XP).  To top it off, he upgraded his processor after installing and had to call Microsoft to prove he was not a pirate...ah yes the wonders of upgrading.    He's actually going to pay me to do the downgrade back to XP.

I dual boot for good reason, the only time I actually load 7 is when I want to use this feature, or play Just Cause II.  This is less about moving forward as it is Microsoft's stubborn lack of support for XP.

Don't go buying the Nvidia stuff if you have a 120-240hz HDTV, thats pretty much a lie.  They use a "smoothing" technology (trumotion, motionflow, etc) and 120-240hz becomes a buzzword instead of a true feature.

People will spend more money when the numbers go higher and higher...

The reality is that most people will need to spend about $600 for Nvidia's 3d, and that's entry level

I still have my Avatar 3D glasses.  Will those work?

You know you're supposed to give those back...

On the topic of 3d there's also Autostereoscopy, which does not require glasses and sounds very interesting.  Nintendo's followup to the DS is going to use it.

I would love to try Nvidias 3d with those expensive glasses and a 120hz monitor, but you need to spend like $600 just to see what it's like.  I can't see them garnering much support when you can't show the users what it's like beforehand.

Stereoscope red/blue to me is still just a gimmick.
  4. what is the kick good for?

Also, kicking a shield user offers no protection to the shielder.  They are affected by the kick the same as a person with no shield is, at the very least this should be changed.  I would think the best they could do is kick below the knees, and only then if they are very lucky to get that opening.

    my current experiences are:

you can "open" the shield defense and do a little damage, if you are fast enough you can also hit the opponent once before he will be able to raise the shield again but thats nearly impossible against experienced players.

In my experience, a good kicker makes it nearly impossible to defend after a kick, giving them a free hit every time they land one.  Kicking is kind of lame actually, wish it was not in the game, and I would rather see some sort of shield bash.
  6. Ideas for next Mount & Blade expansion?

More Indoor fighting areas, more special outdoor fighting areas instead of open fields.  Map chokepoints with unique battlefields that the AI makes use of / strategic and tactical terrain advantages (defensive structures, guarded bridges), circle of influence for castles that controls surrounding lands from invaders just running by.

First game was like an rpg/medieval battling experiment with kingdom stuff added on, now that they know whats possible, make the overhead map a strategic map that has territorial significance instead of random castles/towns/cities doting the landscape.
  7. CLEAN YOUR VIDEO CARDS!

Someones been inhaling those compressed air cans...
  8. Warband in 3d is amazing! NOW WITH 3D SCREENSHOTS!

I tried this out with a number of games, kinda underwhelming.  It does work pretty well with M&B though, the other characters and especially the foliage on the ground looks pretty 3d.

My problem is with my character, the colors are not blending for my guy, its red/blue bleed through, especially on my sword as it comes towards the screen, horrible separation of the colors (like changing the depth too high but its still 15% default).  Everything else looks good but my character has so much bleedthrough on the colors that my eyes don't see it as 3d, its just ugly.  Lowering the depth might work but 15% is already very low, the 3d effect is not very pronounced with that setting so going lower ruins the whole effect, if anything I want to raise it.

Also yes it (supposedly) works with every game as, like you said, its a driver enabled feature.    Some games have issues with it, some games have almost no 3d effect using it.  I tried it on GRID and the game was slowed to a crawl until I disabled shadows and motion blur (The nvidia overlay tells you to do this when playing for the 3d to work), but once I got in game it was barely any different then 2d.  Tried it with L4D and L4D2 as well, L4D2 crashed when I loaded the main menu, but L4D worked fine (Both are supported in nvidia's 3d game list), once again the 3d looked pretty crappy, and just strained my eyes more then anything.  M&B seems to work the best so far, I guess its because of the much brighter lighting and more emphasis on characters then environment shading and such.
  9. Multiplayer chat gone bad

I've never seen it get bad, just minor insults and such, commonplace in multiplayer.  Please don't ever ask for chat censorship/reduction.  That is the reason many games restrict chat access so much its like I'm playing with bots.  Heck that's the reason why I've never heard one person talk in Bad Company 2, they butchered the voice chat to reduce insults/random chatter.  They also started removing it from MMORPG's (OCC and zone wide chat) and the games just feel so dead once its done.
  10. Best MP moments?

How about funniest moment?  Here's one that happened earlier:
    i3v0wl.jpg
    Rogue Horse drive-by kill
  11. LAN server

They don't let you play multiplayer with the trial version.  Good thing is one key will let you play with you and your son at the same time.

A trial multiplayer would be great, and I'm disappointing they did not include it as it turns off quite a few people.
  12. Lan?

    When you host: No validation
    When you join: Validation required

This applies to internet and LAN.  Its a one time check, so you are not all "using" the key at the same time, your just all doing a single validation check on connect.  I have not analyzed traffic while connected but I doubt they are checking more then that initial connect.

If you cannot make the connection to Taleworlds servers to verify your cdkey, you cannot connect to games.

Edit: I will run a quick check to see if the taleworlds connection does indeed, recheck for a bit...
Edit2: Ok played for about 30 minutes and the server changed levels, no further connection established with Taleworlds during that time.  Looks like its just an initial connection check.

My opinion on this subject has always been I want true offline LAN.  I have a hard time playing with a friend of mine with this system, but its nice to know once we run the check we can drop the internet (riding neighbors wireless).
  13. All the servers are 1.103?

1.103 and 1.104 are compatible, and 1.104 is a single player only patch, so the servers remained 1.103.
  14. Divorce for women

I thought that marriage was supposed to be diplomatic advantage, if you marry into a royal family that would give you a strong relationship that you use to your advantage.  As it is now its just a sentence in a feature list when people buy the game, nothing more.
  15. Troops with two shields?

You can have 3 shields, not just 2.  OK well technically 4 but then you wouldn't have a weapon.  I don't have a problem with 2, but 3 is a bit stupid, as the shields are inside of each other.
  16. Warband Campaign (in development)

Will this work with bots, so you can have something like a 1v1 campaign?

Maybe just have king vs king, with complete control of mobile armies instead of knights.  Then just use 1v1 in battles with bot control.  I would love to play this with a friend of mine like that.
  17. The "level 24 dilemma"

Tactics puts more of your troops on the battlefield in comparison to your enemy, at least that was my understanding.  Pretty critical skill in that sense.
  18. Couched Lance

Before it was overpowered, couching spam every game, now its extremely effective when learned, but has inherent disadvantages.  I don't see the issue here, the gameplay of couching was too powerful, and now its not.  If its optional that defeats the entire purpose of the change, multiplayer balance.

I have not played single player so I don't know how it works there, but if they changed it there I agree you should have the option to have it either way.
  19. Playing via Hamachi possible?

For dedicated servers its 7240 and steam is 7241, not sure about in game hosting.  The game needs direct IP connection because the server browser is not the greatest, some servers I play on never show up, but I saved them as favorites and if I go to that tab they are shown just fine, its really stupid.

Also offline LAN would be nice of course.

And yeah Hamachi doesn't shut off your internet, but it might tell the game not to send packets through its normal source, but reroute them through Hamachi.  I am not familiar with its manipulation of traffic, but my guess is that it is trying to send all its packets through the Hamachi network, thereby screwing up the connection to Taleworlds because that would be an external network.

Edit:  If opening the ports is not working, obviously first check for windows firewall or 3rd party and shut that down, but you can test if its ports by putting yourself into the DMZ in your router settings, and also set NAT filtering from secure to open.  This is a for sure way to know if its the router or not, but of course this is a very open state to be in on the internet and I would not recommend it besides testing.
  20. Playing via Hamachi possible?

I guess I should clarify that is is LAN, but it is not offline LAN.  That's where the difference lies, as LAN in most cases means no internet, but with this game you have a LAN connection with an internet verification that is also required when you make the connection.  I believe Hamachi controls all traffic when you run the games, and also encrypts it, so it would definitely interfere with that verification.
