    Campaign AI - Beta 1.4.0

When the AI is taking into account how many allied parties are going to defend a settlement, do they look at how far away those parties are?

For example: if the Party A (AI controlled) is 12 hours away from Lageta, but sees there are two more AI allies (B and C) heading there to defend, it might decide not to go help defend Lageta, correct?

In this situation, would A decide to keep going to Lageta if B and C were super far away? Let’s say they are 4 days away.

    New Items from Beta e1.2.0

I believe they mentioned in the patch notes that these attributes were partially to offset the profits from fighting non-Vassals.
Forest Bandits and Looters, for example, probably wouldn’t have the best equipment, but you could make some decent money just constantly fighting them.
It seems to be part of the general desire to make current money sources more difficult. When they update Kingdom Management and Diplomacy I think there will be more ways to spend money, and this the economy will be better balanced.

    [Suggestion] Ambush Sytem: Lure party

I’ve thought about this as well.

Can the AI see units that they haven’t actually spotted? If I were to hide cavalry over a ridge and they never have a chance to see them, do they still send troops after them?

    Recruiting from Enemy Villages

I’d be ok with recruiting, but make it free so it is kind of a ‘conscription’ or ‘pressed into service’ type of thing.

    kingdom going to war?

The AI will declare war on you repeatedly if they think you’ll give them more money each time. You do have to beat them down before offering leave or they will think of it as free money.
At least, that’s how I think it works. Really hard to tell in an EA game.

is trade broken? + tournaments gains too low?

For trade, you have to sell to places that have a demand for the good as well. While every town might want SOME silver, they don’t need 5 silver if they don’t have a silversmith or jeweler.
I agree with you, OP, overall though. The rate does go down too quickly.

Tournaments are very much in the category of “this was super simplified and dumbed down for Early Access.” I’m sure they’ll change. If not, at least we know Taleworlds empowers modders.

How to be awarded fiefs from faction.

The lower your clan level, the less fiefs you will get. You'll be prioritized if you have NO fiefs, but so will the other nobles.

As your clan level increases, you will get better stuff. I was only getting a single castle at Rank 3, then when I went to Rank 4, I got a city that I didn't even help siege.

    Big Bug (Not Game Breaking)

    It's fixed in the beta.

How is your performance in Sieges?

Oddly enough I dont have issues with siege battles in MP so I guess it has to do with the AI trying to interact with siege equipement or somethin

The lag is most certainly from the NPC soldiers on then attacking side. In MP sieges, everyone is human.
  10. Major_Heartfire

How is your performance in Sieges?

Have y'all tried to see if there is any difference when you're commanding the army committing to the siege yourself? I'm having similar issues with sieges.

I'm wondering if lag could be decreased by having a player command the siege directly (rather than delegate, as is default). If we tell the groups of soldiers to go up the ladders, will they do it better?
  11. Major_Heartfire

[Siege] Battering ram is too op, siege towers are useless, ladders are ok.

In one of the most recent sieges I participated in, my AI army commander built a siege ramp instead of a siege tower - and the soldiers seemed to do a MUCH better job of using that. However, they did reach the walls significantly before the ram took down the gates (and inner gates).

There's still all sorts of pathfinding issues with sieges. They are significantly better and less laggy since release, but still much work to do. Only using one ladder of a tower, and not filling/consistently climbing ladders (the first few soldiers are going to die, of course, but soldiers need to keep climbing and climbing and filling the wall - that's why they are assigned to those ladders). The soldiers reloading a catapult/trebuchet regularly run into me or other people on the siege engine, rather than go around us and properly put the stone in its

I'd like to see sieges, especially city sieges, take longer and require more commitment before they can truly begin but, that would require the AI to store more food in their settlements (and armies...). Most of the time, castles seem to be out of food in a few days, and armies have a little over a week (unless I personally brought a lot of it with me).

I haven't played nearly enough with formations when attacking a castle - definitely something I need to explore more.

    Poll: Polearms and shields

My issue with swinging polearms on foot is the slow speed. The enemy soldiers always move so much faster than I do (on foot at least), that I can't hit them before they are all up inside my 2ft COVID-19 quarantine bubble.

Regardless, there is nothing more satisfying than figuring out which enemy is the Lord, and hitting him square in the chest with a couched lance. The rag doll is so satisfying.

I'm still playing through my first campaign (haven't restarted despite all the patches). I've been keeping a bow as my secondary weapon, and mostly trying to remember to switch out my polearm when I am besieging a castle. Unless y'all got some good tips (yes, that's a polearm pun), I find them pretty mediocre on the walls in comparison to a good short axe.
  13. Major_Heartfire

So guys, how did you besiege a castle solo?

Try to go after castles that have recently been taken.

If Sturgia is fighting Vlandia or Battania, then wait until a castle switches sides, and go siege it. Usually, there will be less than 100 defenders.

Populations of recruitable villagers is basically unlimited for the AI. They won't stop coming just because you beat them repeatedly.
  14. Major_Heartfire

Latest patch no longer show green or red values when comparing gear.

Did you recently get the Trade perk that gives you more money for equipment? That may be causing it.

    Persuade a king

Increase your Persuasion skill, and do any tasks he asks of you. I haven't tried it recently, but I think doing any tasks for his wife will also improve your relationship with him.

    War, an endless cycle

Yea, I have started to notice that. Their Sergeants are kicking my ass whenever I besiege a place. But, at 50% difficulty my Knights, Mamalukes and Huskies are enough to take a garrison of ~200 soldiers as long as only around 10% of it is Sergeants. Nords, Vaegirs, Swadians, and Rhodoks are all at war with the Sultanate right now, so it has been a very busy couple of days in-game. Hopefully, we will make peace with the Rhodoks soon enough. After being very tired of peace, I am getting even more tired of this endless war.

    War, an endless cycle

    1) Ok, good. Just wanted to make sure.
    2) I am playing at about 50% difficulty. But I will probably raise it because my Swadian Knights are just obliterating people left and right. Makes the game a lot less challenging.
    3) I'm working very successfully on renown, already up to around 450 thanks to a massive siege defense, and attacking the Rhodoks as they routed. (I took Jelkala with a few other lords and it was awarded to me, then counter-attacked a few days later before I could get a significant garrison to defend it) Right to Rule is still something I need to work on. I'm not sure I have left the single digits to be honest...
    4) Roger. I have started to do that. Nord infantry and Vaegir archers right now. When I free prisoners from a defeated lord, I will often hire them and put them in my garrison in Jelkala.
    5) Jelkala helped with my money situation a lot. It makes enough taxes to cover my expenses, and the tariffs are basically just pure profit. My warband is up to 100 soldiers (thanks to those high-renown battles I was talking about, and the sheer amount of kills I got in those sieges = 2 levels of Charisma upgrades)

Thanks for all the help SkyChef! I will start another thread if I have anymore questions =D

    War, an endless cycle

I just got Marnid (or whatever his name is too), and yea, he is definitely going to be doing some non-combat duties for me. Mostly because he is entirely unwilling to come with me as I raid villages.

When you say 600 - 700 troops, I just want to clarify, you mean between you and your lords right? Not just you personally.... My army size (not even at Day 200 yet) is just 90.

With Diplomacy, when should I start being able to take a castle by myself? What are some good troops to have? Without a place to store my troops, I have to use all the ones that are in my warband. In Native, I had gotten a castle by now (seems harder to get your own castle in Diplomacy) and could store my siege units there (less cavalry, more archers and Nord Huskies) until I was ready for siege. Now I find myself having a very hard time winning any siege battles. Renown is just about 300 or so and no lords will follow me. Fighting for the Sultan, I have participated in every major battle besides the taking of Veluca and Halmar (both times I was off raiding) but never received a castle in return for my services. Frankly, the puny Jeriche village fief is not enough to sustain my army when it costs nearly 3k every week, and my other investments only typically bring in about 2.5k. Next time there is peace (as I build up my treasury a lot during war) I will expand my enterprises, but for now, I could really use a castle.

Speaking of enterprises, what are some good ones? Ironworks in Dhirim and Curaw have served me well, and I have a dye works in Praven that continually brings in between 300 and 500. A weavry in Shariz and a few ale-making buildings (can't remember the name) in two of the other Sarranid towns as well.

(Sorry for the thread hijack. And thanks for all the help SkyChef)

Tried declaring myself as king with 3 Right to Rule

Sometimes they ignore you, sometimes they completely come down against you.

I have found that if you pin yourself in a corner (Say, in Rhodok territory) then you will be less susceptible to them invading you. Similar to how you don't see many wars between the Sultanate and Vaegirs because of the distance.

Oddly, you do still seem to get attacked by the Nords at some point no matter where you are. They just love war.

    War, an endless cycle

So how in the heck are we supposed to actually build our own kingdom? Just wait out this year-long war?

I realize in real history a war only lasting a year wasn't a big thing - but in my current playthrough of Warband the wars between factions only seem to last a month or two, if that.
