  1. slings

slings could be reloaded, aimed and shot far quicker than any other missile weapon, plus huge amounts of ammunition can be carried. historically, slings werent used as much after the dark ages because they lacked any kind of penetrating power against armour, however they were devestating against relatively unarmoured warriors such as the celts.
In M&B a sling should be brilliant to use versus river pirates and other low level brigands, but near useless versus knights. I also think it should use the throwing skill as with stones.
  2. What's your best shot difficulty?

I got a 13.6 twice in a row, which was a couple of head shots with a bow against some swadian deserter crossbowmen on the other side of the map!
  3. 0.711 skirmishers

I use Borcha as a javelineer, and that boy can lob a spear, I tell you. He usually gets 3-4 kills with the javelins, another 2 or 3 in combat with his awlpike.
Marnid seems to level up far more often though... and he seems to find good high ground more often too.
  4. Bugs in 0.703

on the world map, the character gets stuck up against mountains, whereas in the previous versions they went round after doubling back.
  5. crossbow when horseback

there was a troop type which tried without much success to emulate the effectiveness of the mongols by mounting breast-plated light crossbowmen on horseback, but their lack of rate of fire compared to the steppe warriors made them all but outclassed in all respects.
  6. What's your best shot difficulty?

I got an 11.9 today, which is my personal best... and it was a half iamed shot that I assumed Id missed til the score came up! head shot, behind a hill, verrrrrrry long range = woot!
  7. Kilts

    that looks pretty cool actually!
  8. (0632) Squad AI - flaws

the first part of your post is about something annoying, which I have noticed too.

the last part is do-able by using the hold this position command instead of the charge command to get your troops to advance and then fire. all you need do is advance yourself, pressing 1 whenever you think it is a good idea, and your troops will advance and then stop where you want them too.
  9. One Handed Polearms and Jousting

(real history warning!!!) the sarmatian heavy mounted warriors of roman times used to use a lance held with both hands (and no shield) so it wouldnt be completely odd to be able to couch 2 handed polearms!
  10. Kilts

against any bastard mad enough to wear nothing but a kilt would do well to make sure all those arrows HIT because if they dont you could be seriously hurt by a nutter in a wooly skirt
  11. Old England?

how about we mix the two then? I would be willing to help out to build a mod of King Arthur etc... although we'd have to have a round table to discuss how realistic----|-----fantasy we want to make it. Id prefer to do a romano-british type of thing, then we would be able to go towards roamn, towards picts, british, saxons, etc as we want. More fantasy means keeping the look of the knights more or less the same as they are now in m&b, and changing the map to be more like the british isles.
  12. Sword textures

whihc part of the weapons1 picture is it? (rough directions please)

I want to be able to change them but cant until i figure out where the blades are
  13. Speed units

I only suggest that it could be kilometres per hour because the numbers work with that. you can move at around 6 km/h at a fast walk, a horse canters at about 10km/h
  14. Bow & Shield

Im surprised noone has made a claymore yet, or a hand and half sword, both of which were one handed swords heavy enough to also be considered two handers - it could bridge the gap between the two with 29-30 damage but be slow moving
  15. Old England?

    course I remember you!
maybe we can start that again on here >:B
  16. Bow & Shield

my prob with this is that bucklers were never designed to stop an arrow, just weapon blows. youve made a pretty powerful character by strapping a shield to your arm and still being able to use a bow
  17. Warhammer Mod

    I can see it now.
    Head Shot!
    Inflicted 459 Damage
    Difficulty of shot: 1.7
Borcha knocked unconscious by juve with stub pistol
  18. SP Antiquity Lost Legionnaire (a Total Conversion for Mount and Blade)

they were unbeatable when arranged in a phalanx with their flanks protected, against an enemy attacking from the front. their invincibility has been much overstated.
  19. Old England?

weltonia: that you are from the british isles really means that you should know better than to stir up english/scottish rivalries, more than anyone.
Of course they are different culturally, and of course we are all human, but you cannot make a comment that can be taken a number of ways, such as "scottish and english are the same" and then qualify it as a purely anthropological sentiment later, thats a load of crap and unfair to the other debaters. You are justified in having an opinion, even if 5 million scots would skin you for it, just be aware that obviously people in this forum other than yourself believe the differences to be significant and may I suggest that you abandon writing in English altogether and perhaps try writing in Gaelic for a while, to fully comprehend the level of similarity between the English and the Scots as the largest minority group in the British isles, with a distinct dialectual, ancestral and cultural difference from their southern neighbours.
In addition, I notice that in defending your apparent lack of age, you havent said what your actual age is, which suggests that while it may not be 15, it probably isnt far off.
  20. Speed units

Id say that it probably is kilometres an hour
