  1. SP Musket Era Modern Pirates mod! Released! V2.5 for 0.751 updated 18/4

    Hello folks,

    First off, this is an awesome mod - I absolutely love it, outstanding work.

    However, I am having trouble getting from land back to sea.  The first mate keeps telling me that I need a ship and so forth, and I have so far been unable to work out the correct process from the 'inspect ship' menu.

  2. SP Fantasy The Island - Shipwrecked - (Discontinued)

    When I try to play, I get the error: 'Unable to open file: CommonRes\textures.brf'.

    Do I need to move individual files into various areas in the main M&B collection?

    If someone could assist me in this, I would appreciate the help.

    - Arahan

    P.S.  In case anyone hasnt, check out the Onin no Ran mod project.

    Hello gang,

    I have begun a new thread where our team can continue development of the mod. Additionally, I have begun a feedback thread for non-team members, which should cut down on the random, "Hey, this mod rocks/sucks!" posts, and the various other digressions that took place in this thread.

    Visit the new master thread here: http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?p=27918#27918

    Hello gang,

    I am sorry to see you go Misuhide. I will do my best to see that this project stays its course, everyone has fun working on it in the meantime, and that the world knows about it when we are finished.

    First, I want to express my appreciation for the work everyone has contributed so far. It is rare in modern society to see a group of strangers come together to make something positive happen, especially without the promise of profit afterwards. I am sure the spirit of fellowship that has emerged will continue to grow and bear its fruit when this project is complete.

    Anyhow, I will begin a new thread to get this project off to a fresh start, hopefully, with renewed vigor. I will condense everything that has been established thus far and sumamrize what remains to be done so that everyone has a direction to head in.

    I have sent each team member a private message to confirm their continued interest in the project and to ask their consent to place them on one of various teams. Additionally, I have contacted others to ask if they would be willing to contribute. As time goes on, I will make an effort to recruit additional people, particularly in areas that need trusty pairs of hands.

    Everyone please respond as quickly as possible. I will begin the new thread sometime in the next day or two.

    Omega,

    You definitely have a future in the music production industry, wherever you may choose to go. The music samples you have provided are top notch, (Silent Intruder is fantastic); you will be a great asset to this mod team. Thanks again for your contribution.

    Hello gang,

    Just for everyones' information, I have received confirmation on two points concerning the mod tools:

    1. We will indeed be able to script a unique set of quests for each character class
    2. Replacing music will be simplified

    Hello gang,

    The poll I started one week ago for the purpose of determining a consensus opinion on the matter of including or excluding a ninja character class has run its course.

    The votes panned out as follows:

    Yes: 37
    No: 23
    Undecided: 4
    Total: 64

    Based on this information, I feel we should make an earnest attempt to include a ninja character class in such a way that it gels with both gameplay and historical accuracy.

    To Omega,

    I do not think having a music department occurred to anyone at the start, but, speaking on behalf of myself, you are a welcome addition to the team.

  8. M&B - Daimyo Wars Mod: Poll.

    Hello gang,

    Voting on this poll is concluded. Thus, there is no cause for anyone to contribute anything more.

    Hopefully Mordraneth and TomteOfDoom can resolve their differences and become friends, (such rivalries often work out that way).

    Thanks to everyone for their thoughts, and especially their votes.

    Omega,

    Great music. I, for one, am impressed. I happen to prefer Reluctant Hero, even if it is a little Napoleonic at the beginning. Japantown is repetitive and tedious, though the melody for the first thirty seconds was excellent.

    Hello gang,

    A few thoughts on Mitsuhide's ninja faction idea.

    Elsewhere in the forum it has been suggested that the conquering of towns can be implemented by creating two versions of each and assigning some manner of trigger so that one version will be superimposed over the other when it is taken by a clan by virtue of a quest, (such as defeating a number of parties in the area or what-have-you). Apparently, different NPCs can also be used in each version, and issues like what items are available there can be changed accordingly.

    Any village of ninjas would be exempt from this, which is to say, impossible to conquer. I also cast my vote against ninja war parties of any kind.

    I would suggest that the village be invisible to all character classes save a ninja class, (if it is included,) or to a party including a ninja NPC. Lest this be meaningless, the village should afford the player some special advantage, either the recruitment of special units, (which errs away from the side of historical accuracy,) the chance to buy specialized equipment, or even a unique arena to practice to add a little spice to the game. I favor the second and third of these possibilities.

    Curiousepic 说:
    Edit: wait, "add character classes" - do you mean change the 4 original character classes, or be able to add additional calsses past 4?

    Curiousepic,

    I mean additional classes, past four.

    I like your hot spring idea, though I would prefer it manifested in the form of a monk's cottage or the like. Depending on how the 'asking for news' bit works in the finished game, they might serve that function as well.

    Regarding character classes, I will wait until everyone has had a chance to add their thoughts and then I will compile a comprehensive list for the leadership to review.

    Thanks for your ideas, good stuff.

    Hello gang,

    Just for everyones' information, I have received confirmation on two points about the mod tools: we will be able to add character classes, and we will be able to add the various kinds of side-quests that have previously been discussed.

    Tomte, thank you for your suggestions. The reason I was making an effort to include a ronin class was because of general consensus on the matter earlier on in this discussion thread. We can easily eliminate it and split the difference between two classes as you describe: Bushi, (Ji-samurai is no longer an acceptible term of reference,) and some manner of bandit, which I prefer to call a warlord.

    Hello gang,

    I want to ask everyone to submit a final round of suggestions for character classes so I can get everyones' opinion and close the matter to further discussion. This way I have something to get started with in terms of working out the plots for each class, and the historians will have some specific targets to research in addition to the host of other topics they are concerned with.

    An idea I have been toying around with is a yakuza character class, which was earlier suggested and dismissed as a path that Ronin players could work out for themselves. Making it a separate character class would offer a more specialized range of beginning skills, different relationships with NPCs, and a customized selection of quests. Thoughts?

    It may also be that we are limited to four character classes for each gender. I may be concerned about this unnecessarily, but just in case, please name the four, for each gender, that you would most like to see. We especially need female gender-determinate classes, unless everyone is content to have a total of four and leave gender selection as a matter of arbitrary importance during char-gen.

    For my part:

    Male:
    * Ji-Samurai
    - Must choose to ally with one of the two clans from the start
    * Ronin samurai
    - Will be subject to attack from all NPC parties, but will have a starting advantage in equipment quality and other topics
    * Merchant
    - Will be on neutral terms with all NPC parties, possess the expected range of skills, a begin with a large coffer
    * Yamabushi
    - I see this archetype as a sort of wandering benefactor/con-man, as the player chooses to play his or her character. Flavor here owes to specialized quests

    Female:
    * Ji-Samurai, (suggestions for a specific term of reference?)
    * Ronin samurai, ("")
    * Princess
    - Specialized quests, emphasis on skills influenced by charisma, large coffer at the beginning
    * Geisha, (better term?)
    - If Mordraneth is correct, that geisha practiced in one manner or another for centuries prior to the Edo period, this should work. Again, flavor comes from specific quests, but honestly, I could live without this one.

    If additional character classes are possible, (I hazard to guess they probably are,) we might include:
    * Ninja, (an early analysis of the poll seems to indicate that folks are mostly in favor of this class - whatever form it takes - but honestly, I would just as soon leave them out)
    * Yakuza
    * Emissary, (male version of the geisha class described above)

    Suggestions are much desired. I ask everyone to honor a deadline of one week to submit their contribution on this topic. So, Monday of next week: 7-11.

  15. M&B - Daimyo Wars Mod: Poll.

    TomteOfDoom and Mordraneth,

    As much as I am pleased to see intelligent discussion taking place, please keep it civil. Agree or disagree about the fine minutiae, we all share the same interests, and therefore a fellowship.

    Anyhow, while the information you each have provided is interesting, it would be more helpful to the team working on this mod project if there was an explicit application to the game we are seeking to create.

    In this spirit, I will ask both of you to express your feelings on two matters:

    First, based on your expertise, do you consider it thematic for a character class, (which I will loosely call ninja, as I am yet uncertain as to which term of reference is appropriate,) to have a part in this game, on the basis of historical correctness? Keep in mind this mod is set at the beginning of the Sengoku Jidai.

    Second, if your answer to the prior question is yes, please provide a name that we can settle on, (if both ninja and shinobi are unacceptible,) and briefly describe the nature of that characterization. In other words, among the various permutations of ninjas in Japanese history, which do you think is most applicable to a game like M&B? The clearer this is, the easier it will be to encorporate this character class in the game.

    On another note, concerning Yamabushi, I was led to believe that they were 'warrior monks' of one sort or another. Is this erroneous? If so, what characterization better suits such an archetype?

    Finally, I will ask everyone, generally, to offer a final round of suggestions for character classes. I want to get everyone's opinion and close the matter to further discussion so that we have that aspect completed and I begin basic work on the other things that concern plot.

    An idea I have been toying around with is a yakuza character class, which was earlier suggested and dismissed as a path that a Ronin player could work out for themself. Making it a separate character class would offer a more specialized range of beginning skills, different relationships with NPCs, and a customized selection of quests. Thoughts?

    Thanks again for your input fellows, keep it coming.

  16. M&B - Daimyo Wars Mod: Poll.

    Hello Mordraneth,

    I do not necessarily question the validity of the information you provide, but I would like to see any sources you might have handy, just out of interest. Thanks for your contribution. Perhaps you would like to get involved with the mod project overall? We could always use another theme guru.

    Hello gang,

    I have begun a poll to gather a consensus on the shinobi issue from the general player base, (likely the first of many) so that Mitsuhide has concrete information on which to base any final decision, and so that disagreement does not contribute unnecessary bulk to this thread. Please take a moment to vote, team members most definitely should express their feeling. The poll will last for a period of seven days and can be accessed here:

    http://taleworlds.com/v-web/bulletin/bb/viewtopic.php?p=23359#23359

    Additionally, I briefly described our mod and linked it to this thread, so it may attract some interest from other players and build a little hype.

  18. M&B - Daimyo Wars Mod: Poll.

    As of 7-9, voting for this poll is concluded. Thanks to everyone for their contribution. Hello everyone, The purpose of this poll is to account for the opinions of the general player base in regards to the availability of a shinobi, (ninja), character archetype for Mount & Blade: Daimyo...

    Lhorkan,

    Are these throwing stars modern designs or reproductions of ancient metalwork? At face value, I would hazard to guess these are art pieces designed for a modern market. I would also hazard to say that some of the intricate detail would be lost when being used in the game.

    If I remember correctly from a documentary I watched once upon a time, ninja throwing weapons are given more emphasis in film than they aught to have, (as is the case with the nocturnal prowler costume,) but the ones that were used came in two basic forms: a simple iron needle, (in size and proportion like a short pencil,) and three or five-pointed stars, as per Henderson's contribution.

    Our theme gurus will soon edify and clarify.

    Hello gang,

    Regarding the throwing stars, I happen to like Henderson's better. I may be wrong, but they look more balanced and realistic than the others.

    Orion's link is an awesome resource as well. It is difficult to tell which styles of dress are most appropriate for the theme of our mod, in association with time periods, but definitely a source of inspiration for when work begins on dress for non-warriors.
