  1. competitions

I can't say I've ever seen the shield freeze; response times in blocking and attacking seem to be slower for the player than the AI with most things.  I prefer not to get shield and spear in competitions, naturally, and always swap if I can (pick up downed opponent's stuff), but with a little getting used to it is possible to win with just a spear and shield, and you can put the shield away and use the spear more like a staff.  To be honest, I find if I get mobbed, I might be a little more likely to get out of it with a sword than a spear, but either way I'm probabaly screwed.  In all, I prefer the competitions in Brytenwalda to the tournaments in Native, which are generally just screwy in their weapon combination choices.
  2. Unright's gang

It's usually in central Fortriu, west of Monid Crobh, East of Dun At.  The Lairs don't always show up, you might have to pass the area a few times.

I've also seen horn/standard bearers and I'm curious if anyone has any insight where to get those?  The hp/moral bonuses would be useful if it's possible.  Or maybe I'm just missing the particular unit types that have it?

I'm not sure if you can actually recruit them anywhere, I've only ever been able to get them by recruiting them when they were held prisoner by a party I've defeated.

Not terribly helpful, sorry. I'd like to know too if you can actually recruit them.
  4. Unright's gang

Medieval Scots unricht, from Old English unriht, means "wickedness, vice, wrong-doing", in Old English it was cognate for an outlaw, I think it's in Beowulf, but not sure.
  5. Unright's gang

Spear and Shield is ok against ONE opponent.  Get mobbed and you're dead.

The chase down caravan-attacking bandits quest - it can be most kinds of bandits from what I've seen - is tricky, but usually doable.  Very occasionally you'll see them almost immediately you leave town and head in the direction of whatever village was specified, but usually you just have to stop every party you see and ask if they've seen some bandits, eventually one will have and you race to wherever they tell you and hope they are still in the vacinity - if it's some distance then they've probably moved off and you have to start asking travellers again.  It can be frustrating, once I took a mission in Clochair and ended up tracking them down in East Anglia about 40 days later.

I'm just having a mess around with it atm.

Off topic - Any way to stop the script errors?

Edit - And if I want to buy land, but can't get a quest, how am I supposed to make the GM get to know me better?

After you have won a competition/tournament in that town, you get renown with that town and the Guild Master will sell you land.  Of course that means buffing yourself up a bit and chasing tournaments.

Nasty red scrolling script errors?  Not a clue.  I've tried just about everything I've seen recomended on the board, including a full reinstall of Warband and Brytenwalda.  Occasionally they'll just disappear by themselves and the propper messages will come for a minute or two, then I duck into a town or fight or whatnot, and next time I'm on the world map they're back.  If it wasn't so great a mod ... ah well.
  7. Two Questions: Tournament Prizes and Right-to-Rule

I was playing last night, started a new character just for the heck of it, and have reached the conclusion that:

    Competition prizes are completely random.

Two weeks in with a new character who had done bugger-all except work in villages and get himself beaten up in melee fights, I jumped into a competition I ran across by chance.  Got myself eliminated quick-smart.  So I went out to a nearby village to work for 24hours.  Next day went back to the town to sell the chicken or whatever I'd earned, and the competition was still going, so, what-the-heck, I'll have another go, somehow, through shear dumb luck, I managed to win.  Wolf Lorica turns up in my inventory, pity I can't wear it any time soon 'cause I'm only level 3.

So, it does not appear to have anything to do with renown, level, day of the competition, winning every round, or anything I can think of, it's random.

    Ah Well.

You need some renown before prizes will be available. Something between 100-200, iirc.
And you need to finish tournament undefeated in every round.
Still they are random and they does not always have prize even if you meet these conditions.

I can confirm that this is wrong; I got prices even when I didn´t stay undefeated. and I´m not sure about the renown issue either; I once got the wolf lorica in my first tournament shortly after startng the game.

The Wolf Lorica is undoubtedly the most valuable price; but I guess that the byzantine arrows are also usefull to those who play as archers (what I found little rewarding, because I never hit anything even when havein an archer profiency of 200).
The princep sword, a "sword fit for a prince", is simply ugly and not very usefull compared to other swords and especially to axes. And the greek horse is an absolutely awesome idea, but it is very usefull as it can´t break through enemy lines and is also slow. Besides that, it is ugly. Poor  Fury.

I don't think you have to remain undefeated, I believe that I have also had prizes when I was allowed to continue after a defeat.  The renown makes sense in my experience, but it may not be correct, prize-giving may be completely random.

Princeps Sword would be "Leader Sword".  Princeps was not used to mean "prince" until modern times, even in Medieval Latin it just means "first man", not "prince", even though we get "prince" from it, and in some situations English "prince" can be used in a similar way to the Latin princeps
The sword is reasonable among swords, but not as good as most balanced or tempered swords. I don't play with axes as a rule, so I can't compare.  The Greek horse isn't that great, its few extra hit-points don't make up for its lack of speed, but you can give it to a mate or sell it.  I was thinking at one point that it would be nice to have a stabling option in your Lair or castle.  The Wolf Lorica is nice.  Tournament prizes are more about the imersion than the usefulness, in my opinion.  There is a certain swagger to going about in armour on a horse you won in a competition when you're role-playing.

Renown would probably explain it, I wasn't doing many tournaments until somewhat later in most other games, while I started competing right from the beginning with this character.
  10. Two Questions: Tournament Prizes and Right-to-Rule

Hey First, this mod is superb, brilliant job, I'm loving playing it. Second, two questions: 1) Are tournament prizes just random, or is there some criteria to enable you to get them or make it more likely that you will get them?  I've had one game where I got a prize every time I won a...

Now about double icons. That's not a bug. It shows how big is the army. Don't know exact numbers, but my guess is:
less than ~120 - one icon,
    ~ 100- ~250 two icons,
faction leader with huge armies has three icons (not neccesary faction leaders, any lord with huge army)

    That is clever.  Thanks.

Bug - I couldn't see this in the thread or on a quick search of the topic - (I'll do my best to describe it): After fighting mountain bandits, if they had prisoners that are willing to join your party, and you've knocked some bandits unconcious, so you can take them prisoner.  In the recruit section there would be the same number of mountain bandits as you had knocked unconcious.  They would also be in the take captive section below.  If you choose to recruit these, they show up in your party and fight for you.  It only happened with mountain bandits.
I thought it`s not a bug.  Sometimes (very rare) some of those whom you had knocked down in battle decides to become a part of your army. I had this "bug" not only with mountain bandits, but also with Polska troops. Hmmm. Maybe it is a "bug".

Ok, I'll clarify that.  They show up in both the recruit and take captive, and you can do both at the same time - which means there is essentially two of the same person.  I don't mind being able to recruit them, but it needs to be one or the other.  My guess is it's a bug.  I haven't fought any Poles yet.

I think I saw this when I was checking through the thread, but I'm not sure - sometimes parties that are lead by a lord have two icons on the world map.  As if the lord had one and the party has another.  But it doesn't happen with every party lead by a lord.  I ahven't noticed if there is any pattern, it does seem to cross factions though.

Firstly, I'd jsut like to say that this has the potential to be my ultimate mod, obviously it has some ways to go, especially in the detail, but hey, it's already great, and I'm willing to wait a bit.

Just so you can keep track of things you're already aware of:
I also had the problem of the M&B launcher crashing because of a missing .dll - downloaded it and it all works fine.
Same troubles with crashing if going into a battleground of a battle I didn't participate in - I've only tried to loot, not to bury the dead yet.  (Simple solution for now, don't go in, or save before hand if I feel like trying)
I'm not sure if this has been noted, but some of the re-textured native clothes (shirt, coarse tunic) in scene, are native textured at a distance and change to the re-texture when you get closer. It can be a bit disconcerting.  It could have something to do with my graphics, they're pretty good, but only laptop good.

    Again, this is just brilliant.

  14. making a new scene enterable

I haven't done any modding for a good long time, not since before the fief system was implemented and Zendar removed.  I'm putting in a custom OUTDOOR scene (i.e. town/village/castle exterior) using a really old tutorial I used to use, and everything works fine up until entry.  The location...
  15. Max Army Size and Morale - Easy to change in scripts.txt

    Just a quick note
    a) thanks, this is great, the morale was really bugging me, and
    b) it's still bugging me because I can't get it to work.

1.003, I'm sure I followed all the instructions right, the party-size limit altered, but not the morale.  So I can have xxxx soldiers but am getting deducted for all of them.  I'm pretty sure though that I got the heroes bit right and am not getting a penalty for them.

I'm going to paste back in my back-up and try editing it again, because I'm fairly certain it's something to do with me, it usually is, I just thought I'd bring it up, on the off chance anyone else was having a similar problem.

  17. Your own storage in the castles

I might just put my voice in for stabling in castles, I'd like somewhere to dump those pretty ponies I don't feel like selling but don't want clogging up my personal inventory all the time.  And perhaps added storage, maybe as an improvement to your castle the length of the chest inventory could be doubled or the like.  Another thing would be having a smaller storage space in villages, either when you build a manor or as a separate improvement.  Personally, I'm a bit of a collector, I like to keep the fancy weapons/armour/clothes/horses, even if I don't really intend on using them; it always seeps painful selling that tempered nordic sword, even if I usually use a nomad sabre or a bastard sword, so I'm always strapped for inventory space.

I agree that it can be annoying and rather jarring on the immersion not to have improvements like mills and manors appear in villages, but with the way the scenes are put together it would be a lot of work; this is also why having your equipment appear actually in the scene in castles is unfeasable, as far as I understand it.
  18. 34 pack - hireable npcs (companions).

Grand, been looking for some more companions, am downloading this as I type.

I like that you've got them all level 1, I like to build my own.

Will give it a try this evening.

And what's the problem with Marnid?  I usually think of Marnid as my Lieutenant.  Sure, you've got to give him some decent armour and a horse, but build his stats up right, lots of ironskin, powerstrike and a few in shield, and he's soon lasting out most fights and making a few kills.  I also build him up in engineering, as I don't use Artimmer - he's too argumentative and always scampers at first opportunity, so I just use Marnid instead.  In one game he's about level 14 and I kept running out of his usual skill spots, so gave him a few in wound management and first aid so when Jeremus and Ymira both got their brains squished in a battle they weren't meant to be in, I had someone to help the lads heal up.

Just my two cents worth in defence of my favourite companion

While i know some people like to do stuff on paper, i think you'll find it bloody hard, as you'd need at least an A3 sized bit to fit it all there with enough detail to be useful: the map is much more cluttered and a lot bigger these days.

Chopping into bits with photoshop, this I should be able to do.  It is much more detailed now, I must admit.  I really am a paper-person, I like to check things and make notes, plot routes, plan strategies, it makes it more enjoyable for me.  Thanks to everyone, especially Ori, for the help.
