  1. M&B: Realism

It's clearly there, although I haven't seen any Bardiche info suggest it was in existence before the 15th Century I think so I wouldn't know what to call it.

The Bardiche/Sparth Axe/Gisarmes/Giserne is described in Robert Wace's Roman de Rou (c. 1155), and also Illustrated in Sir Gwain and the Green Knight, Apocalypse and Bestiary, also circa the same period.

Cool. I hadn't actually looked at the Mac. Bible recently... I know next to nothing about bardiches. Now I know slightly more  They're still not the same as a Danish axe, though

Also, from looking at other Mac. Bible images it would seem that most of the axes have sharper points and higher curvature than the Danish axe or any of the native M&B axes. They should probably have a piercing-damage thrust ability in game.

Well, I was trying to answer the question of period Bardiches.

If the question is if the Danish axes were around, they most certainly were.  The Chroniques des ducs de Normadie (1190) mentions Norman troops armed with danish axes.  thats the oldest reference I could find on short notice.

As for other types of pole arms, most common usage were still farm implements, bills, scythes, mauls, etc. carried by peasant levies.  It wasn't till a few centuries later that militarized varieties started showing up (assuming were talking 13th century time frame).  Pole axes were starting to see some use in the later years, but halberds won't be seen for a while.

*EDIT* Glaives were in use as military polearms.

I remember someone saying that the Bardiche looks like it could be a Danish Great Axe and would fit into the era, so I'll see if I can get that in.

This is a Danish Great Axe:

I remember someone saying (on an arms and armour forum) that bardiches may have evolved out of the Danish Great/War Axe, but that would probably have been later than the 13th C.
13th C. axes would be somewhat more advanced (mostly in cross section) than the Danish axe, I think, but look basically similar. Especially as game models.

I'd love someone to give me some accurate information on what polearms (and other weapons fit into the era), as the information I've come across has been conflicting, or not specific enough about the weapon's development timeline.

As far as I can tell, no one has accurate information on what polearms fit into the era.
Personally, I would go with simple glaives, maybe halberds. Very simple bills of the agricultural type for the peasants would give them a good variety instead of lots and lots of pitchforks.

Edit: The Maciejowski Bible is probably the best source available: http://www.keesn.nl/mac/mac_en.htm

  4. Editing the in-game wiki?

I was wondering is there any way to edit or get access to the information in the in-game wiki (the one that tells you what villages belong to who, etc.)?
  5. Graphical Enhancement 2.5, version 3 is in Pioneer's Guild.

The new images show the HDR as really overblown.  Is that intentional?  Or are there plans for some more HDR tweaks?  The HDR in your sig look beautiful, but it seems to be on a completely different setting than the rescent screenies.

I'm getting a weird issue with vegetation becoming lighter the father away it is.  Vegetation I'm standing next to is nice a nd dark, but it gets progresivly lighter untill it becomes almost "Day-glo".  Any sujestions on how to fix this?

  7. Question: Light leather armour

    Zathan 说:
    Hi,

for something a little more challenging, i have run a low encumberance character, and found that light leather armour would be the way to go. I have found
reinforced light leather armour (weighs 5.0, armour +17 body / +7 legs), hardened leather gloves (not light leather, as they dont seem to exist, anyways, weighs 0.3, +5 to body armour) and thick light leather boots (not to be confused with plain leather boots, they give +11 to leg armour, coincidentally the same amount provided by hardened leather boots...). Reinforced helmet with neckguard (weighs 1.5, +20 head protection) sums it up.

Anyways, question is, has anyone found a pair of reinforced/hardened light leather boots? I've searched for them time and time again, they dont seem to be in the game. Following the M&B methodics I assume they should provide +12 to leg protection.

    Thanks,

    Zathan

All gloves/gauntlets are 0.3 in weight.  There is really no reason. other than looks, to wear anything but Reinforced Iron Gauntlets for the +8.  Also, you might want to consider the Reinforced Chainmail Coif, while at +18 instead of +20, is .5 weight lighter.

Right, this isn't actually an announcement for this mod at all, but I'm hoping some good skinners see this.  There is a very promising aSoIaF mod for Medieval2:Total War over at TotalWarCenter, if you want practice skinning, they're always looking for help.  Please?

    Gotta link to that mod?
  9. v 0.807 bugs and issues

    Mount & Acid?
  10. .806 bugs and issues

By the way, you can not change the auto detected values unless you upgrade your graphics card. The autodetection system looks at your card's memory size. If you have complaints about this, post them here or on a different topic.

I would also like to add, I specifically rolled back to .805 because of this.  Seriously, this needs to go.

So I got to ask, what is the upside to the unmodifiable graphics settings?  Every system is different, why not let people set the game how they want?  I have a fairly low end card (6800 128mb), but I've got a ton of hacks and overclocks that allow me to get a lot more performance out it.  Now I can't take advantage of that.  What if people wish  to turn down textures for more anti-ailiasing, or visa versa?  Tastes vary.  What if a player wishes to turn of some features for MORE performance than the auto-detect thinks he should have?  Some people are happy with 20 FPS, others arn't happy until 60.  Let us get the game looking best to us, with performance that suits our needs.

Thats strange, my environmental shadows option is tied to my programmable shaders.  And since Ev-Shadows crash my game, I can't get watter or other shaders.

Same for me. Just out of curiosity, what is your system? Another person who was having this problem had the same graphics card as me...a nvidia 6600. might be something with the settings on the card, though environmental shadows seems bugged all around anyway.

    I'm running a GEFORCE 6800 GT 128 MB, AMD 64 4200+ X2, 2 gig ram.

  14. Environment Shadows .805

Its linked to the DX9 shaders option.  Turn off shaders and the option will un-ghost.
  15. is there going to be a fix for environmental shadows?

I have the bug, and I am running a 6800 GT, which is shaders 3 compliant.  I have tried both the current, and beta drivers with the same results.

Still have the render texture error.  Just as icing ont he cake, none of the buttons in the option menus function anymore, so I can't turn off environmental shadows, and can't play the game.

Try playing the game at your desktop resolution and see if you still can't change those options. This fixed it for me.

No go.  Button highlights on rollover, I hear the click sound play when I hit the button, but it will not change to "disabled".
