It has been a while since I modded, but couldn't you just take the normal food script and subtract a number of men equal to the troops possessing 'Tomb Lord' as a race? I'm not sure how races work but you could always create a troop slot for doesn't eat.

You're not giving Jesus enough credit here. If you'll read the stories of him you'll see he had a passion for metaphors, analogies, and symbolism in general. He is describing the situation in a way which shows that there can be no middle ground.

And your use of accents commonly associated with black people to make Jesus sound unintelligent has been noted with extreme distaste.

I was thinking of a hick actually. Strange how you would assume it was an African-American accent. Neither was it an attack on a person but rather it was an attack on your argument as I found it ludicrous.

I did not ignore it; I edited in my response to that a moment later, but you jumped on it a bit too eagerly it seems.

Like I said, the families back then (and today if you look closely enough) are horribly screwed up, and finding out you both had the same king as an ancestor wouldn't be the weirdest thing in that marriage, so I'm not impressed.

    Sorry, I wasn't expecting a ninja edit.

Besides, before that I just got done checking the wording and both specifically mention a male lineage. Luke starts with Jesus and works backwards using "The Son of" while Matthew works forwards from Abraham using "the father of". In both Joseph is specifically mentioned as the tie to earlier ancestors.

I'll have to deal with the other stuff at a later time.
  3. Create your own religion

    Asylumer 说:
How about the bit from Matthew I quoted earlier in this thread where Jesus (as speaker) said that he came to fulfill the Old Testament, that thing modern Christians try to pretend went away with John's idea of a sacrificial lamb, and that Christians should be MORE DEVOTE than even the most religious Jews.
Except when Jesus says he is here to fulfill the Old Testament law, we do not perceive that as saying we should follow it. You see, the comparison made is that Jesus is like the High Priest as well as the Sacrifice; on the Day of Atonement the High Priest would ask for forgiveness for his people, and make sacrifices. But since Jesus was the perfect man since he was also God and all, he was able to offer himself up as the sacrifice; a perfect offering which would require no repetition.

I see that I must post the entire thing again.

Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have not come to abolish but to fulfill. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter, not one stroke of a letter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished. Therefore whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the Kingdom of heaven. - Matthew's Jesus

You don't perceive that as saying you should follow it? Really?

How about this small slip about who is against Jesus:

Matthew 12:30 -- "Whoever is not with me is against me."
    vs
Mark 9:40 -- "Whoever is not against us is for us."

    Can't be both.
Uh, yes, it can. He's basically saying "Pick a side, you can't be neutral here", because anyone not for Christ is against him, and therefore if you are not against him you must be for him. It's basically saying that everything's black and white as far as this situation goes.

...So "If you're not with me, you're against me", and "If you aren't against us, you're for us", makes perfect sense to you?

So basically Jesus was like, "Hey y'all, if you aren't against me you're cool, but if you're not with me you suck OH WAIT you're already with me cuz of that other thing I said so s'all good!"

How about Jesus's lineage? Despite insistence that Jesus was born of a virgin, the accounts of Matthew and Luke somehow attempt to trace his lineage through Joseph to King David.
    Matthew's lineage -- Joseph -> Jacob -> Matthan -> Eleazar -> Eliud -> ... -> King David
    vs
    Luke's lineage -- Joseph -> Heli -> Mathat -> Levi -> Melchi -> ... -> King David

Some Christian apologists have tried to explain it away as Luke describing Mary's lineage despite Luke explicitly saying that the family line is that of Joseph. So that explanation doesn't exactly work.
As the adopted son of Joseph, Jesus would still be recognized as the proper heir to his family... by the law. (Pun totally intended)

Matthew 1:16 (King James) "And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ."

Strange considering that Matthew also supposedly believed in the virgin birth, no? He certainly thought it a big deal that Jesus was related by blood to King David.

And what about the disparity between lineages? I notice that you ignored that bit entirely.

How about another conflict between Matthew and Luke? The Birth of Jesus.

    In Matthew 1:18-2:23 --

Mary and Joseph are to be married, Mary is found pregnant, Joseph suspects the worst and plans to divorce Mary, but he is told in a dream that Mary has conceived by the Holy Spirit. They get married, Jesus is born, Wise men come from the east following a star which leads them to Jerusalem. They ask around about where the King of the Jews will be born which prompts Herod to look into the matter and he learns about a prophecy where the King of the Jews will be born in Bethlehem. Herod sends his troops to kill every male child two years and younger even close to the village. However, Joseph and Mary flee to Egypt ahead of the slaughter. They remain there until they hear of Herod's death, but then discover that Archelaus, son of Herod, is now ruler of Judea so they instead go to Nazareth where Jesus is raised.

Summary: Family origins were in Bethlehem, Herod kills babies in fear of a prophecy*, sojourn to Egypt.

*Jewish Prophecy was Matthew's thing. In fact, the Book of Matthew is very similar to the writings of a Jewish sect called the Ebionites who believed Jesus was the Messiah but not divine.

    In Luke 1:4-2:40 --

Mary is forewarned in length about the conception. The Roman Emperor Augustus holds an empire-wide census that somehow requires everyone to return to their ancestral home... a census which we have no record of and would be asinine to pursue. Since Joseph is descended from King David he must return to Bethlehem along with his espoused wife Mary. While in Bethlehem Mary gives birth to Jesus. Shepherds, not distant wisemen, are told by an angelic host that the Messiah has been born in Bethlehem so they go to worship him at the inn. They engage in some Jewish rituals and go back home to Nazareth.

Summary: Family origins in Nazareth, travel to Bethlehem for a census, go back home. No Herod. No Egypt. Nada
What? That's it? Where's the contradiction? It's focusing on different aspects. The story still has its same basic framework. You must remember that each author had a different message to portray. Matthew, writing to the Jews if I recall, would want to point out how fervently the characters followed God's law, such as Joseph wanting to divorce Mary until ordered not to. And the whole Egypt allegory would be a good way to relate Jesus to the Jews as a whole, but not really important from a historical standpoint.

What the hell do you mean there was no contradiction. Matthew has Bethlehem as the hometown from which Jesus is forced to flee into Egypt and then Nazareth. Luke says Joseph was forced to travel there from Nazareth after some stupid census, and waits around for at least 8 days to get Jesus circumcised before performing a ceremony that takes place 33 days after the birth of the child.

And you think these two accounts are reconcilable?

These are just a few of the examples I pulled from Bart Ehrman's "Jesus, Interrupted." None of this is a surprise to anybody who bothers to read the Bible critically.
It's surprising how confusingly easy that was.

I'll chalk your experience to Dunning-Kruger's effect since you failed miserably. You can't leave blanks on the test and be a winner.

The gospels should be allowed as evidence for christs existance.  There is no reason it shouldn't be.  If we judged sources false simply because there were supernatural events in them, by all rights half of the historians in history wrote false sources.  And these would include people like Livy and Plutarch and most medieval historians.

It's more the being written decades after he supposedly died and the contradictions between writers that make the gospels unreliable accounts. There are certain methods that attempt to determine what is historical about a prophet named Jesus but as a whole the Gospels that made it into the modern Bible are notoriously untrustworthy sources.

At best Jesus as a person can be considered kinda probably real by serious scholars.

At least I learned to never go on expeditions without way more Control than you think you need because if one guy decides to log-in at the last minute you're pretty screwed. 8. Are hero lancers any good?

I haven't played in a long time but I used to run around with my 'Valkries', a team of heavily armored lancer women who would brutalize small armies with a little micro management help and if I split up the enemy's group. Unfortunately when they got stuck they didn't typically last long.
  9. Back after a lot of months - is the soldiers rebalanced after the last patches?

I've also been gone (for 6 months) and found this in the patch notes:

    August Gameplay:

        * Mahdaar Castle map has been slightly redesigned for better play.
        * Warhorse & Charger stats have been balanced.
        * Camp Followers and Sword Sisters now get Power strike skill.
        * Swadian and Rhodok troops have been rebalance.

    July's changes:

Bow accuracy has been rebalanced, higher tier bows are even better, with low tiers being slightly more inaccurate.
Economy balance is somewhat tied to campaign difficulty setting.
          Minor Khergit troop stat changes.
Knock down chances have been reduced.

  12. Create your own religion

    Here's an idea...

There's this eternal multi-verse that is beyond time and space and it operates according to a few simple rules that were inherent to it. From those simple rules complexity arose and new universes were constantly created by its infinite potential. Within those universes stars were born and what could be called life arose on clumps of material that possessed certain chemical properties. These early lifeforms changed over great lengths of time until they gained the ability to store experiences and manipulate them with something called imagination. Just a relatively short time after that they began arguing amongst themselves on Internet forums about whose imagination was the most correct.

    Believable or not?

The Mill: this offers a one off, single time, one time only, once in a lifetime (not repeating... get that? Many people keep asking) bonus of 5% to a village's prosperity, and hence tax. Don't do this in villages you can't protect, because the benefit is effectively lost when it's looted back to very poor.

This is a common misconception. The Mill improvement bonus is done immediately upon being built but it also is referenced every time a center checks its ideal prosperity. The ideal prosperity is the prosperity value the village will naturally drift towards.

    See here:

    (call_script, "script_center_get_goods_availability", ":center_no"),
    (store_mul, ":hardship_index", reg0, 2), #currently x2

          (val_add, ":ideal", 5),
        (try_end),

NOTE: has_fish_pond is the Mill improvement

Every 24 hours the current prosperity will drift 1 point towards the ideal, and the +5 for having a mill is counted every time.
  15. Economic model from guild 2 + M&B war model (Dream Mod)

That's a lot to want and it would take a lot of effort to make.

Right now, I'm working on a very primitive enterprise system of my own and it has been a lot of work just to get what I have. Even something as simple as storing the amount of goods in a center and sending goods between specified cities in the form of caravan parties take a lot of scripting to get working properly.

However, I feel the effort I've been putting into this project has been worth it. Across the world becomes closer every time you take a step forward. The best way to make your ideas a reality is by learning the module system and implementing them yourself.
  16. Multiple Parties?

I dunno, but it may be possible to take over an NPC whenever they encounter enemy parties. Like, instead of engaging in auto-combat, you load a special mission template where you're in control of the Companion instead of your player troop (with a confirmation screen in-case you don't want to be dragged into random combat).

I'm not sure if that will work or not though.

    Asylumer 说:
So from what I gather, even a player with the worst sort of romantic chemistry penalty could still seduce their target if their charisma was high enough. You only* need 48 to get out of the negatives.

Well, from what I saw from the code you need a romantic chemistry of at least 5 or you are disqualified. So your charisma would have to be 51 not 48 to seduce them all.

    51 - 48 = 3*2 = 6

That's why I said you need 48 to get out of the negatives, not that you could seduce all men at 48 charisma.
  18. The female thread

Briefly looking into it, it seems that you can increase the romantic chemistry value by having a higher charisma.
Here is the script that the "evaluate female PC" script calls:

    (call_script, "script_troop_get_romantic_chemistry_with_troop", ":npc", "trp_player"),

So in the below script, ":source_lady" actually holds the NPC lord while ":target_lord" holds the player's troop ID.

("troop_get_romantic_chemistry_with_troop", #source is lady, target is man
        [
          (store_script_param, ":source_lady", 1),
          (store_script_param, ":target_lord", 2),

          (store_add, ":chemistry_sum", ":source_lady", ":target_lord"),
          (val_add, ":chemistry_sum", "$romantic_attraction_seed"),

          #This calculates (modula ^ 2) * 3
          (store_mod, ":chemistry_remainder", ":chemistry_sum", 5),
          (val_mul, ":chemistry_remainder", ":chemistry_remainder"), #0, 1, 4, 9, 16
          (val_mul, ":chemistry_remainder", 3), #0, 3, 12, 27, 48

          (store_attribute_level, ":romantic_chemistry", ":target_lord", ca_charisma),
          (val_sub, ":romantic_chemistry", ":chemistry_remainder"),

          (val_mul, ":romantic_chemistry", 2),
          (assign, reg0, ":romantic_chemistry"),

          #examples :
          #For a charisma of 18, yields (18 - 0) * 2 = 36, (18 - 3) * 2 = 30, (18 - 12) * 2 = 12, (18 - 27) * 2 = -18, (18 - 4:cool: * 2 = -60
          #For a charisma of 10, yields (10 - 0) * 2 = 20, (10 - 3) * 2 = 14, (10 - 12) * 2 = -4, (10 - 27) * 2 = -34, (10 - 4:cool: * 2 = -76
          #For a charisma of 7, yields  (7 - 0) * 2 = 14,  (7 - 3) * 2 = 8,  (7 - 12) * 2 = -10, (7 - 27) * 2 = -40,  (7 - 4:cool: * 2 = -82

#15 is high attraction, 0 is moderate attraction, -76 is lowest attraction
    ]),

The first part of the script randomizes a penalty value that is subtracted from your charisma score. The resulting sum is then multiplied by two. As the commented examples from the scripter show, the modulus operation and subsequent multiplication allows a penalty of either 0, 3, 12, 27, or 48 which will be applied to your charisma score.

I'm assuming that the global variable of "$romantic_attraction_seed" remains static throughout the game. This number, when combined with the Lord and Lady's ID number, produces a semi-random value which should remain constant.

This means lords will come in sets of 5 based on ID, where each iteration has at least one of the following:
    (Player Charisma - 0) * 2 = Romantic Chemistry
    (Player Charisma - 3) * 2 = Romantic Chemistry
    (Player Charisma - 12) * 2 = Romantic Chemistry
    (Player Charisma - 27) * 2 = Romantic Chemistry
    (Player Charisma - 4:cool: * 2 = Romantic Chemistry

So from what I gather, even a player with the worst sort of romantic chemistry penalty could still seduce their target if their charisma was high enough. You only* need 48 to get out of the negatives.

But here's the thing: It won't. Because your game idea actually sucks.

That's the bad news. The good news is everyone's game ideas suck, so you're not alone.

Yep, that's pretty much what she said.

Of course her argument goes into why your game idea "sucks" and deals with expectations for getting other people to do your dirty work instead of saying your idea sucks on its own merits, so it's not exactly used in the same way people think when they hear something sucks. Her argument was that the very notion of your idea's value was wrong, since an idea itself is worth very little if it can't make it to reality.
