Order of Choice: Knights of the Ebony Gauntlet
Name of Person: Savan, The Aegis
What is your story of how you came to be with an order: (reminder; gettting into an order takes years, so make your story fit): Savan was born in a small fishing village in the Fierdsvain teritories before the unification of Pendor. He was the son of a simple fisherman, but his father yearned for him to be something more, arranging for him to serve a minor noble from a nearby castle as a squire. This was shortlived, however, when bandits attacked and razed the village. In a last ditch effort to save the children, they were loaded onto the fishing boats with a few of the towns militia and were sent off to Mettenheim. Several of the boats were sunk by the barrage of fire arrows let off in the bandits rage, Savan was not on one of them.
In Mettenheim the children were given jobs with the local smiths and taught to forge their own steel in the Mettenheim fashion, making it strong but also light enough to allow for mobility. The children from the village would practice swordplay with the noble children and other soldiers-to-be in their spare time, and Savan showed a particular talent with swordplay. His fighting style was unique, using everything he could as a weapon, most notibly his shield. He incorporated the shield into flurries of attacks using the sword, and most opponents would crumble under the continous onslaught.
At the age of 13 he was deemed old enough to start training for a knighthood. He had already shown prowess in practice fights and the Mettenheim nobles saw promise, and trained the boy. His fighting style, however, was not deemed honourable and his training under knights and nobles did not last long. He instead chose to become a sellsword, moving from town to town throughout Mettenheim and taking whatever jobs he could. He was not too picky about the morality of the jobs he took, but he had a strict rule against attacking children or innocent farmers and the like simply trying to get by. He would only fight those who could protect themselves.
He soon had gathered enough money fighting bandits and brigands that he could afford to hire a few mercenaries of his own, and he formed a small band of sellswords. With the larger group they were able to take on bigger and riskier jobs, increasing the flow of coin. After a particularly large job involving the assassination of an incarcerated lord from Barclay, Savan could afford to have some gear made especially for him. He put aside the looted assortment of arms and had a specially balanced hand and a half sword made for him, out of ebony, as well as a greatshield adorned with a spike to compliment the fighting style that Savan had developed over his years as a sellsword.
On his 18th birthday, he clambered onto one of the trade ships that travel between Pendor and Mettenheim, seeking to return to his home village. Upon arriving he found ruins, he searched for any nearby people to ask about the village, and the first he found was a small group of brigands. He approached them, and asked what had happened to his home. He was told that without the milita to fight off the constant raids, the village crumbled into obscurity and was not longer able to support the repairs and continued agriculture. Those who survived the raids moved to other villages or found work elsewhere, others were not so lucky. The brigands humoured him this far, but became impatient and declared that he would give them everything he had or his life. He chose to give them steel, fighting them off using his unique style of fighting. They already had their weapons drawn, but were not expecting an attack so vicious or ferocious, and they had never before seen a shield used as an offensive tool, rather than a defensive one, and they quickly crumbled under the might of his unrelenting assault. He stole a crossbow from the first he killed, and squeezed a shot into the back of a brigand that had realised that they were in over their heads. Stood amongst the corpses of the small group, he was found by a company of knights of the Ebony Gauntlet. They treated him with caution, but were intrigued all the same. He asked who they were, and where they stood. He liked what he heard, The Ebony Gauntlet, defenders of humanity and the common folk, even if he had never seen or heard of a Noldor before, he decided to join up. Savan used his knowledge of Mettenheim smithing to create a black Morion helmet so that his face was visible, and donned a suit of ebony scalemail with a black and white surcoat. He is currently only a retainer, however, as he has yet to take the trial to officially become a knight.
