  1. WB 3D Art Warband, how complex can a weapon model be?

You can design your item however you want. The less people are using it within a battle, the more faces you can add to it. 22k faces are however a bit overkill. It can still work in-game but will probably reduce the fps (or simply crash the game).
Yeah, I was going to replace one of the preexisting swords with it, but because the design involves a bunch of circular shapes, I don't think I would be able to knock it all the way down into the 100s. I'll probably just keep it as a unique weapon for myself. After some merging and decimating I got it down to 3k and I can get it to under 2k by replacing some parts with simplified versions if needed. So I think I should be able to make it.

One way or another this is great practice and the other 3 items I have planned should be much more reasonable. Thank you for the help.

Go to The Forge (M&B engine titles' modding section) and read the pinned threads in there (especially the one whose title invites newcomers to modding).
Thank you so much! I'll go through them.
  3. WB 3D Art Warband, how complex can a weapon model be?

This here is an old listing of Highelf, one of the first modellers. It serves as orientation how many faces the meshes should have which get used en masse (so many people wearing a helmet at the same time for example). Unique items can go more up but shouldn't exceed it by more than 250%
    • Normal helmet : ~500
    • Full faced helmet : ~800/1000
    • Body armor : ~1000
    • Sword : ~250
    • Special/Detailed sword : ~400
    • Small axe : ~300
    • Two handed axe : ~400
    • Two bladed axe : ~500
    • Lance : ~150/250
    • Spear : ~200/300
    • Shield : ~400/500
    • Bow : ~100/200
    • Crossbow : ~300/400
    • Interior scene : ~1000
    • Detailed scenery : <2000
    • Medium scenery : ~700/800
    • Small scenery : ~250
    • Tiny scenery : ~100/200
Keep in mind that this is a list from 2006 and the game engine has improved a bit since then. It still serves well as a first orientation. You can also orientate on Native meshes which are similar to the ones which you want to create.
Thank you. I just checked my sword's face count. It's over 22 000....... and it's not even done yet... well then... This will take some doing.-.-' Can you even have a sphere on your items? Wouldn't that take up the majority of faces?
  4. WB 3D Art Warband, how complex can a weapon model be?

Hi guys, I'm a complete newcomer when it comes to modding. I really just want to add a few weapons to one of the existing mods. The 3d model for the first one is almost done, but I don't want to overdo it. So my question is, how complex can a Warband weapon model get before it becomes too much...
