  1. How do I stop looting a village to flee?

In order for a change like that to be balanced they'd have to vastly reduce the rewards for looting.
  2. !!!Female Character!!!??!

You don't get renown any faster that I know of.

The main difference I believe is how marriage works. More importantly, male characters have to pay a pretty substantial dowry (last one I did was 19K) which I don't think female characters have to deal with.

Compared to male characters, they get +1 INT and +1 AGI, -1 STR and -1 CHA.
  3. Questionable balancing

Once again...It has been like this since the original M&B beta, back when multiplayer was just a pipe dream in the minds of players.
  4. Questionable balancing

Ever since the very beginnings of the M&B beta, couched lances were blockable and parryable. This has always been so.

It was just a big misconception in the community...partly fueled by the fact that enemies don't specifically try to block couched lances, partly fueled by misleading ingame text...that has been alive since the early beta.

That said, I agree it should be changed.
  5. When I shoot at shielded opponent.

It's possible to get by the shields depending on the size of the shield and the shield skill of the opponent. Even high-level opponents can often be hit this way if they have a small shield. My character is an archer and does this all the time. It's also possible to just hold the crossbow and wait for them to drop the shield to take the swing. The downside of this is that if you miss, they get a free hit.

The purpose of this mechanic is to represent peoples' reflexes and moving the shield to block an arrow. It just looks weird because actually showing the shield mechanically moving to block the arrow would be really, really hard.
  6. tundra or taiga bandits?

Very weird, given that tundra and taiga are two completely different things.

I'm going to go ahead and guess taiga bandits is correct, just because it would make little sense for tundra to actually exist so close to temperate forests.
  7. Greetings all from a newb Warband fanatic

I heard Bethesda was dumbing down everything for the console crowd

Yes, damn those dirty console-gaming peasants. Obviously M&B combat is too deep for their small minds.

Glory to the PC Gaming Master Race.

If you take a proactive role (and are at a level/wealth able to raise a few armies quickly), of course it is possible. Just up to you as to whether you want to or not.

Not at the point I can solo warbands, and there's no way I can take back cities without help from other lords.
  9. -- Official Unofficial 'Ask Questions About Warband Singleplayer Here' Thread --

So, the Rhodoks in my campaign (who I am a vassal of) are getting their asses kicked. Of the three starting cities, only Jelkala remains.

What are the chances of them coming back and retaking their old cities? Would I be best off jumping ship now?
  10. -- Official Unofficial 'Ask Questions About Warband Singleplayer Here' Thread --

Were the loadouts of Rhodok melee troops changed around? I'm noticing that spearmen primarily have spears, but a few mixed in have swords or swinging polearms. This makes them far more useful against infantry than I remember.
  11. -- Official Unofficial 'Ask Questions About Warband Singleplayer Here' Thread --

..Scout parties? All I see are deserters and enemy lord parties, which are usually huge.

Also...why would industries make more money over time?
  12. I need an army to capture a fief, but I need fiefs to raise an army.

Are they really a good income? The estimated profit I always get always seems very small...In Reyvadin, for example, only a brewery had a weekly profit over 150...and that was around 200.
  13. -- Official Unofficial 'Ask Questions About Warband Singleplayer Here' Thread --

Male, though I'm curious about both. I know the basic mechanics behind getting the marriage done, I just don't know how what it affords you.
  14. -- Official Unofficial 'Ask Questions About Warband Singleplayer Here' Thread --

-What are the benefits of marrying?

-Do you have to be a vassal in a faction to marry?

-Does tactics have any usage outside of giant battles where battle advantage matters?

-Playing with realistic saving...It seems like there's little point to companions. You spend a bunch of money getting them equipment and then they disappear across the map whenever you lose a battle. It then takes an ingame week just to get them back.

-Other than looting villages and trade, how does one make good money? I've seen the buildable industries in towns - how good are those in general, and how much benefit do you get by manually supplying them with materials/hauling the stuff to market? Tournaments are good too, but seem to have diminishing returns.

-Does renown affect the ability to gather troops from villages?
  15. Normal AI= hard mode. Warning for newbies!

Has already probably been said, but it basically boils down to the fact that you refuse to play on difficulty settings appropriate for your skill level, and you're bad.

    * My Nord faction owns half map and I have Yalen as fief (with garrison around 600 + resting lords' armies) and yet Sarranids, after declaring war to Nords, with all their force, ignoring all other Nord cities/castles on the way, even those with low garrisons, rush all over the map straight to my Yalen with huge army! What a normal AI is this? It is simply set to punish player!

I don't know how the campaign AI chooses cities and neither do you; citing one example of them attacking you instead of others does not an argument make.

*I have lordly armor and masterpiece weapons and still got knocked down in two, three hits, while same lvl lords, whom I help in battle, are boosted to hell. I see how they rush into middle and still are on field after 3 enemies waves and finally have biggest kill score! If I try something like that i am dead in few hits!

They're probably getting hit less. Play better. Good armor doesn't make you invincible.

*I have 7 leadership and yet I can carry only 160 men, while lords with same leaderships carrying troops around 250 -300!

Troop capacity is affected by renown, as well.

    * I have very high relation with most of nord lords, but nevertheless when I am Marshal only 3-4 arrives, but when NPC is marshaling there is 7-10 who accompany him. I can get more to follow me only when saying them to ""come with me I have plan...""

Another anecdote; can't say anything about this other than that I don't believe you/there's something you're not telling us.

    * Senseless arena! I managed to win one, killed 12 men and survived all 40 of them and as a reward I got....250 denars! The price equal to some rusty sword in market!!!

Fighting in the arena isn't supposed to make good money...Otherwise people would just farm it all day. It even tells you ingame if you ask about rewards that you won't earn much.

    * There was attack on my castle and I brought jarls along and battle was like 1500 vs 1200. To survive this I had to stay in far safe corner, press ""charge "" time from time and wait, wait, wait. There were around 20 enemy waves, finally I just Alt+Tab to read net news till this ended with our victory. Not much fun.

"I chose not to fight and instead to sit in the back while waiting for the game to be over. Therefore, the game is broken"

    ...What?

    * On this settings prison break missions is simply impossible as well as other quests where you are with stick in robes against heavy armored guards!

Holy ****, you mean breaking into an enemy city and breaking out a high-profile prisoner is hard?

Same annoyance is with train peasants quest. Man, they already are better than me and can knock their so called trainer in 1-2 hits!

And you can knock them out in 1-2 hits. I think I'm starting to notice a trend...You think that because you have a level/equipment advantage you  should be invincible. You're not. Lower the difficulty if it's still too hard.

The entire premise of this post is ****ing ridiculous. You turned the difficulty settings to max so that you can feel good about yourself and now complain that you get your ass kicked...You think they should make the harder difficulties easier just so you can dominate while still being able to say you're playing at the highest difficulty.

Difficulty settings exist for a reason.
  16. i lost twice when raiding

Who would have thought that a game mechanic that lets you hurt your enemy economically while making yourself incredibly rich would have risks.
  17. put longbow into swadia and strong bow into nord

I wonder if people could realize that despite the nations being loosely based off of historical factions that they are not in fact said historical factions and the devs can indeed create some differences. The faction loosely based on France does not have to mirror France.
  18. Tips on Spear Fighting

It's quite possible to use a spear close up in melee. Aim the spear to the right of your opponent and then aim at his face once it's gained some momentum. No more "blocking" the spear just by facehugging.
  19. Recommended Hardware

My game played just fine in Dx7 mode with a low-end dual core processor, 2 gigs of RAM, and a Geforce 7300LE (which is horrifically weak).
  20. Question about Multiplayer

    lol.

I'm playing Warband on a dual core 2.2 ghz processor, 2 GB of RAM and a Geforce 7300LE graphics card (admittedly in DX7).

I think you're overestimating the system requirements of the game.
