The price increasing after every purchase is bad design for one simple reason: you had to explain it.

Everyone's so disappointed but I found this very encouraging. Balancing and refinement like this suggests that most of the core systems are complete.

Also this provides a fascinating insight into how a project this large starts to become a beast unto itself, requiring a sort of meta-analysis to be better comprehended.

    Seriously terrible, terrible textures.

    Which image/building?

Ok I would understand if the engine added a year or two on but with this many people it doesn't take that long to create a game and an engine.

No? How long did your game and engine take to make then?

I'm using common sense, something you don't have. If there are 50-100 people working on a game engine and a game, you should at least have a stable beta out by now.

So no personal experience then. "Common sense" can only extrapolate when given relevant data. Otherwise it's just "guessing." I've worked in the game industry and the development of this game has been far from slow. Did they announce the game too early? Absolutely. Has their communication at times been lacking? No doubt. But their rate of progression is actually quite commendable.

To all those asking, I'm afraid the background of the gif is most definitely a real-world picture.

I'm asking my girlfriend of 3 and a half years to marry me tomorrow (wish me luck). I didnt know her when Bannerlord was announced. Like many others I frantically searched the web every week, nearly every day to see if their was anything more Bannerlord related that I hadn't already seen. When we started dating she'd always ask whats that your looking at (Bannerlord google search on my phone). Since then my love for the Mount and Blade Series has never died and my longing for Bannerlord has never gone. I have found another love now whom I spend all my time with. I enjoy these blogs, I understand good things take a while and I understand that TaleWorlds is a small team of devs compared to other companies that can produce games in half the time and what they're striving for is so so much more then just another Warband with better graphics. So stop making complaints about how long things are taking or how they told us it that it may come out in 2016 then 2017. I've known I wanted to marry this girl since early on. I've had this engagement rings for months and have been working on when and how I'm gonna propose for months now.

Dude, that's really cool. Congratulations! I'd love to know how it goes
In the time since Bannerlord released their first teaser way back in 2012 I met a girl, married her, had a baby boy, and now he'll be turning 3 next month! Sometimes life comes in a rush!

Great blog. With all the powerful tools mentioned here there is potential for so many diverse and rich mods. I'd be curious what plans (if any) TaleWorlds has to allow monetization of mods or licensing of their engine.
  10. Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord at E3 2017 – Our Thoughts

How about taking the E3 demo and releasing it to your loyal fanbase? Clearly you're comfortable with that much of the game being seen and you presumably already have some stand-alone build of it made for this event. It really would go a long way to soothing this long, long wait.

To me what is funny is the combination of the silly story, the laughter and facial expressions of Risitas. Or at least was at the first 10 times I watched parodies like that.

Yeah, well, that's Risitas' whole bit. He always tells a strange story and dies of laughter the whole way through. The philosophy seems to be: "if you see someone else laughing you'll be tricked into thinking it really is funny". It gets old in a hurry.

More types of quests would be nice. An added variety of quest so they won't seem so repetitive. But I'm guessing by the lack of mentioning new types of quest they are still repetitive.
You talk about Valuable relationships with NPCs, but only cover one type of relationship. Recruiting.

I do wish this game be taken farther than just being a new and improved warband. Becasue the blatant dependency on modders and mods is too obvious.

I think I remember reading some time ago that there would be a greater variety of quests, but I'm not certain. As for more examples of relationships with NPCs, they said in the PC Gamer article that being on good terms with an NPC could mean they will help you in other situations. If you need to kidnap someone for instance, that will be much easier if you have friendly NPCs in the town. The situations in which an NPC can help you will depend upon what type of NPC they are; for example merchants give you advantages in trading, whereas a gang leader can give you advantages in 'special operations'.

Well, they did say in this blog post "While you might complete a single quest multiple times...the consequences can vary on each occasion." Sounds like a fair amount of repetition. Not surprising but still a bit sad.

Hello there, will height and weight option be in Bannerlord when customizing a character?
We have already shown weight. Height is not currently in the game and there are some technical challenges associated with it that could prevent it from happening. Never say never though...
Hmm, bit disapointing, hopefully they get this worked out.
Yeah, because we want dwarves, hobbits and giants on mods, so height is quite important (the less hacks we would need to add new races, the better)

Yeah, but it's a very understandable issue. Like most games, all of the animations are canned, rigidly defined in a predetermined way that will play out the same every time you swing a sword, fire an arrow, raise a shield, etc. Add on top of that the more elaborate combat mechanics really need an accurate visual feedback to the player of what is happening (i.e. when I block someone I need to actually see a point where our swords cross and the motion stops at the place of contact). Given two players that are of the same height you just create one animation for each character to show that block. Given two players where each is at one of two possible heights you now have to create two more animations to help cover the new possible combinations, otherwise it might appear that our swords pause in midair for no reason. Still doesn't seem to bad, but suppose now that the height slider provides for as many as 10 different height values (many height sliders have even more). All told you would end up with 91 different animations to cover every possible match-up. Horrifying.
Of course another alternative would be to not make the animations canned, but dynamic and self-composing in real-time. You can imagine though that 1) That's a nightmare unto itself to design and always prone to unexpected, erratic behavior and 2) Processing a battle with even a fraction of the army sizes we've come to expect would slow to a crawl under all those calculations.

It's just that I'm really frustrated...I really want you (again, the whole TW team) to also understand how hard it is for some of us to wait, and wait, and wait, in the dark.

Patience is a virtue, my friend, it truly is. It's fine to wish that PR models were different or that we had the game in beta form already... But to let that turn into frustration or anger, that's on each of us individually to manage. Whether we get angry or not won't change the outcome of when the game comes out, only how upset we'll be in the meantime. So a word to the wise, take it in stride.

In fact, why can't we just discuss the actual games we're looking forward to? Personally the new South Park game, State of Decay 2, and The Last of Us II can't come fast enough. Those are the three I see the way people here see Bannerlord except, again, with the advantage of the fact they're actually releasing this year.

Well, y'know, this is kind of the Bannerlord forums, so, shockingly, that's what people are looking to talk about here. See the way it works is if you want to talk about those other games you can go to their websites and join their forums. In fact, please do.
