It is truly painful watching complete newcomers to M&B try to play Bannerlord. I guess for us who have played 1000+ hours of Mount and Blade (and read the dozens of blog posts over the years) it's so intuitive what to do, what screens to look at, where to move and attack, but this gameplay video... like watching a toddler try to operate a crane.

I think it may have worked better for the demo to have been a bit more guided by Taleworlds. They could have had an employee / game tester as the 'pilot', but at each decision point allowed the guests to decide what action to take or where to go.  A guided tour of Calradia, so to speak.

The video does point to the fact that a game like Bannerlord will remain niche. It's not a well-understood genre like FPS or turn-based strategy, and it's a sandbox so players don't have a storyline to keep them moving.  If Taleworlds goal is to create an improved Warband, I think Bannerlord will succeed, but if their ambition is to broaden the reach of the game and get more players into it, I don't see it happening.  May not be a bad thing to remain a niche game, but I wish more gamers could appreciate this gem of a series.

I actually really like watching newcomers play the game they do things that experienced players never would thus allowing us to see more of the game. I am hoping that someone will have just done a bunch of quests or perhaps entered a battle and chosen the surrender option just to see what happens.

What happens when the defenders run out of food do they starve to death or surrender? In the screenshot it appears that they have 0 food yet the siege is still going on.

What does the number 64101 under the image of the tower at the top of the screenshot mean?

My question for Onurcan Dönmez is: Will castles serve their purpose? I mean, in Warband, we could pass near enemy castles without any trouble. For example, in our war with the Rhodoks, we could travel to Jelkala passing lots of castles and nothing would stop us. Bandits also could wander around cities and castles without any problem. They don't control any area. An example would be Asugan Castle, it should have had critical importance due to their control on Sarranid-Khergit border. But I can't see any there. In Bannerlord, I'd like to see that enemy lords won't troll me sieging my capital without needing to capture any border castles.

Historically there was nothing stopping a force from completely ignoring a castle and moving right past it. The reason invading armies didn't ignore castle's was because they needed the food the defending people had stored in the castle or because if they bypassed the castle and relied on supply trains from their homeland those supply trains could be raided by the people in the castle. This means the invading force had to leave men behind to guard the supply train if it wanted to bypass the castle. The only thing stopping bandits from wandering wherever they like is a superior military force that is hostile to them. There is no reason why they shouldn't run around near castles and cities. In fact I would expect bandits near cities raiding caravans and killing farmers. The reason you can ignore castles in warband is because you can carry 30 days worth of food with you.

    Questions for Onurcan Dönmez
    1. How many hours does it take to play through 30 in game years. A rough estimate is fine.
    2. Which faction(s) tend to be eliminated first.
    3. Which faction(s) tend to expand and get bigger

I don't really see how mount and blade Bannerlord will be anything like CK2. The only way in which they are similar is that they are RPGs set in a realistic medieval world simulator. In order to accurately simulate a medieval setting at some point you must add in families, birth and death. The fact that both games have these features is because the game is designed to immerse the player in a realistic medieval setting not because one game is taking ideas from another.

Ignoring the rate at which characters die in battle a conservative estimate of a lifetime in Bannerlord is 7 years in Warband which is more than enough time to make friends and enemies with many different characters.

In addition you are still building relationships with characters and not clans.

What about the ridiculous timewarping? The blog seemed fine but most people seem to be glossing over the fact the time scale seems wacky

With the confirmation of the character  eventually dying from old age, this is now a big concern for me as well. I'm not against dying of old age (I think it's a great addition) but I fear I'm going to feel rushed by the new, faster timescale. If it's the case, it's going to ruin my experience with Bannerlord.

A year in Bannerlord is 84 days where as a year in Warband is 365 days. If you assume that you start the game with a 20 year old character and die of old age at 50 then that is 30 years in Bannerlord.
Assumption: A day in Bannerlord is the same length of time as in Warband
    30 x 84 = 2520 days
    2520/365 = 6.9 years
Therefore the lifetime of a character in Bannerlord, under the given assumptions, is roughly equivalent to 7 years of gameplay in Warband.
I don't know about you but i never played more than 2.5 years on a character in Warband so i doubt it will feel rushed.

It is well known that horseback riding and slashing 2 will greatly strengthen the economic system. The economy is divided into output and consumption. If the weapons built by the factory can be used all the time, the factory will lose the meaning of long-term existence, so I boldly make a prediction. The weapons used by all people riding and slashing 2 have wear mechanisms, and there are various logistical replenishment mechanisms.
maybe. But it may also be that weapons and horses are consumed when soldiers are recruited and since soldiers die in battle and most of their equipment isn't plundered by the enemy as loot more weapons and horses will be needed to recruit more soldiers. I suspect that recruitment and upgrade costs will be fixed but that the amount of upgrades/recruitment will determine the profit of the productive enterprises that produce weapons and horses. I hope that recruitment and upgrade costs fluctuate depending on supply and demand but I expect that will have to be modded in.

This was exactly as I feared it would be...

Dying of old age? In a SANDBOX game?

To me this is the worst idea you guys could come up with, honestly.
This probably means the slow character buildup (which was one of the very things I loved the most in warband) won't be viable in Bannerlord as level ups will need to be fast enough to allow you to reach full potential in a short lifetime.
I'm not at all interested in the whole succession thing, I'm among those who wants to create a character and keep playing it. Now if this thing is just forced on me and I haven't the option to turn it off, I'd like to know if at least I will be allowed to export and import my character in a new game, like in warband (and I'm not talking about saving a preset appearance I mean the exact same export mechanic).
If the answer is "No" then this pretty much puts a big heavy tombstone on Bannerlord for me, I'm sorry guys

The player death feature is optional. I don't know whether it is optional for AI though they might just eventually die of old age.
