    Dev Blog 03/08/17

A blog every Thursday is a good idea to stay connected to the community. As many have mentioned, I too was starting to think, TW has forgotten us but with the weekly blog updates, better late than never!
The latest material on Bannerlord are amazing and it looks glorious!

Just saw one of the released videos again and the feature where you can defeat gangs and take over alleyways is one of the top 5 features I personally am looking forward to. Since not many details have been released so far, i thought it would be nice to get some thoughts as to what the community thinks of this feature.

There would need to be some sort of balance with how many people we allocate from our party to such activities, also how many such alleyways / gangs would be there in the city to make it realistically possible to 'take' over the city. My call would be to do patrolling streets of my allies / faction and take up nefarious activities in neutral or enemy cities or towns, but again it would depend on how much income such activities would generate.

But i don't mean stuff like release date, saying co-op will be there if it's not 100% etc.
More like some weekly screenshots, some details about some lords, general lore stuff etc... I'm not asking much but just something
Maybe a few posts from the devs themselves, not exactly revealing what they are working on, but their inputs on what the journey for Bannerlord has been so far, what are their expectations from the players perspective, what the game means to them, etc.. etc...
If they really want, they can keep engaging the community. Plus even if we have a one post per 2-3 weeks, the community will get something to talk about on these forums.

Yeah, I agree with everyone about the lack of information being released.  It's getting ridiculous!  I'm not asking for big dev blogs or something...just any little information to keep us updated.  I'm beginning to suspect that the game is nowhere near ready for us to play if they can't get even release little tidbits/screenshots/tiny paragraphs of info on the game.  I wouldn't be surprised if we don't get a beta until this time next year.
Totally! I am not cursing the fact that there is no beta, rather there is no update. The speed with which every thing is moving so far, makes your estimate of the beta very likely, although it is no fun to admit it. How hard is it to release a few screenshots every now and then, or to take a few seconds of test gameplay video and release it? It is not going to diminish the game's value, rather will get all us players hyped to get a copy of our own and start shouting, 'I'll drink from your skull!!'

Possibly pretty heckin' hard if they have no idea how long they'll need to keep going releasing new information or what things they might have to cut from final release.
If thats the case, then they are not following any planned approach to software development. Speaking with my experience developing software, regardless of fact that the software takes 4 months or 4 years, there needs to be a strategy to deal with various bugs and unforeseen issues (if that's what is holding back the release) that come up and updates to the community especially as loyal as the one here. I am not saying release a buggy version, but regular updates are essential. My thought is that the non release of any regular updates might be a part of marketing strategy. Believe it or not, in the past  2 - 3 months, a couple of my friends have seen me playing Warband mods and then they discovered how amazing Bannerlord looks in the material released so far. So there you have it - without any much effort, they have got a couple more purchases for sure!

If we're still at the point that they can't release info because they aren't sure if that feature will remain the same or they don't know if the feature will be in final game, we won't get this game before 2020. There're a lot of things on which they can make a blog to interact a bit with us, things we know are already in. I'm sorry but there aren't any excuses, at least if game is near release in next months. When do they plan to release the blogs, 2 days before release ?
+1. Very true. If they really wanted to, they could.

I'd still like to see the features tab on the website filled out though. Despite the steam page, when I really think about it, I still don't know much about a lot of game features. But I will admit, it got me a little hyped for the game.
    Very true.
Atleast for me, the steam page gives a new hope that we will soon see a beta (or to be VERY optimistic - an early access) in a few months. I am not sure this year would be very realistic (Not even 3 full months remaining), probably Q1-Q2 of 2017 might be more likely.

Totally! Wardogs have been used in armies in the past. If not Bannerlord then probably in a DLC or mods.

It would be nice to unleash some wardogs on the less armored enemy troops or on cavalry to rapidly decrease the morale of the enemy!  :shifty:

This looks like a hunting scene, with a dog in the foreground and a horseman possibly shooting a bird. Maybe one of the others has a raptor. Haven't seen the poster without a ladder in the way:

Wow! I have been through this video a couple of times but didn't notice this. Nice observation Meevar!
Hope your assumptions are correct and Bannerlord has implemented these. Would be fun to take 1 - 2 companions on a hunt and get some free meat for the men in the party.

Yeah, it´s a new calculation process, but it cannot be that hard to teach a cav unit a few new algorithms. The unit has its own behavior right now, so why not a bit more in addition?
We do not know what maneuvers cavs have . We are talking about horses. not cavs. Horse and the guy riding the horse will have their own individual decision makings.

    Ki-Ok Khan 说:
We are talking about giving Horses their own brain. To decide if they want to bump the enemy or bump into the wall or not.It is a whole new calculation process.

But they already do this if they're unmounted. Having, let's say, a staggered calculation every 0.3 of a second where horses check roughly for objects and troops around them is actually pretty small compared to some of the coding monsters in warband.

For example, the battlefield morale system is more or less broken, but for a battle between 2 armies of 200 men (a full custom battle) it has to execute a ~100 operation block of code 160,000 times every 3 seconds. None of this amounts to anything because it's full of contradictory code which never works in practice.
That is not what we are talking about . Horses while they are individual do not have their own brain(in wb). They just run away from you if they are hit. For about 5 secs. And if you are in its way it will hit you . And not try to avoid you or stop when it sees you. After they ran away they stop and you can then go and mount that horse. that is not how horses react. We are talking about giving horse its own decision making separate than the guy riding it . And making them smarter which will then cause the game to be more demanding.
I have not yet come across any mention of other animals than horses on the released material on Bannerlord (Forgive me if it has been mentioned anywhere and I missed it). It would be nice to have camels as well in Bannerlord. The 'Calradia 1050 AD' mod for Warband has nicely implemented camels. It would be nice for the desert based faction to be able to access these. Speaking about animals, the hunting (boars or deers) feature which some mods have also is a nice one.

I just want NEWS, I want to know where they are in the dev process, what are their plans, maybe see some new screenshots, even unfinished assets would be awesome. Hell, I'd even be glad if they just posted something like "we don't want to discuss features too much before release, so we won't talk about it", at this point.
Delays are ok, deadlines not achieved are perfectly fine and really everyone know it's common. But beeing totally mute to the community is not cool at all.
    That's what I said.

What I am saying is " I am expecting the PR team to be more interactive with their community and not just remain silent."
Release of Warband on consoles should not be an excuse about why their PR is so silent.
Totally agree to what has been said above. I, for one, am not frustrated over the time taken for release. As many will agree, we all want a polished product. However the lack of regular updates is what upsets me. And this is not like we are 1-2 years from when the game was announced. Its been a staggering four years! There have been what, less than 30 blogs on their sites and 4 - 5 videos posted (admit it which many of us find an excuse to watch over and over again  :shifty: ). It would be worth while to keep the community updated with lets say monthly posts or screens from development. Not necessary to provide functionality which they want to unveil later but something related to what has been already released. Engagement with the community is the best way to maintain the hype surrounding Bannerlord.

@camping, I definitely think NPC and player parties should have to make camp at night, or face morale penalties, because otherwise they just get around way too fast.
I guess Warband currently has a morale system for Lords, isnt it? I might be wrong but I have come across lots of deserter parties in native with some being as big as 60 odd. I believed this was due to the soldiers deserting lord armies once their morale was low enough.
In fact at one point I had a party of 30-35 Nord Warriors and got cut down to ribbons by a party of 50 Rhodok Sharpshooter deserters. It would be nice if the lords could camp and save us the trouble of facing these deserters ( atleast when we are just trying to find our feet in the initial stages of the game) !
