Skipping the introduction parts and the parts that I feel weren't interesting.

Oyungezer: For us, it's not just about the game being good but also feeling proud of it. I will be playing a Turkish game for the first time on E3. A few other games were here before, you were allowing playtime last year as well but I never had the chance. I never played Bannerlord before, I mean I did the last time I visited you, but I was just taken out on a stroll through the villages (in game) so I never got to see the combat parts. There are 3 demos, which one would you recommend?

Armağan: The demos have combat but none of them put as us the battle commander. In the first one, you command the cavalry, the second one is for commanding the horse archers. The third one is for experts of the game, a bit more difficult version of the demo.

Oyungezer: Let's not get into the difficult part, don't want to be embarrassed. (laughs)

Armağan: Then let's the do the horse archer one.

    Oyungezer: Desert map.

Armağan: Yeah, this is the desert map. Right now you need to command your soldiers, the commander can give directives occasionally. The easiest command is to use F1 - F3 to have them follow you.

Oyungezer: Follow me! Let's see...they're following me. I can see a list of my soldiers. 61 swordsman, 37 archers, 35 cavalry, 71 horse archers. Oh, we have a lot of soldiers.

Armağan: Yeah, you're only commanding the 71 horse archers, the rest are with the battle commander.

Oyungezer: Okay, so we'll harass the enemy. Are those the enemy?

Armağan: Yeah, those red ones. Since you're a horse archer, you can only fire to your left. Can't draw the bow to your right. So you need to move counter-clockwise to the enemy.

Oyungezer: So we need to flank from the right?

Armağan: Yeah, yeah, flank from the right.

Skipping a bit, nothing much of substance here.

    3:35

A: Our main host has met the enemy and are engaging, you should probably help them.

O: Should I just randomly shoot there? Would I hurt our own guys?

A: Yeah, if you fire randomly, you can hurt your teammates. Your soldiers wouldn't but you could.

A: The best tactic for cavalry is to never stop moving, don't get bunched up.

    4:40

O:The effects look very nice. It looks like the dust is rising from horse movements and the wind.

A: Yeah, the desert ambiance looks good, doesn't it?

    5:00

O: So which factions are these?

A: We are Khuzaits and the enemies are Aserai.

O: So we're a bit like Mongols and the Aserai are kinda Arabic?

A: Yeah, Khuzaits are Turk-Mongol themed, yeah.

O: I mean, I'm not playing too well here but the game doesn't feel strange to me, it's alike Warband and I got used to it quickly. I played Warband for a couple of hundred hours. There seems to be more movement, more animations. Are we winning, by the way?

    A: Actually, you're losing badly.

O: (laughs) Are we? Well, the cavalry wasn't moving. Our commander must be bad then.

    A: (laughs)

O: Let me see. Oh, pretty much everyone has died. We've got about 15 men left.

A: Well, your 15 men could be enough for the rest of the enemies.

O: Yeah, they got a bit separated. Our commander gave the order to fall back but no. My men won't run away, right? As long as I'm here?

A: Yeah, you are their commander. Your men won't run away unless you give the order.

O: Alright, I'll kill the enemy first and go after our commander later. (both laugh) Is that not the tradition?

A: Just as you were saying that...

O: Yeah, just as I was saying that, didn't turn out that way. Not only they put me down but also stepped on me.

O: That was good for a first try. Do I quit now?

A: Return to the game, press TAB and then "Fall back", because the battle is still going on. You could watch the fight if you want, your soldiers can win after you fall.

O: The archery was very good. Shall we try Vlandia now?

    7:50

O: I'm commanding the cavalry now. This time I have 37 cavalry, but the commander has 88 swordsman, 66 archers, and another 29 cavalry under him.

O: There are lots of formations and commands here. I suppose they're controlled by the other F buttons.

A: Yes, you could tell them to face a certain way, to get off their horses, allow them to fire at will, different commands like that.

O: Compared to Warband, there are lots of orders to give.

A: Yeah, compared to Warband, the formations are completely new. It is much easier to give commands and lead the soldiers to different positions. You can hold the left mouse button and line them up

O: Alright, we're given a command now, being told to flank from the left.

A: Hmm, you're being told to engage the horse archers. There must be some horse archers around here. Look, they're right there.

O: Oh, I missed. Thankfully my men are better than me.

O: This map looks like a steppe map. What other types are there?

A: In the campaign, the type of land you are on dictates the map type. It could be snowy, when it is winter, the snow is automatically there. If it is raining on the campaign map, the battle map has rain as well.

    12:00
    O: Is there a mini-map?

A: No, we didn't put one on purpose. It could be done but we didn't want to disrupt that feeling of being an ordinary man on the battlefield. Modders will certainly add minimaps but it doesn't look like we will.

    O: Are those our guys?

A: Yeah, looks like the commander pulled them back, they're reorganizing and will attack again.

    O: Come on, commander.

O: Yeah, the order to attack has come in.

A: It looks like your infantry lost the initial fight and your archers tried to pull back to the hill. Now the enemy's main force is moving on your archers.

O: By the way, we got a skill point. I suppose we are called "Eren"? The character name seems to be that.

    A: Yes.

O: Do the horses ever get tired?

A: No, they don't run out of stamina. They can get hurt though.

O: But it does feel like you increased the amount of health points for the purposed of this demo.

A: Yeah, since people can be lacking in experience, we did that.

    - Battle ends with the player dying -
O: Well, it looks like we were going to win. So we can fast-forward at this point, to see the result.

O: It does the fast-forwarding quite fast. Yes, we won. Anyways, it is very enjoyable. Has been years since I played Warband so I wasn't very good but mechanically, it's not too different. It feels like a continuation of Warband. Hoping to see more game modes at Gamescom.

    O: No release date yet?

A: No, since we don't know the release date either, we can't say anything about that.

They can't even say when a possible release date is after 5 years since announcement, as well as the preproduction as according to TW they began right after warbands launch, so more like 6 or 7 . They just toss out every few months "end of this year maybe, in some form" then go quiet until they decide to make some kind of vague post, "not this year, next maybe". I know I'm not entitled to anything, but what kind of marketing is this? Long development times are OK as long as we know whats happening, TW have made an effort to be as secretive as possible.

This game has gone through development hell - as we know, they've expanded dramatically hiring college students to work on the project as well as building a new engine - I theorize that they bit off way more than they could chew, overdeveloped a bloated engine that they had to redo AND had to train there new employees because a lot of them are straight of the college - then I'm guessing they were also overly ambitious with the game, and the game does appear to be suffering from feature creep because before the game wasn't set to have any indepth siege weapons and destruction, or crafting - and now it does. I know enough about software development to know that you can't just keep expanding the product forever because it'll never be finished and the larger it gets, the more difficult it becomes for it to be stable, balanced, and polished rather than a complete mess.

The time where I was craving a M/b game is almost over and I'm finally ready to move on, I can't prolong hype or excitement or passion for something for 5 years with no relieve, I'm not even sure I'd enjoy the game they'd release anymore and I've almost lost interest. Whenever I return to Warband, its jankier and jankier and feeling older and older and if Bannerlord is just a few steps forward from that with 2014 graphics instead of 2005 graphics, then idk if it'll be any good. Last chance for this game for me is E3, if they just show another video and vaguely talk about game concepts and say the same old "Soon" "Some form at the end of this year" "No set release date" "We're working really hard" "more info soon" then there is no ****ing hope for this game. But they still should, because I know for a fact the game would still be successful if it was just a more polished warband that wasn't butt ****ing ugly.

It does seem that info that is being released by Taleworlds is very strict and limited.

Probably for a good reason or maybe they have some Byzantine methodology they follow when figuring out what/how/when to release such info.

As as side note, is it even appropriate to refer to a Turkish company as having Byzantine anything ?

No. Either TW has abysmal marketing strategy, or they are in development hell and we are unlikely to ever see the game. And I don't blame Lust, he's cool guy its the studio won't let him...

Well, they said they hoped to have something playable by the end of the year. I guess I'll have to find comfort with the fact that, if they hoped to have something by now, it must be really damn close.
They have already said that it looked very unlikely . I have heard that its coming in Q1 but cant guarantee.

I bet we won't even see it til 2018 at this point.

We get more regular updates on **** Warband, than we do on Bannerlord. Kinda scares me what must've been going on initially if they really couldn't say definitively or show what the game was going to be like because it was radically changing shape on a weekly basis - given we've seen some gameplay and some blogs, I feel like we are over the hump of them **** around. That being said, I do believe they are falling into the trap of feature creep - like sieges being destructible, the weapon crafting system, ect.

I'd rather we get the game, it be awesome and polished, then they expand upon there idea's later in a DLC (Let's say:Wrath of Samurai) where they add an invading force of samurai originating from an island suspiciously like Japan along the coast, we will dub it Nippon (literally japan, but it is a video game who cares). Extra features could be more political intrigue in the form of managing assassins, monks, diplomats as well Naval combat. Japanese castles would be **** awesome to fight in with our current system.

How epic would it be if Beta / Early access was released on 27th of September out of nowhere ^^

Anyway are you guys positive about a release this year ? It looks like the game is almost finished and right now they're polishing, balancing etc.
This doesn't inspire confidence in a game meant to be out within 4 months:
    k1xFpKb.jpg

Well I think we can all almost agree that Taleworlds communication about the game has been horrible - silence for long periods of time, nothing but vague answers to questions asked at presentations, and excuses like "Well If we want to make a devblog we have to entirely stop development and polish the hell out of xyz...".... which apparently isn't a problem for paradox or any other developer.

They could make up for it by announcing a release date on september 27th or some kind of early access atleast; I'm starting to be afraid that M/b Bannerlord is going to be a victim of feature creep...

please add advanced network api support, so modders can make their own coop campaign mod

    they might, you never know.

Or they'll just give you the source code with documentation, along with dev tools to design the game like they've promised which with a thorough understanding of the games code and engine, maybe someone could develope the structure for a coop campaign mod.

I still believe its absurd beyond 2 people; Either you watch every single battle, or time precedes as normal during battles, leading to absurdly long battles on worldmap.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Old Discussion Thread

I just have 2 vague requests for Bannerlord; More diverse gameplay, and expand the **** out of multiplayer and modding.

More diverse game-play; Warband always boiled down into the same path; Kill bandits/looters, get noticed, fight for lord, get fiefs, form faction, conquer world.
That's exciting the first time, but there is literally nothing else to do in the game. In Bannerlord I hope we see the opportunity to become a bandit king, to loot and pillage the world. Or maybe become the leading mercenary, being in charge of a knightly order or the most extensive mercenary companies in Calradia. How about saving the empire and becoming Emperor? Why not expand the tournament system, so much so that you go through the old empire rising through various tournament ranks til you play in the grand coliseums we've seen, alone or with companions (anyone play the old Lucasarts game Gladius? oh nostalgia) I mean it's perfect for Mount and Blade. We've also seen interest from TW in expanding diplomacy so there are more options to expansion than "Surrender or Die".

Onto Multiplayer; It will take time, but I hope Bannerlord expands beyond the variety we already see in Warband, I mean already we've seen incredibly creative stuff such as PW which is basically a MMO in Mount and Blade, Nord Invasion, cRPG, etc. I hope that the modability of Bannerlord allows for these mods (and future mods) to be way less obtuse and have many more QoL features that are currently impossible to implement, one being how hard it is to actually start on these servers because a lot of functions in mods like PW are buggy and... odd .If M/b multiplayer turned into a lobby to play totally different online games, I'd be happy. I'd be even happier if the server limits were expanded from 200 to something crazy like 1,000 instead.
At this point I'm just writing down my thoughts, anyone else share these wishes?

They made it understandable for console players ? All that make me afraid...
Hey if they are developing for consoles, good luck to em. If the UI is clunky and obviously streamlined with consoles in mind, I have no doubt the extremely talented modding community will come up with something better. Much like Skyrim's UI.

You have to consider that no matter how amazing(or disappointing) Bannerlord is on release day, it will be a completely different game a few months/years down the line.

SkyUI makes my eyes bleed, that and the mod developer tried to cash in on paid mods is why I am not a fan. That however is another topic entirely.

Anyway, how does introducing the player to ingame mechanics count as dumbing down? They've clearly said "Hey Some of our players still don't understand basic game mechanics after long amounts of gameplay, so let's have an optional introductory questline to accomplish that". Not "Game too complicated, make it simpler!"

Anyway.... (moving on from this quote)

For Once I'll jump on the "This company isn't like all the others!" Bandwagon, Taleworlds know about the most popular mods are and are very in touch with there multiplayer community. Even though there marketing for bannerlord has been secretive and I shan't forgive thee (Probably because everything was getting changed daily). As for the "We will give the player the option of playing in any style they want to play..." qoute, could have meaning or not. Remember marriage in Warband

Oh and another note, I opened the PCgamer article, then came back to it 5 minutes later to see in comments; 87 new comments (refresh page).
    Damnit there marketing is working!

Gamescom - Combat?? - Full Thoughts.

I might start a thread about this, but what stood out to me in the combat gameplay was the feinting/interrupting an attack.

It looked bad. Really bad. He goes from a fluid swing to an awkward, stiff blocking animation. I propose instead that there is a "feint" animation, where the character instead returns to default animation (and after feinting you can block).

Idk how exactly it would work, but I'd prefer it instead of just losing all the momentum of your swing, which is funny because an important part of mount and blade's combat is speed and momentum (atleast when on horseback).

Something I found very interesting in the B footage video was the fighting scene, the 2nd looter that was killed seemed to quickly raise his dagger for a block right before the player swung, we heard a clang and the looter was knocked to the ground, and in battle feed we read "Looter knocked unconscious", this is incontrast to his first kill which was a direct hit.

Interesting, so we might be able to harm entities through a block.

edit; Watching in 0.25 he didn't block, was identical to dying except for the different falling animation (likely still used for death).

CA appear to have a very short memory, since in there E3 showing of "15 years of total war" they only went as far back as empire.

Well lets remember that Rome 1 has pre-historic animation, but was scripted and constructed far better than anything up until this game in warscape. Still needs alot of work, but being similar to the original games while having a much larger variety and level of complexity (that giant spider eating people and spitting out there weapons). Atleast they're trying, unlike the last couple of warscape games that have lazy hollywood animation that makes me regularly vomit.
