  1. Minister is now missing..

So I captured my first town, Shariz and started my own kingdom. I appointed Klethi as minister of Shariz, the town was eventually retaken by the Sarranids. After recapturing the town, Klethi is no longer there and the companion mission reports say she is serving as minister in my kingdom. I get...
  2. Ragdolling, Gore and the feel.

I saw a documentary once about the longbow and it's effect on the battles of the time. Anyway, this professional archer demonstrates by firing and arrow over a lake at this target dummy, the dummy is wearing a steel breastplate and the arrow simply punctured right through and stopped in the ground. Obviously the arrow however, would have been of higher quality than the usual of the time, but high quality is what is available in Mount and Blade.

Also, I recall a school shooting somewhere in the Eastern States of Australia, a guy fired a crossbow at somebody, went through 2 people I believe. This is a separate issue slightly, as it's a modern device, but the concept is the same. Large projectiles such as arrows and bolts can and do completely pierce human targets.

It's worth noting also that the 5.56mm rounds used in most modern assault rifles are designed to be stopped by the body, this way they transfer all the force to the surrounding tissue on impact, shattering bone and pulverizing flesh and generally spinning through the body causing carnage. Most rifles used in the first two world wars where less effective at killing and maiming, because the bullet would pass right through the body on a comparatively straight and 'benign' trajectory.
  3. Ragdolling, Gore and the feel.

I seem to notice the momentum of ragdolls is quickly robbed, which is most noticeable when someone riding a horse is killed as they are moving fast and they're high off the ground. When they actually fall out of the saddle they quickly loose speed as if their corpse is suddenly moving through something much thicker than air. The effect is very subtle, but compare ragdolling across different games and you'll see it. Oblivion has this effect even more emphasized, explode a bunch of people and they'll 'puff' up into the air then float down like feathers. I imagine in Oblivions case, it's to prevent corpses from being too untraceable.

Have to say, I'm also pretty partial to the odd, or frequent, dismemberment.
  4. New or better female models.

    €hris 说:
Don't replay saying that the women back then were fugly. Because I know that. The women in this game, however, don't look much like Humans at all. I was unaware that the Human skull could form in such a way, referring to the womens completely unproportional facial features..

A silly point as it is, there is no reason to believe ALL women back then would be ugly. Who knows, a little toil and sunshine might improve the looks of a lot of todays women.
  5. Ragdolling, Gore and the feel.

I've browsed over similar suggestions regarding ragdolling and gore, but I'd like to expand and elaborate on some things that I'd think would really enhance the visceral quality of combat in Mount and Blade. Most people seem to agree on the idea of ragdolls being more reactive to physical...
  6. Suggestion: M&B - feeling like a badass

I'm seeing a lot of naysaying here on technical grounds. Honestly, I don't see how it could be much more challenging than the face customisation system, already in place. Easier in fact, there are even fewer parameters in question.

I wholeheartedly agree with the original post and the notion that a well nourished knight or constantly feasting nord, both tempered by hard work and quality rest, would be quiet bulky and muscular. Perhaps attributes could be either enhanced or impaired by good or insufficient diet, as mentioned earlier, river pirates would appear pretty darn pathetic and skinny, low strength and usually starving. While perhaps a starving kerghit would still be muscular but in a wiry way.

And no, Oblivion had no such dynamic system in place, each race had cloned bodies basically, so it would be another point to Mount and Blade if it's implemented.

As for the ragdolling suggestion, I thought exactly the same thing when I played the latest version for a while. Air resistance on the ragdolls appears too high, some crunchy noises as they hit the ground would be cool too. A heavy charger ploughing through peasants at full speed, should be horrific, kinetic and maybe even a little sexual.
  7. What are you?

    Gculk 说:
Grun, which side of the funeral are you talking bout, the receiving end, or the visiting end?

On why I am an atheist.  ****ing with the bible, and interpretation.  People have been altering the bible since it's creation, so it is a very unreliable source.  Even if it were completely reliable, much of it is up to interpretation, not set in stone morality, and the fact that everyone says god is a forgiving feller, but he turned one person into a ****ing spire of salt for looking at him the wrong way, so interpretations of the bible are more about picking the tales to tell than to send an accurate picture of this Jesus feller wanted us to act like.

That really is the essence of my disagreement with organised religion. It's also what comforts me when I think 'Randy, what with all your rock'n'roll exploits and wild partying, arn't you afraid of going to hell?' Then I just think about how unbelievable it is and go back to fiddling with the underage boy.
  8. So about milk...

    I man mad with hunger.
  9. Pterodactyl: The nichest of porn markets.

Ok so I saw it and had a wan.. chuckle. All I can say is, what the hell were they thinking? Though as you say, they really cornered the extinct flying dinosaur market and kicked it's ass.
My concern though is whether that smaller one was really old enough to be involved, hopefully the FBI aren't hunting me down as we speak for my sick paedophilia addiction.
  10. So about milk...

Hmm, having cancer to me would make the original question insignificant. 'Is milk healthy for you, or not?'
But I can see how if you had cancer your lifestyle might be considered 'sedentary' and how you'd not want to get fat and have cancer. In that case I'd recommend skim milk.
  11. So about milk...

Yeah what he said. Don't worry about getting skim milk or anything, unless you lead a completely sedentary lifestyle you can do with the calories and protein.
  12. What are you?

Well put Kissaki, always good when someone says this so I don't have to.

Personally I don't even believe in any sort of Karma anymore, to me it justifies one being a victim and implies that by doing the right thing (by your standards), you are somehow exempt from misfortune or any sort of malice. That isn't true, good people are beaten and murdered, innocent children are slaughtered in the name of ethnic cleansing and many of these people who perpetrate these crimes against humanity not only sleep perfectly well at night, often they profit greatly from the misery they bring upon others.

Karma, the Grace of God, moral high ground, its all a load of crap if you can't physically defend your most basic of rights. Those who are exploited, murdered or in any way victimised are sometimes those who forget this, or they are just really unlucky. What ever way you look at it, you can't rely on something completely intangible, that is, supernatural, to defend you. It's good sense, friends, family and luck that will save you.
  13. This is the coolest tech demo I have ever seen.

    Orion 说:
Just some ragdolls and such would be enough to make people happy in M&B(2), but added in with that kind of dismemberment... That would be hella nice. You could seriously lop off heads then.

Or collapse them in with a mace or a hard charge. I imagine when this sort of thing is finally implemented in a game you could do some real nice damage. I can picture it in combination with Euphoria, cutting a guy in half and watching him wiggle on the ground as his hps (if such an abstract system is still used) drain to zero. Can't wait
  14. This is the coolest tech demo I have ever seen.

Soft body physics at least as good as these are mandatory for M&B2. Download it and just try to disagree. Hell it's mandatory for any fps/3rd person to come in my opinion. www.realmatter.com
  15. What is the Status of Stunblock in the Update?

Thats fair enough, but the point is half of these taps a peasant gives you shouldn't make you so much as flinch.
Personally I agree, the stun system is very annoying, verging on game breaking for foot soldiers, especially when your massive axe is magically stopped less than an inch from someones face just because you've been nudged in the belly.
  16. Mount&Blade on"next gen"consoles

This thread is delicious to me, never thought I'd ever spot a much reputed 'sony fanboi', and wow. Brain like puddy.

Yep, I'd say in terms of actual applicable performance, many pcs outstripped PS3, before it even launched. Now days, you get a mid level, high end leaning pc, it most likely beats the PS3, in real world application, even if it cant boast abazzillion giglyflops of pluck, on paper anyway.
My GFX card, has skipped quite a few generations (radeon 9600), my cpu, even more. So all in all, its newest component is 3 years old possibly more, it runs source games at highest settings at a modest, very playable framerates. So with nicely refined software like source, the lifetime of a PC is much longer than many would have you believe.

Hey Arch, when, if ever, will you 'upgrade' to Vista? Everyone, at some distant point will.
Some say if you're getting a new system in say 5-6 months, Vista won't necessarily cripple it, your thoughts?
  17. The abuse of words and "jokes" that are not funny

I think this is a fascinating topic, because seemingly an aspect of our humour in my group of friends is based on similar principles of absurdly shocking material and bad taste. I cackled at most of those baby jokes in that hideous torrent, though I was kinda surprised at some of the more brutal variations I saw.

On a random but slightly relevant note, a week dead baby was found in a handbag by a recycling worker down here, watching the report I was pretty horrified, even had a dream about making a similar discovery myself (and promptly had to change my sticky underwear) (well no actually it was quiet disturbing). The point is, I don't think it really made the jokes any less funny, admittedly though they are a little tired, as all great jokes become.

That makes me think, I often have this conversation with my friends: where next can it possibly go? Hasn't the envelope been pushed as far as possible? After this conversation there is usually silence as we wrack our brains trying to come up with a winner.
Blatant racism is pretty funny to me.

And who likes Tom Green? Or do we draw the line there?

Edit: Isn't goatse just a guy stretching his anus? Or is there more to the whole thing, possibly a horse?
And Pavlov must have been banned when I was trapped under that rock that doesn't have any internet, what exactly, or roughly did he do?
  18. Why do people sign their names after their post?

    I do not feel strongly.

    Pointlessly and redundantly,
    Randy
  19. Do you like UO? Course you do, play on this shard now. seriously,

To be honest I don't really think it's robbing anyone, if anything it's helping lift the profile of UO, maybe it'll make people consider playing on the main servers, I know I did. But in reality, it wouldn't surprise me if the main UO servers are cut loose within a few years. Understand that we're not taking anyones money, it's even very unlikely that we're poaching from a demographic that would otherwise be playing on an official server. This is a pet project, that is actually a financial burden, but its done as a homage to past ultimas and a love of UO.
See you there Tuckles! No really
  20. Do you like UO? Course you do, play on this shard now. seriously,

Put it this way, there are over 200 of these kinds of shards, we just aim to make the best.

And stuff like pks are the fun part, all the anti-social stuff like bombing public areas, eating corpses and throwing knives into peoples throats has been add/re-added.
