  1. the cruel injustice of pom_bongz

You might have better luck posting on our help forums--http://www.usacentralpom.com/forums. Our standing rule is that he who brings down the banhammer must himself lift it. If there was a TKfest going on, sometimes the admins will switch the server to reflective to stop the TKing, and we can and will get somewhat aggressive if it is deemed necessary to prevent the battle server from turning into a deathmatch server. At any rate, I would recommend that you post on our help forum to appeal, so "Bongz" will see it.
  2. {GK} The Golden Kingdom - {Recruiting}

Very good game, guys. I hope you had as much fun as we did--you all put up a heck of a siege defense that first time we attacked!
  3. Getting a player's multiplayer ID

That worked perfectly, Chadz! Thank you very much. Here I thought I'd looked through all the agent/player-related functions...

Just a side note for anyone else trying to use this function, please note that it does NOT function properly on non-dedicated servers. Instead of returning the player's unique ID, it returns 0 for a player or -1 for a 'bot (in addition to throwing a script warning). In order for this operation to work, you must use a dedicated server.
  4. Getting a player's multiplayer ID

I've been tinkering around with a server administration tool recently, but ran up against a small roadblock. In order to keep track of a player to compare them against the log files later, I'd like to get the unique, key-specific ID that's inserted into the server logs when a player joins...
  5. Who's Stalking Me?

If you want a real explanation...

I'm guessing you have an antivirus software package such as AVG (or a similar one). These packages often contain "web shields" that access links on a page just before you do, or actively scan links on the page you're viewing in search of malicious content that might lurk behind them. Since they don't log into the forums, they show up as guests--thus the source of your mysterious guest.
  6. POM Tking

Yes, we had an unfortunate TKfest by posers. We've been having several lately, unfortunately, due to a recent ban list wipe. The offending parties have been accordingly banhammer'd, and several other TKers have been banned as well.

The worst of it is, most of these idiots have the cajones to post on the "help" section of our forums, "wondering why they're banned" and asking to be unbanned. Makes it hard to separate the legitimate complaints from the morons trying to pull a fast one...
  7. Kick should be changed, in 1.130 it's useless, sign here

The kick, as it stands, is worse than useless. It's there, so you're tempted to use it--and using it now leads to an instant death on the point or edge of whatever weapon your opponent happens to have on hand. I've landed only 2 successful kicks in about 6 hours of playtime on the new version, and been killed because I tried to kick a turtling guy in a corner more than 5 times. If kick is supposed to break turtles, it fails.

Kicks absolutely need to be turnable to a range of at least 45 degrees. I'm fine with the new hitboxes and range--range has never been a huge factor in kicking ability anyway--but you should not be locked into position while kicking. If for no other reason, it simply makes kick feel awkward and contrived.

Contrary to popular belief here on the forums, kicks in 1.127 took a lot of skill to master, and still didn't net you an easy victory most of the time.
  8. Fastest Combat Speed

    RossaK 说:
After the game had went on sale there was a huge multiplayer population boom, but where did all these players go? I'll tell you, they got raped by low ping people who have an unfair advantage caused by fastest and figured the game is broken and have moved on. Stop being so selfish, Gorath. It's not about you and the person who funds your server(or PoM's) loving the spam fest, it's about the life of this game. Why should players stick around and play something where living next to a server makes you into a god? You can play CS, CS:S, TF2, Bf2, COD, and so on and so forth with widely varied pings and all compete equally. Stupid server op's will always be stupid and it's up to the developers to limit the stupid choices they can make.

Having a low ping does not make you invincible. Having a low ping, good reflexes for blocking, and a knowledge of when you can block and when you don't need to, however, does (or... not so much; the best 2-hander in the world is still vulnerable to a bolt in the gut).

All games, when they're first released, get a population boom. This is natural, since the game has gone from selling 0 copies to selling more than 0 copies. Once the population has peaked, it then declines gradually as people move on to other games. If you're talking about the forum population, the attitude generally displayed here has likely done as much or more to drive people away as fastest combat speed. Remember: correlation does not imply causation. Our server has been running fastest since the beginning, while the game was still growing, so even the correlation link is rather weak. Other servers have been running medium over the same length of time. Fastest didn't drive me away--far from it; it's part of what brought me into the game.

    RossaK 说:
I don't CARE at this point what server speed I play on, I'm invested in this issue because it's killing the game. Telling everyone who's still even around to go play elsewhere doesn't help. How do you propose we make people new to the game stick around? Allowing a person with an 18 ping be able to mindlessly spam 2h sword left/right swings while aiming down at a targets feet to rack up 22-1 in 4 rounds will drive people away. These people mowed down so quickly don't understand WHY a 2h weapon is 'that fast' even if we here know it's not a weapon speed problem it's a game speed one. Players see a broken game and players leave.

Correlation does not imply causation. Rare instances of the phenomenon you describe have occurred, but they're far less common than you indicate. I would again pose that a generally unhelpful, "in-your-face" superior attitude, when combined with a very steep learning curve for the game and the summer time period, have more to do with the gradual decline in population than fastest combat speed. Besides, I see 22-1 scores far more regularly on the medium servers I've visited than on the POM servers I frequent.

If the decrease in player population is indeed correlated with fastest combat speed, wouldn't it be just as valid for me to say that because there are fewer newbies, we feel less need to cater to them?

    RossaK 说:
And before it's pointed out there are medium servers for new people to join for the first time, it's been explained why they are not populated. POM and ATS are the largest US clans with stable servers and ventrillo servers, your clan members are the 'seeds' which populate your servers and then get others to join. Being the two 'big' clans both SHOULD setting the example of balanced combat speed but for whatever reason they have decided to use broken game settings, so those settings need to be taken away.

Why are POM and ATS the largest US clans with stable servers and Ventrilo servers? Might it be because people play on their servers a lot? And why would people play on their servers a lot of they hated the settings, instead of starting a server or moving to one of the many, many existing medium-speed US servers (located all over the US) and bringing everyone who hated the settings as much with them? It would not be that hard to do. In fact, there are many large clans that run medium-speed servers as well--DoF and GK come to mind immediately.

I know this argument will not convince you, or probably anyone else. However, I'm trying to say "be reasonable". That's all I'm asking for. If you wish to do a statistical study of the declining server population and its correlation/causation with fastest combat speed on the two populated US battle servers that run it, by all means do so. However, if you do, please use valid statistics reasoning to do so. There is no need to spend development time removing a feature when fixing said feature would be nearly as simple.
  9. My complainment! ABOUT RANGED-RAGE! Redone 2nd post with proposals.

As a crossbowman, and a rather good one if I say so myself, I can safely say... ranged weapons are not OP. If anything, they're underpowered.

Shields have invisible forcefields around them (my biggest complaint--not only do you have a forcefield, but you can aim the shield, and thus use the forcefield to your advantage). Having a shield on your back nearly halves the damage you take from getting hit in the back, even though you don't get a notification about it in MP. Test it out with a friend--you'll find it's true.

If you're talking about being able to loot bows... You can't. Only crossbows can be looted, and any class other than crossbowman has a severe accuracy penalty when attempting to use a crossbow.

Finally, bows have one crucial ability removed: they cannot open a proper dropping fire. They can aim far up into the sky (as they were often used traditionally) and fire, expecting--incorrectly--that the arrow will arc up into the sky and fall point-down among their enemies. However, arrows "time out" after several seconds of flight time, and simply disappear in midair.
  10. Fastest Combat Speed

    Alright then, I'll provide some.

    1. Removing options takes work, which takes time. Wouldn't that time be better invested fixing the existing options?
    2. Many, many people like fastest. Whatever you may say about its imbalances, many people enjoy it more than medium. Why spend effort removing a feature people like instead of simply improving it?
    3. Fastest gives people used to twitch gameplay a more engaging experience than medium.
    4. The difference in speed isn't all that tremendous; it's certainly not the black-and-white experience many make it out to be.
    5. Fastest is good for training. I and many of the people I play with occasionally visit a medium server and do far better there than we would if we didn't practice on fastest.
    6. Class specialties are better-enforced. Bowmen fire faster, horsemen thrust faster, and infantry swing faster, making each of these classes tougher to counter in their own area of expertise, but more vulnerable when forced out of it.
  11. POM - The Pomeranian Knights

The reason we put "free" in front of the servers is that someone has been spreading lies about how we charge applicants server fees. This has already cost us a couple of applicants, despite being blatantly false.
  12. Adding new maps/castles

Check the modding forums here--there are numerous topics about how to create and add new scenes to Warband. In the current incarnation of Warband, players won't be able to poll for the new maps, but you'll at least be able to use them. Adding new maps is not a trivial process, but it can be done with a little dedication and around 5 hours of work per map you wish to create.
  13. New Clan Knights of Pomerania

One last thing I'd like to state:

Our group, whether or not we change our name and banner, does not appreciate people spreading blatant lies about us. We have not, do not, and will never have an application fee, a server fee, or any other required fees. We have had no less than 3 applicants mention that someone told them that we do. Regardless of your feelings about us, this is completely dishonorable, despicable behavior. We've played nice with the haters, and most of the trolls that have been hitting our servers lately aren't banned, because they haven't violated the server rules. As always, people that violate the server rules (trolling to the extent of disrupting gameplay and TKing) have been banned.

We've told the exact truth in all its details to the best of our knowledge. Why won't people return that common courtesy?

To those of you boycotting us: I'm sorry you feel that way, but it's within your rights to do so. I'll state this again, one final time, before leaving this thread permanently: SPQR left the group he founded of his own accord, and under terms that we thought were amicable. We even offered to let him and his new group have admin rights on our servers. Instead of accepting these terms, he chose to come here and create this drama, which is bad for him, bad for us, and apparently becoming something of a spectator sport.

Can I at least have some popcorn?
  14. New Clan Knights of Pomerania

This is getting blown way, way out of proportion, I'm sorry to say. SPQR was not happy with the way members were being voted in, or with the website administration, and didn't want us to add the two new forum subsections for people to discuss the other games they're playing. I don't quite know how this makes us a multi-game, massive conglomeration as some seem to think, but that point is now moot anyway.

SPQR decided to leave, and informed us that he would be forming another small group with just his friends, using a different name and banner. We were disappointed that he wanted to leave instead of continuing in a leadership role (as it was assumed he would do), but wished him well. Everything about this was cordial and above-the-table--or so I thought, until I came here.

This is not a coup. SPQR left of his own accord, after disagreeing with the server and website administrators over changes being made to the servers and website. They weren't trying to drive him out, and they certainly weren't trying to create drama. I'm sorry to see that this is the result, but the changes that were made were made in the interest of keeping our community strong, and having fun--not just in M&B, but in the other games we all play.
  15. Map editor

Here's a post I recently threw up on the POM forums about how to make scenes: http://usacentralpom.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=573
  16. Transition

Oh, yeah—I just remembered another major issue.  What is the deal with the "override block"?  When two opponents swing in the same direction in a certain way and timing, one of them is blocked and the other goes through.  Huh?  What the hell?  I could understand if both were blocked, but why does one get blocked and the other go through?  That makes no sense at all and is also horrible gameplay.

What you call "block overriding" is actually called chamber blocking, and it's intended. When you swing at your opponent in the direction his blade is coming from, you hit his blade, knocking it away. It's rather difficult to do, and nearly impossible for humans to time correctly, but even if you manage it your enemy can still block your attack. It's a fairly high-risk maneuver, but the payoff can be great.

Some swings now have different ranges, due to the animations. Again, necessary to keep things interesting for multiplayer.

The swinging animations, in my view, are actually a great improvement, and are much more fluid than the old M&B animations. However, this may simply be personal preference. The game is generally balanced around third-person view, so that's what I stick with.
  17. Is Winrar bad for my computer?

Did you buy the game through Steam? If so, usually the folder is in "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\mount&blade warband" or something similar.
  18. Dogs of War

    Good luck from POM!
  19. Fastest Combat Speed

We've been over this several times before. The POM servers remain on fastest because that's what the playerbase we cater to wants to play on. It's not that we're trying to be "elite" or "noob 2h spammers", it's because we and the people we play with like fastest combat speed. If you've ever been on our duel server, you'll find that there are many people there who can regularly engage in epic several-minute duels on fastest combat speed. We have people from England and Finland that I know of playing on our servers, and they're able to compete well with the American players.

We actually don't get a ton of 2-handed spam on our servers, either--this is because fastest combat speed also boosts crossbow and bow reload speeds, so archers are that much more deadly to someone carrying around a 2-hander.

In short: if people want to play on medium combat speeds, do so. There's plenty of servers out there that run medium. The reason people are in our server is that they like our combat settings and our community.
  20. some huge BS

Was this a poll ban or an admin ban? If it's an admin ban, please post on our help forums with a complete description of what happened.
