  1. You like free stuff? How about free games?

Ahh..  I see.  Back to 4chan with you.

If you haven't tried out Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusades, it's awesome as hell.  That was my first trade, and I'm very happy with it..  It's a great game.
  2. You like free stuff? How about free games?

My financial situation hasn't changed.  I still make the same amount, I still have the same amount of bills.  I'm living on a strict budget, and I have some money left over after paying everything off to put into savings.  I never reversed anything.  I also never said that we're each eating 75 cents a day in food.  I said that fifteen bucks could be put towards food for the three of us that would last several days.

I've never bothered crunching the numbers, but I'd estimate that I spend roughly three dollars a day in food.  A bit more, a bit less, maybe.  I'm hardly close to starvation.  I simply know how to cook a healthy meal that doesn't involve cheese, meat, or prepackaged crap.

If I really wanted to, I could blow off a few bills, and spend the money on something else, than worry about said bills later.  I'd prefer not to.  I'd rather get them out of the way ASAP.  That's where the majority of my money goes, paying off stuff that wasn't being paid off in the past.

I never posted anything as "fact".  I stated where my money goes, and why I feel that saving money is a better prospect.

As for the trolling, I took the literal definition, the foundation of the word.  I gave a detailed explanation of how it meant what it did.  You rebuttled with a "Nuh uh.  It means this cause I said so."  Well, you win there.  I can't really provide an explanation as to why you aren't the authority on internet slang.  For all I know, you're the grand master of pwnage and 1337 5p34k.  I'm just basing my interpretation of the word after what I've found via multiple sources, and observed as commonly accepted in multiple places.

I guess you simply know better than everyone else.  I'm humbled in your majesty.

Same thing. If you can't afford a new car, it doesn't mean you physically don't have the cash, it means you could buy it but need to spend the cash on more important things.

What was it you said again? Reading comprehension?

If you say so.  Of course, by that logic, I'd never have money to put towards entertainment, since I'd always have more important things I could be spending it on.

    a) The point still stands. You were under no obligation to post your personal financial situation, and by doing so you were opening it to criticism.
    b) And if you're gonna follow that logic, you can put the time towards something more important too.  I don't see why it's that hard to understand.

Fine, criticize my finances all you want.

And thanks for reiterating what I also said.

And playing games is really being with your family.

My son sits in my lap while I play, and he also has a controller in his hands playing with that.

But that's not really the point is it?  The point was to try for a cheap stab.

    a) Finding a job would mean leaving education, which is a really great way to increase your life total of money earnt isn't it...
    b) I doubt you can survive on 3 hours a night and remain sane for long...
    c) If your money can go towards more important things, why can't your time? If it ain't more work, it could be something more constructive than gaming.

    a) No it wouldn't.  I go to school and work full time.  I also work with someone that's a full time student that works full time.
    b) Than medical professionals are wrong.  Of course, it depends on the person.  I did it for 3 months straight.
    c) I didn't say it couldn't.  But your arguing that I should be doing something other than what you're doing.  That's called hypocrisy.

It's also called a budget.  I'm meeting all my needs, and I have money left over for emergency reasons.  I'd prefer to save my money rather then spend it.

That's your opinion isn't it... Personally I never mentioned it being stupid to get games for free, I just pointed out flaws in your story about your money problems.

My story was a matter of perspective, as I stated from the very beginning.  There's no flaws.  I stated that I'd rather spend nothing than something, namely because I'd rather put my money towards more important things.  How is it flawed?

Because I'm entertaining myself instead of working more?  Your entire logical statement would be flawed for the exact same reason, since you're not doing the same.  It's pretentious as hell.

Wikipedia is a crap source for anything pop-culture because people edit it to say what they believe to be the case. The definition of "Troll" on wikipedia isn't necessarily the best definition of troll (indeed it's a crap one, since it basically defines any debate as trolling) it's just what the last person to edit thought was a good definition.

A generally accepted rule for a troll is the use of insults however, which I'll note you've used liberally.

The term troll comes from fishing.  It quite literally means to bait.

It's apparent that your intent was to bait me into this "discussion".  If that weren't so, than you never would have bothered coming back to this topic after your post, since you obviously have no interest in Goozex's offer.  The fact that you did return, and continue to do so, is very telling in your original purpose with your post.

You baited, I bit.  You trolled.  I'm a hooked fish.

Insults have nothing to do with it.

Also, frome the site description I think the games are not free, you still have to give your old games from time to time don´t you?

    Yes, and no.

There's a promotion going on where you get a trade for free.  After you get that first trade, and leave feedback, you get an additional 2 trades for free.

The limitation is that you only get the "cheap" games, ones going for 100 points.  You could also use your second two trades to get just one game at 200 points instead.  Still, the 100 point games are quite varied, and you'll easily find something you'd like.

So, potentially 3 free games, absolutely no price to you, outside of lost time (and electricity if you want to be anal).

How is bringing up the price of a computer relevant to the price of a computer game? Unless you just want to pontificate on how people ought to spend their money, it isn't.

    It isn't.

But neither were the two ever linked in this thread.

Let me break down the general route the discussion took for you:

Start: Dyre's post on his site

Follows: discussion of why these things are fishy. In which Elenmare points out that it's better to just work for the money than to wait a long time for the game.

Next: Dyre claims he can't really afford to buy games, being on a tight budget.

I never actually said that I can't afford games.  I said I have other responsibilities that take precedence over buying games.  Sure, I can go blow 50 bucks on a game, but I'd rather put that towards something more important.

I also stated why I posted about finances when I posted it, perspective.  It's why I'm willing to wait several months for a particular game instead of spending a few bucks on it.  Because I can put the actual money towards something more important, and the game doesn't cost me a single cent.

After which: While others discuss fishiness An4sh points out that despite his tight budget, Dyre can still afford to pay the bill for his electricity and have a computer.

Replied to with: Dyre's response, being that his computer is crap and that his electricity bill is actually quite low, he also mentions a half formed plan of a £300 computer somewhere along the line and mentions a heating bill. He also accuses An4sh of trolling

Then: An4sh says that what Dyre is talking about is a luxury. Also that the details about dyre's personal life are irrelevant. He also objects to being called a troll.

Upon which: Archonsod and Dyre say that an4sh is wrong. Something for free is surely better than paying for something, or nothing.

Countered by: Me, saying that that isn't the point, and that if Dyre has time to be playing games, he has time to work more for money.

Did you miss the part where I'm a father, and I have school?  I work full time, and I have to take care of my son part of the day.  I used to work 70 hours a week, but I decided that spending time with my family was more important.  Luckily, I now make about the same amount of money as I did when I was working two jobs.

Also, you're posting here, you should be working, what the **** are you doing posting here?  Go make more money!

Everyone always has something "better" they could be doing when they're entertaining themselves.  The same argument could be made against me sleeping five or six hours a night, since a human can function perfectly fine after adjusting to sleeping only three hours a night.  But the problem with that, is that it's a stupid argument, just as telling someone that they shouldn't try to relax or enjoy themselves.

I'm finding cheap ways to enjoy myself, and I'm getting **** on for that.  Don't you see how that's stupid?  The argument is retarded as hell considering the base subject of it.

After this: Dyra posts a definition of Trolling.

To which responds: Me, with odd syntax, responds that that is a bad definition of trolling anyway. And that this is a debate.

You didn't say that, you responded with the fact that Wikipedia can be edited by anyone.  That's a moot point anyways.  Wikipedia is as accurate as any other encyclopedia, and more up to date than any other encyclopedia.  But don't take my word on it:  http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4530930.stm

You also failed to provide a counter source.

And I didn't blame "everyone" of trolling, just a single person.  Reading comprehension is another virtue.

  6. You like free stuff? How about free games?

The majority of what was argued about is purely opinion based, or on the subject of semantics.  In fact, a quick scan back doesn't show anything that would actually be factual.

No one is right or wrong.  It's basically like arguing whether vanilla tastes better than chocolate.

Outside of that?  What's the consensus on who's the bigger douchebag?  The vote's still out.
  7. You like free stuff? How about free games?

The subject had absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.  But fine, I dub thee Sir Goblin.  Instead of being argumentative for the sake of being argumentative, you're now just annoying.

Also, put in a request for Arx Fatalis as well.  Sounds pretty cool, first person RPG dungeon crawler and all.  Anyone played?  Opinions?  Sounds like the downside is the length.

No, priceless is what you get from this offer I posted.

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion

Since it's not an officialized term, I guess it's up to debate on the definition.  But Wiki agrees with me.

If you prefer though, I'll call you a goblin instead.

    Update!

Despite having 12 people ahead of me in line for DW4, I just got a match!  It's due to be shipped on the 7th, and should arrive on the 10th or 11th.

Not trolling?  Is your intent here to point out flaws in my logic, start an argument?  Was there hostility?  If you say no, you're a liar.

    ----------------------

My logic is that I have an opportunity to get some games for free without spending money on them, and that I should take that opportunity.

Your logic is that I shouldn't bother with the free games, since I can go ahead and spend money on them.

I think my logic is a bit more sound.

    --------------------

And yes, I spend money on luxuries on occasion.  But I'm still cheap, and I'm still going to save money where I can.  The last game I purchased cost me 3 dollars, XIII, used, at gamestop.

Ok, let's put this in similar terms.

Option 1: Wait for seven months to get a game or....
Option 2: Get a job for 3 hours at minimum wage and you're set. Collect cans, deliver mail, whatever. 'Sides, I ain't giving my mail to anyone, not with DarkAnd out there.

Ok, let's put this into perspective:

I'm a father, and my fiance doesn't have a job.  I'm supporting myself and two others on less than 30 grand a year.  I'm paying off a car, going to school, paying rent and bills, and feeding mouths.

Sometimes my son, fiance, or I get sick, and that sets us back some more money.

While I could definitely shell out 15 bucks for a game, it hasn't been at any of the local stores recently, and I want that particular title.  Also, that 15 dollars could also feed three mouths for several days.  So each time I think about buying a game, I also think about what I could do with the same money.

'Sides, I've got a PO Box, as well as my home address.
oh, so with all of your problems you would still buy a computer that can run games decently and play on it increasing your electricity bill quite a lot I'd assume -despite- knowing that you can use that badly needed money on other more important things that aren't a mere luxury.

You mean my Dell?  My Dimension 8100 that's seven years old, and has had a broken fan since November?  I got that when I graduated from high school.  I didn't even know my fiance at the time.  Last time I played M&B was sometime last year.

So no, I wouldn't buy a computer that can run games decently.  It's definitely time for an upgrade, but that's on the backburner.  I'm looking at a figure of around 600 bucks to spend, and plan on keeping my old monitor since it still works, as well as my old video card and hard drive (can be replaced later).  Tabi's looking for a job now, and a new building just opened up here at the hospital with a large gift shop.

As for how I post in these threads?  Well, right now I'm posting from work on my lunch break.  Last night, I was on my fiance's Mac.

Despite living in a house with four bedrooms, and two other room mates (each with a computer as well), our electricity bill rarely tops 120 bucks a month.  Unfortunately, our gas bills were ridiculous over the winter.  Huge house, poor insulation, high prices on gas...  yeah, it was pretty bad.

But we're getting off topic.  This isn't a thread about how well you can fit your foot in your mouth, it's about a free promotion.  If you insist though, troll on.  Just keep it outta this thread.  You can send me private messages if you wish to know more about my personal life.

Yeah, I'd be apprehensive about anything with a serial key.

Some games, althought being up on the site, cannot be traded..  Namely MMO's or Steam purchases.  Anything on a console is good to go though.  I want a copy of Dynasty Warriors 4, but there's 11 people in front of me waiting for it, and it's been traded like 7 times in the last year.
  14. You like free stuff? How about free games?

    Your loss, on both aspects.

I found out about this game because of the community over there.  There's a general love for quality games despite dated graphics, or small name developers in those forums.  Heck, a good part of M&B's success could probably be because of them.

  18. Getting rid of "levels", all skills as proficiencies

Thinking about it a little more, it might be cool to add a point to a stat as a reward for quests, and that wouldn't be hard to implement into the current system.

i.e. Various quests would train various stats.  A diplomacy quest might train up charisma, and a quest involving the capture of a noble could train agility.  Slaughtering an army would train str.  Each completed quest could earn you a quest point (int point, str point, etc.), and a certain number of those points could add a point to the appropriate stat.

It would give a greater incentive to the quests outside of the basic monetary gain.
  19. Getting rid of "levels", all skills as proficiencies

I'd be for it.  It's a more logical sort of system in my eyes.  A few things wouldn't make much sense though, such as power strike/weapon skills, and power draw/archery/bow skill being redundant.  You could take things a bit further by training them individually depending on the hit, such as the shot difficulty adding to power draw, and "critical" hits (high damage hits) adding to power strike.
