  1. Free prisoner quest poorly done if disguised

Stab with the dagger don't swing, makes a massive difference against armored targets. Piercing rather than Cutting.
  2. "You Cheated In That Last Battle"

Well damn, that's probably what I've been doing, are all the cheats just Ctrl+something?
  3. "You Cheated In That Last Battle"

I've just had the second and final warning for apparently cheating pop up after a battle. Is there any way to disable this cheat detection? I have cheats disabled in the launcher and like the achievement system quite a bit. Would be a shame to have it locked away because of my apparent cheating...
  4. Troop placement bugged?

I had the same problem in every battle, I turned off battle formations in the camp menu and it works fine now.
  5. First Castle to get

I've just started out as my own kingdom, I took Laria to begin with and quickly after Whitestag Castle. The main reason I took these is because I'm friendly with the Noldor, they often sweep down and wipe any enemies from the field. 1/3 of the 1000+ enemies that besieged my new town were taken care of by the Noldor.

Just make sure you have a lot of money saved up especially if you start with the castle as you wont get as much income.

There's a super secret special forces maneuver that I thought I'd share with you, it's called "move to the side"  a horse moving so fast can't exactly turn on a dime. And if you moved to the side opposite of a couched lance then quite frankly there's not enough time for him to move the tip of that lance to the opposite side and position it for a lethal blow before a bayonet can stick him or his horse.

And you could always use your musket like a javelin

That's great, now you should use the super secret special forces skill of reading, and realise that the OP intended to "outfought" the charging lancer, not merely survive.

    WaffleBorn 说:
Not true to be honest, the human body is capable of a lot more than what this game allows, in other words - you have more options as to dodging and parrying a couched/thrust lance in reality than what is possible in a game

Lucky escapes aside, if half a ton of warhorse is charging at you, it really doesn't matter if the man perched atop it has a pointy stick, the horse will likely knock you out, break bones or crush you to death (and lets not forget if you stand aside, there is still the man with a long pointy stick). Baring in mind the OP seems to intend to "outfought" the lancer with his bayonet, not simply escape death.

But all this is talking about reality, and so is a non-factor.
  9. Cavalry are Rubbish

I haven't played much siege, the couple that i did play made cavalry completely pointless thanks to you know, defenses. If you seriously think that cavalry are viable indoors or in confined spaces then well, i don't even know what to say to you.
  10. Galloper Guns: The missing link to the DLC?

I like the idea a lot. If it were as simple as having a version of the current artillery train that moved much much faster than currently, that would be great. It wouldn't be imbalanced as the perfect counter for it is already in the game and somewhat wanting of a proper role to play, cavalry.

No cav player is skilled enough to reliably kill aware inf on horseback, and thus nobody with a bayonet has any grounds to whine.

I beg to differ. There are a few, and more will arise. It's actually quite easy with heavy cavalry.

I play heavy cavalry almost all the time, but it doesn't really matter what kind of cavalry you play, if the infantryman is any good at the game and knows you're coming - and its incredibly easy to know you're coming - then he will almost certainly stab your horse (And there's sweet FA you can do about this as cavalry save riding away and leaving em to it, you can block for yourself, not your horse) and as you lolslide along the floor he will stab you and kill you where you lie. Because falling off a 1/2 ton horse isn't half as bad as having one fall into you at 10+ mph, but that's mount and blade for you.

There is a certain point where the skill of the cavalryman becomes a non-factor, its all about whether the infantryman has enough sense to stab the horse at the right time rather than the rider, doesn't matter how you turn or what speed you're at, if the infantryman knows what hes doing then you're **** out of luck as cavalry and should get back to picking off all the new players while you can.
  12. Cavalry are Rubbish

The thing about cavalry is that its only effective at all against below average players or people already fighting someone (and even the latter is risky for the rider). Anyone who is good at playing infantry will easily defeat all but the absolute elite cavalry players unless they make a pretty big balls up. A good infantry player will almost always see that huge horse plodding towards them before its even anywhere near them (even more so thanks to the eyes in back of head button `), or hear the hooves thundering from behind, stab out the horse from under the rider thanks to his near perfect horse killing stick, and then stab the rider while hes on the ground.

I rarely play infantry, and while I am no Gragnok I do alright and even I see horsemen (except the ride-by gunners, which are Satan) as little more than free kills that save me the effort of having to run to them and instead bring themselves to me. It doesn't matter if they decide to try and get me from behind or the side because it takes you a miniscule amount of time to switch to stabbin' mode, spin around and deliver a fatal blow with a bayonet, the spinning round actually makes it that much more powerful so please, cavalrymen, come at me from behind, you might even think I haven't seen you. It takes less than a second to scan the entire 360 degrees around yourself for any cavalry too, you don't even have to stop moving/firing.

The effect of cavalry in a game will never properly reflect its effect in real life, there is no mass to the horse and there is no fear in the soldier, given that those two things are what most cavalry relied on or inflicted in order to be effective, something to counteract the lack of these factors in the game would be nice, (something small, I wouldn't want to see nigh invincible horses riding around one hit bumping people) be it stronger horses (as in massive health pools or a lower bump minimum speed, not bump damage) stronger horsemen or weaker infantry.

The main point i mean to put over is that most cavalry are only truly effective against inexperienced players, and as the game goes on there will be fewer and fewer inexperienced players. Don't get me wrong I accept that well played cavalry is an utter killing machine against a group of below average players (as long as they don't use that whole shooting aspect of their weapon but hey, lets forget about that for now) but are not competitive at all against good infantry players.
  13. Galloper Guns: The missing link to the DLC?

Sounds great, gives cavalry another more active role in battle as well.
  14. Question about french cav

So Those two are the same except for uniforms, and grenadiers have less health then them?

I'm pretty sure the carabiniers have a different sword.
  15. Question about french cav

My feelings from having played them, though i'm not certain. The cuirassier is average heavy cavalry with slight armor bonus, carabiniers felt like cuirassier 2.0. seemed to take more damage and deal more one hit kills out with the carabinier sword. The grenadier took the most hits and felt a lot slower on horseback, I also fared much better on foot as the grenadier, though i havent played it as much as the other two.

Again, this is all just what i felt from playing the classes in game, haven't seen any actual numbers.
  16. Cavalry are Rubbish

It would be nice if horses, possibly only medium/heavy horses could knock over enemies at much slower speeds. That's knock over, not kill, the knockdown should do very little damage so people cant just lolbump people to death. As the horses in this game are extremely easy to bring from full gallop to a dead stop by so much as a brick or man with a blunt object. I hate how the puny man with stick can stop my heavy horse from setting off by standing in front of it as he stubs it a few times before realising he has to take a step back.

Whilst its true a cavalryman SOMETIMES has a "second life" as their horse is killed and they survive, to a rider that second life is comparable to infantry having their musket taken away and being left with only the butter knife.
  17. Mount & Blade Napoleonic Wars review

So i chuckled a bit at the link to the sites name, went on it realised it was serious and noticed at the top of the page there is a review of Bibleman: A Fight for Faith and lol'd a bit more.

Anyways, didn't really reckon much to the review, don't really think its fair to criticize it being multiplayer only. it was well worded and written but i guess the weird feeling i had that i'm reading a christian game review site was a bit much.

Also had a chuckle at the morality ratings, wonder if they review any GTA games.
  18. Highlight of the day: what happened on the public-servers today?

Obviously they just got in the way.

My event for today, playing conquest I got hit off horseback by a stray cannonball, respawned and got point blanked a few seconds later and then respawned almost instantly again due to a bit of (un)lucky timing, straight into the overhead bayonet of the guy who just point blanked me.

Cavalry does indeed need a bit of a rethink as it is.

    I believe that:
    a. giving horses them a more powerful "knockdown" effect on infantry
    b. stopping horses rearing up at the smallest obstacles
    c. giving horses "mass" so that the bodies of horses killed in movement cause damage to any troops they land on.
    d. making horses that have been killed in motion continue to be mobile for a few seconds, rather than collapsing like a underbaked cake.

    Would address the problems sufficiently.

What you're probably going to get is a realism ruins gameplay anti-cav argument. Followed by a pro-infantry realism is good statement.
  20. Idea to fix cavalry

    Thokan 说:
Ever played cRPG, where horsebumping is effective and even friendly ones are enabled? It is a tank-fest and just ugly gameplay.

I never played cRPG, reeked of a steamroller game to me with no balance at all.

You say horsebumping is effective (friendly bumps can be left for another thread, isn't a big issue), do you mean it kills people often? If so that's not what I am suggesting, the main suggestion i have is that if you kill a horse that's charging you with a thrust/stab, you should be knocked over, you don't even have to be damaged at all. All this would do is prevent the thing i see so often where a lone infantryman, stabs a horse then instantly spins round and stabs the grounded rider, it doesn't seem very balanced to me as it is impossible to block for your horse and a skilled infantry player will exploit this, I've seen a single infantryman defeat four or five unskilled cavalry players attacking within seconds like this. And it really shouldn't matter how good either party is in a situation like that, one kill is fine, two is alright, but anymore than that in quick succession is a bit of an issue imo. If you're caught alone in the open and attacked by multiple cavalry you should be cut down.

Its limited realism in that the rider of a killed horse is thrown from his saddle but takes little damage and survives.
Its limited realism in that the person who stabbed the horse from under the rider be knocked down but takes little damage and survives.
