  1. Suggestions for Implementation within the Mod

    Allied bands join player battles from too far away, enemy (in particular bandits) bands dont join from far enough away.

    It is very irritating trying to hunt bandits and having lords i cant even see jumping in on my side, and irritating that bandits only ~20% of the time band together at at all. Deserters and mercs i can understand not joining.

    Realise that a two handed weapon actually uses two hands, therefore you are roughly doubling your maximum force going through the weapon. Add to that that a two handed sword would be very big and heavy if it was over 3kgs. They are more likely to be about 1.2 - 2kg. They dont actually weigh that much. Forget all that fantasy rubbish you have in your head of giant swords being swung in giant slow motion haymaker swings. Two handed swords are very quick, very versatile, very powerful weapons.

    In comparison a rapier is about 1kg, while being significantly smaller.

    Note: blah blah i know not all sword classes are the same, this is just a quick 'estimate' example/explanation of why big two handed swords are a hell of a lot faster than people think.

    +1 for cows follow player tweak being standard. I brought a herd of 40 cows and as soon as they started off in the opposite (so as soon as i started moving) direction I just cut my losses and let them run away.

    Just go to get_random_quest and start searching for  2133 2 1224979098644774938, all the instances you find should be followed directly by the number on that list. Then just find the right instance of it to edit for whichever quest you want to repeat more often and change it. This is savegame compatible.

    -edit- If you're looking for the caravan quest, the reason it isn't in the list is it doesn't have a repeat timer. If for some reason you want to add one (maybe you don't LIKE caravans, and want to limit it to once a year or something) see the bottom of this post. And by doing this, further my evil plan to take over the world! Mwahahaha.

    Hi, I believe that for Warband, the script name has changed to get_quest and the numbers to search for are now 2133 2 1224979098644774939. Perhaps someone more experienced in modding/tweaking could verify this, thanks!

    id like to know how to modify the time wait after each quest. any help for warband? anonymooses line isnt the right one.

    after you get contracted to be a mercenary for a faction, how long does it take for the contract to expire. i cant find any info about this anywhere. im sick of not being able to take any land for myself and cant figure out how to escape the employment. i nearly had an epolexy when i took a city...
  6. The Heroes?

    i have taken the comapnion conflicts out of my game and have all of the heroes, but borcha has left my party (and he was my pathfinder and tracker guy grrrr!)

    i understand he doesnt like taking heavy losses, and well neither do i - it has never happened during this play thru. but he still left. the problem is that hes gone. as in when i ask the tavern traveler if he knows where one of my friends are my character just says 'never mind'. his dialogue said somthing about buggering off to a village to make some babies or some crap. is there anyway of getting his useless abandoning behind back in my party?

    a long time ago i added some items to a crate in one of the cities, but i cant remember how i did it. ive spent the last few hours searching these forums for an answer but i cant find anything that helps. the module system tutorials are no help either. help? cheers.

  9. Ideal number of equipment slots?

    4 would be perfect IF you could stack arrows/javelins/axes/knives. especialy if your riding a horse. not such a stretch to just tie a couple of quivers to the saddle.

    A longbow can penetrate a tank. Go to point blank range, use a blowtorch to make the tank's armour melt a lot, then when there's a hole in the tank (hours later), shoot an arrow in. Voila.

    It's even easier than that.

    Shields are wood, not metal.  The only metal shields I have ever come across are the aspis of the Greeks (bronze skin over wooden body), and a few Renaissance shields.  Also, more shields are curved than flat, as it better protects the body.  This is, however, dependent on where you are in the world, and what century.

    Also, keep in mind that the shields which strap to the arm are not an active defense that you throw into the lane of attack unless absolutely necessary.  Think of them as walls that prohibit an attack against that part of your body.

    you will not that i said that some shields are curved to give better coverage rather than deflection. most were cheap boards tacked together maybe with an iron edge. dont confuse cheap with **** or crap, they were good to use, but flat is so much easyer/cheaper to make. most soldiers had to supply their own gear fro quite a while, and unless your signed up to a really rich/powerful lord he probably wouldnt bothert setting you up with a fancy shield.

    having a shield pushed under your sword arm sucks big time, and gives a good opening for a killing blow. that viking video before shows the sheild being used for this kind of stuff, its there not to defend you, but as a tool to help you win.

    yeah you CAN deflect with a shield and often it deflects even if your not trying (because things usually don't happen at right angles). shields tend to be flat, because they are easyer to make. metal shields are almost always curved, which helps deflection, but its also because a curved metal object is harder to ruin than a flat one. things like tower shields and roman legionaire shields were rounded because it made for more effective cover i.e. you are protected from more angles vs missiles.

    sure they are made to take a beating, that's why they don't break when the wind blows, but when you club the sh!t out of them with a battle axe. they arent invincible, and taking damage is just as often a good feature in a shield as it works as a cushion for the blow as well rather than the soldier having to take the full blow. two handed weapons are designed to make defense useless - maximum force. killing shields are what they are for.

    and yes a game can get that complicated, tbh its not such a stretch to think we cant implement in a game being able to stab legionnaire style with a shield up, or some combos that include defensive measures from your shield. that's like saying you cant jump, shoot, crouch and turn in a game, when we all know full well people do it all the time in counter-strike, quake etc. m&b can already differentiate between left right thrust and chop, why should there be any barrier to have a nother set of attacks when your behind the shield? sheild high-side ways chop low, over sheild thrust, block left-slash right. made even easyer of the game counted the shield as an impenetrable barrier at all times.

    2 handed axes AND hammers should still cause some damage when blocked. knockdown/stagger when blocked would be cool too, i hate smashing dues and seeing them keep going asif nothing happened. except while riding, i often have people falling down iven from 1 sabre blows (if they dont die that is). having thier shield up does seem to make them immune to falling donw unless rammed by a horse,

    yeah shields arent really for deflecting, thats what bucklers, plate armor and weapon blocks are for. shields are more for direct stoppage (if your strong enough), generally getting in your enemys way or use like a Russian martial artist (blow connects with shield = absorbing the blow with the strength on your arm and taking a step back or what ever). combat is really fluid, you actualy move around alot more in real life than what you do in game. when it comes to getting your opponent off balance, go try smashing an iron rod against a concrete pad and then tell me how your arm feels and if you'd still be able to instantly do it again with any kind of accuracy or strength. after youve thrown your weight into a blow and it fails, or wide open unless your using 2 weapons or have a shield to put in the way.

  16. build_module.bat putting things in the wrong place

    when i run build_module.bat it puts all the text files in my modules folder rathen than actualy IN my module so they end up in "E:\Games\Mount and Blade\Modules" rather than "E:\Games\Mount and Blade\Modules\Mod" the text files also have the modules name that they should be in stuck to the...

  19. 3rd person view - make it lower?

    im not normaly a 3rd person kind of guy but this game makes it ok. i mean it is still kind of a strategy game so itd be weidr for a fps/b (b for blade hehe) point of view. just my 2 cents.
