  1. Basic Siege Advice and Strategy

    Nice post.

Also I'd add to those Cav players who enjoy being "That Guy" and open the gate... make sure you only do it when there is no chance of anyone sneaking in and make sure you have a buddy shutting it behind you.
  2. KICKs. a word by developers is very appreciated :)

In 1.127 I saw combat where players kept each other in their weapon's range (with the longer range being at the advantage, but this was never too big). They had to block often and relied on feints and other forms of deception quite a bit. The kick was for catching people off guard. That really kept combat interesting and fast-paced.

What I see now is people actually swinging and missing without any attempt to hit someone at all, ie afraid to get close.
That just doesn't make sense. In 1.127, you were right to fear getting close, but now the threat of kick has been greatly reduced. So why would people be more afraid of getting in close when there's no kickslash anymore to instagib them?

I've duelled quite a lot, both now and in 1.127 (actually a lot more in 1.127, because I had more spare time then), and the difference is vast. Exactly what you describe to be an issue in 1.13x is what I saw in 1.127. One hander duels were almost nonexistant, as many duelists got so good at kicking at some point that they could lure you into a kick every single time, unless you used a long weapon. Which is why you used either a twohander/spear or pranced around frantically to avoid the LOLWINBUTTON, meaning that two blows were exchanged every ten seconds or so. At some point, it was so bad that several duelists based their entire fighting style on kickslash. These players easily got three quarters of their kills due to their feet, and that isn't even an exaggeration.

Of course, it's all a matter of playstyle. I like to play aggressively in a duel and I'm a pretty fast blocker, so I don't mind getting close to my opponent. That aggressive play was completely impossible in 1.127, something which did kind of irritate me. If you have a more footworkish playstyle, I can understand you really don't want your opponent to get too close.

So we are balancing the game based on who would win in a duel?  I like duels as well but they are only a tiny part of warband.  In most battles even in 1.127 people were sword and boarding, because if you pull out your two hander you will be quick to find an arrow in your face.  I think giving 2 handers some sort of reasonable (but not unbeatable) advantage over shields isn't unfair as by pulling it out you subject yourself to archer fire.  Don't also forget the advantage of being able to easily block multiple opponents.

    Just a thought.
  3. troop morale low?

Lots of varied food types couldn't hurt but with an army that big you still need to keep fighting.
  4. question about sieges

I think you have to wait until they assault the city and then you can jump in the battle when it starts.
  5. Final proof that devs favor shield turtles

I've got a great idea.  Let's turn this into another kick slash thread.
  6. KICKs. a word by developers is very appreciated :)

It's hard for a thread about kick to not get derailed.  It is a very touchy subject.
  7. KICKs. a word by developers is very appreciated :)

I don't want to turn this into a *****ing about IMBA thread but I will say this...

I miss you kick... come back!

It is a useless game mechanic now that only works on n00bs with absolutely no footwork.

Either me and the OP are the only ones who agree or there are a lot of sword and board fanboys who are very vocal.
  8. Mount&Blade: MMO

Never played Planetside it but the game always intrigued me.  Kinda like a shadowbane-ish game... I don't even think it would require leveling up or any RPGish stuff just kind of a sandbox (it doesn't even need to be that huge or it would spread PVP out too much) where nations war with other nations and take each other's castles.

I know in Shadowbane they had mine fights where you would fight over resource points that you had to set a 1hr window of oppurtunity on where people could come and take it each day.  Also castle fights worked similarly except the attackers would drop a bane stone near the castle and the defenders had 1 week to set a time for the siege to go live.  Then the attackers had to destroy the defenders tree of life by destroying walls and working their way to take the city while the defenders had to destroy the bane stone.

Game was a bit buggy and harsh and very cutthroat but it made for some good times and I could see someone making a warband parallel that could be interesting.

Maybe no leveling up but have stat distribution to customize your character or easy leveling up (so it doesn't become a grind fest) and then make it more gear dependent so you have to get resources etc. for your nation by capturing mines/cities?
  9. Question about Encumbrance

    fabittar 说:
Oh. Thanks for replying, but this is kind of disappointing still. It means most of my singleplayer campaigns will always aim for Plate, and if I don't it's just for the heck of it, knowing I'll be in disadvantage. :/

You aren't at a disadvantage, it's just different as Wellcraft explained.  In plate you can take more hits but in lighter armor you can backpedal and take people down with a long reach 2 hander and spread them out easier which keeps you from being surrounded.  If you get surrounded even in heavy armor you are usually dead.  On an open field I prefer lighter armors myself, though in sieges I would sometimes switch to some heavier armor if I expected a lot of arrow fire or close quarter fighting.

One thing though... if you're on cav you should wear the heaviest armor you can assuming you don't get dehorsed because I'm pretty sure there is no weight penalty on horseback.
  10. Melee Friendly fire in single player

In multiplayer, do bots do friendly fire in melee?

    No
  11. Native Is Dying?

Depends on the time/day or servers that are up.  I thought the same thing a few weeks ago but recently I haven't any trouble finding a native game.  If you're in the US area try US GK Server.  There's almost always good numbers on that server if you like siege.
  12. What is good against what, and defending against something?

    *Kick against face huggers

    Oh wait...
  13. Homemade weapons! Just want to tell you what they are.

Yeah, it's called a baseball bat.

  14. Some kind of permanent ban/kick for teamkillers ???

A permaban might be a little too powerful in the hands of random people.  I know I joined a duel server yesterday... didn't type anything (no smack talking at all)... won 2 duels (didn't have any armor/restricted weapons) against this one guy who I think thought he was good... and then he got pissed.  Since there were only 3 of us in the server, he and his friend both vote banned me and that was that.
  15. Warband Revolutionary MMO (Not like other threads give it a chance)

Your ideas remind me a lot of Shadowbane which was an incredibly player driven game.  Haven't played an mmo since because it ruined all other mmo's for me which were just a grindfest.  The focus was on taking other nations territories, fighting for resources, lots of coordination in PVP, and I haven't seen a better setup yet.  Granted the game was kinda cut throat, buggy, and harsh... and that turned a lot of people off but it was way ahead of its time.
  16. Some of my blocks arn't regestering?

Maybe you are being couched instead of thrusted?  Remember that couches cannot be parried.
  17. Reflective Damage

Its the worst aspect of MP play.  If someone is TKing intentionally they should be ID banned from the server and thats that.  No need to ruin the fun for everyone.  I notice people are a lot more cautious when they can kill team mates but can care less about entering your swing arcs if you die for it and not them.  I die countless times from people entering blind spots of swings,  and I think ive even been intentionally killed by a team mate in this way so he could loot my huscarl shield.  :\

On the Oceanic servers we have 60/40 shared damage and I think it works pretty well to avoid this sort of thing.
That would be much more tolerable than the 100% reflective that all the american servers seem to use
The problem I find with the shared damage is not so much the actual FF damage as it is that instead of one player stumbling from being hit, both you and your buddy are stumbled leaving the enemy an easy kill.  I remember this mode pissing me off a lot when I'd get hit by an ally and then we'd both stumble and have our heads cut off.

  18. Favourite melee weapon?

War spear.  Fast and can take out footmen and cav with good timing.  Also can charge at blocking shield users with a thrust followed by a kick (they usually don't back up since they have the shorter weapon) and finish them off.

That's a war spear without a shield of course...
  19. slashing while jumping -- it is ridiculous

I'm not sure why everyone is so concerned with realism in this game.  Face it... it is a game played in a world that doesn't exist.  First off going back... jump usually gets you owned.  Regardless of whether you think it is ridiculous it throws in something that you have to be prepared for and makes the game more interesting.

I have a solution to everyone's problem who is concerned with realism.  Calradia has less gravity.  QED.
  20. Does multiplayer need microphone technology?

I think it would be nice to make pub games a little more organized.  Sure you'll get the trolls but just make an easy system where if you hold tab or something everyone has a check box next to their name and if you uncheck a person it mutes them.  Shouldn't let the middle school kids ruin a chance of making games a little more teamwork oriented and enjoyable.
