1. Native Completed Kitten's Team Inspiration Tournament (K-TIT)

The match between zerg and TR will happen this Sunday at 9:00 EST. There will be no further rescheduling.
2. Native Completed Kitten's Team Inspiration Tournament (K-TIT)

We haven't been able to hold a scrim with zerg yet because of schedule issues. We tried Monday, April 11 at 8:00, but they only had one player. We rescheduled to Tuesday at 8:00, but they only had one guy who was free again. I think the best time would be sometime on the weekend, antigone told me that weekdays are bad for zerg. I don't think I'll be able to get as many players on a weekend, but hopefully enough to get this match going.
3. Warband has now become like any other fps to me.

Marmud 说:
The thing about this that is different from having too many archers or too many cav is that those 2 are a matter of circumstance while the 2-hander is a matter of skill. Even the best players can get frustrated from having too many of the formers.
While I believe that weak bows should be adjusted to be much less accurate, playing as an archer does require skills as well. The matter is if new players just find it too hard to face a skillful handler, they will switch into something that is much easier for them, and archery is the only way-out. Me, I am an archer, not novice one, but a simple archer, and from time to time it is still frustrating to enter melee and smashed easily. Eventually, this is a game far from tactics, I am sorry, it is far from being a RPG Medieval Total War. Your men do not fight in formations, thus leaving you vulnerable to archers. Is it our fault just because we wreak havoc?

The same shock goes with knights!
We are skillful, we are very powerful,... then BAM they were massacred by developed infantry and archers, they eventually lost their position, they were done!

You see this complain just too often to be surprised!
In MTW, no, archers cannot be that powerful, the mods turn them into some rubbish things
In Shogun 2, no archers cannot kill that many samurais, we have to limit their power=> Archers become a bunch of craps
It is a pleasure watching knights and Ghulams smashed infantrymen and archers

Then now in Warband, no archers cannot be that powerful, they are not allowed to be-> Pushed them out of the way, reduced them, eliminate them once for all

-> Anti-archers culture!

What is the position of 2-handed weapons like those great swords in the entire human history of warfare? According to my knowledge in China they have an equivalent called Zhanmadao and its purpose is? Chop the horse legs! What do you see here in warband is they chop our head out while we are like a bunch of useless bastarnae with our shield.

The basic form of infantry in history is a man with a shield and a stick with something made of iron attached to its head called a spear, they are the backbone of every single military machine in history, did you see them in warband? Did you see them fight coherently in this game, did you see them have the fearsome reputation that they deserve to have? NO!

You see what? A bunch of 2 handlers wandering seeking their own glory. Miak!

Now this is the most funny part:
The worst part is that the no matter which archer you go after, he'll always run away until you have to turn around, then he reloads and goes on. Anyway I handle myself pretty good at fighting mobs in melee, and i know tons of players out there who do aswell. 4 players could be either no problem, or atleast it'd be possible to take some along to hell before dying.
My gosh, we archers just do what is programmed in our nature! Should we stand there like a bunch of idiots so you can come and kill us all? There is a tactic called hit-and-run, which you simply shoot your enemy, runs, then shoot again, the purpose is probably to kill you or pull you out of your love-melee mass so cavalry can hack you. If you are not an elite archer, where are you going to run with your small athletic skill? I am even hacked to pieces when 4 guys with their one handed axes approached and smashed the hell out of my skull, and that is how it is!

When you aren't as good in melee as other specialists, they call you what in the chat-line: Noob, sucker, all those terms. Now it is our turn to let them taste our arrows instead of us tasting their steel. At least with the bow we can wipe that smirk from their faces!

What is wrong with infantry being the centerpiece of combat? All through history this was true, why cant it be true in warband? Why does warband have to be a first person shooter?

Whats wrong with making the infantry class able to handle everything thrown at it, because that is what it is expected to deal with. Not only is infantry fighting other infantry, they are doing it while being shot at by arrows, and lanced by cav. Its no fun being a punching bag for everyone elses 'fun'.
There is nothing wrong to be an elite infantry, but the age of Roman Legionary has long gone. This is an age of CAVALRY! Any culture besides Western Europe valued archery. The most famous Chinese general Yue Fei was respected for his skillful ability to shoot a heavy with left and right hands and hit a long-ranged target, even mounted! The founder of Jin dynasty Wanyan Aguda was admired by a Liao ambassador for his unsurpassing prowess in archery! Put the bow away from Genghis Khan and see if all the Mongols respect him!

A stupid cavalryman should be killed and hacked down by a group of infantry, but what's wrong if they fight coherently with repeating charge? A stupid archer expose himself to cavalry charge and drain his quiver on an infantryman's shield, he should be knocked down like a piece of rotten meat, but what's wrong if he fight decently with covers and careful movement?

Swear to god I usually find infantry disperse to fight us, or band together to be shot down, and never adapt any tactic at all!

The biggest problem I have with them is that a competant melee-fighter, whom is also a good archer, has the best of both worlds.
See this! Archers suppose to be good in melee? Perhaps elite archers should be! But a peasant archer should also be good at melee. Do you guys read a single book on the military history of any civilization? It seems that those infantrymen could pose to be elite archers after all since archery is easiest part to pick up, plus their novice skill in melee will ensure their fierceness on battlefield!

Finally!
You see this attitude being shifted in an surprising way!
I know I'm **** now. I complain about a lot of things, but this isn't a rage induced post. Even though I am angry about it. I suck in duel servers too, so I can't blame archers for sucking.

Anyways, what the **** happened, I made this as a sort of rage post and it turns into a 50 page debate

If anyone else is like me, and just hates the fact that you get killed by archers every single time you play Native, just play Vikingr with me
He concedes that it is a rage post after all! Face it! No one like to be killed in any situation, in any game, not mentioning in real life! It is called self-preservation.

You list many great things supporting archery in a historical military, but warband isn't a textbook. The main focus of warband isn't to be historically accurate. The main focus is to have fun. Are archer spam battles fun in warband? No. If you're into archer spam, go play an FPS. They are much better than warband archer battles. The real fun of warband, at least for me, comes from melee. Sure, other classes should play a role too, but I believe than infantry, and to lesser extent cavalry, should be the main focus of the game. Fighting someone up close is simply more fun than archer spam especially with the current melee combat system we have in place  If a game causes people to favor a class that ruins the fun of the game, then the game is flawed.

Mount and Blade is flawed.
4. Weapons for mounted companions

Thanks for the replies! I've decided on using swords for my companions.

My next question:

If I take away the Javs from my companions, what should I replace them with? For siege situations, swords and spears are a bit too long (at least when you're attaking. Defending is slightly different, depending on the castle and their position). If I give them axes or daggers in place of javelins, will they know when to use them?

So my companions' loadout would be:

Sword
Axe/Dagger
Hasta
5. Weapons for mounted companions

I'm having a bit of trouble deciding which weapons to use on my mounted companions. I gave Javelins and Hasta to all that could use them, but I'm having trouble deciding on weather to give them a sword or axe. I prefer axes to swords when I'm on foot, but I'm wondering if the extra range of...
6. Native Completed Kitten's Team Inspiration Tournament (K-TIT)

I need to be removed from the free agents list now that I have a team .

Also, I'm in the Eastern timezone. Don't know about the others.
7. Factions, sorted by priority in strength (my opinion).

I've recently started to value Sarranid Infantry. If I am to improve them - I would lower their Riding skill from 3 to 1, and add +2 to their Power Strike, which is currently 0... additionally, I would probably raise their hitpoints from 51 to 53.

Errr, obviously every troop has some value, but...

Sarranids have the worst infantry in the game. They're bad. I mean really, really bad. Seriously, go jump into a crowd of them wearing some decent armor and see how much damage they do.

(With damage at 100%, of course.)
8. Native Completed Kitten's Team Inspiration Tournament (K-TIT)

This looks interesting, I guess I'll be up for free agency if anyone wants to add me to their team.

Soogie; Swadia? Any really; Infantry; Eastern
9. War Bow x Strong Long Bow x Strong Khergit Bow

Im fairly certain it works the way fragonard is saying. Basically, you get a 14% bonus for each point you put in power draw, UNLESS the bow you're using has a significantly lower power draw requirement (3 or 4, i dont remember). Pretty much the same as power strike, provided you have a decent bow for your level. Also, accuracy and holding times are raised if your power draw is higher than the requirement of the bow (using a war bow when you have 6 power draw), but personally, I dont put that much weight on them. You should be fine with a high weapon proficiency most of the time, with maybe an extra point or two above the required power draw.

If I were you, I'd get the war bow. The long bow is too slow, and the khergit bow is only 3 points of speed faster. I think the extra accuracy and holding time from using a bow with lower power draw outweighs the slightly faster speed of the khergit bow.
10. Would You Rather Play This Game On Singleplay or Multiplayer?

I'll always be a singleplayer guy, but MP is where the combat system of M&B really shines.
11. Patch 1.134 out

Jarids added to the inventory of sarranid archers? Does this mean that thy will sometimes spawn with throwing weapons instead of bows?

Because if so... ugh.

I like the jarids on sarranid infantry though. It fits with their theme.
12. Those damn books

Blaze 说:
On the other hand, you could've easily dumped those skill points into leadership and fielded 20 more troops, not to mention have higher morale and pay fewer wages.

On the third hand, you could easily max out your leadership points while training a companion in tactics.
13. Knight type Character weapon advice

I usually equip my character with a balanced long arming sword, balanced long awlpike, The best Huscarl shield i can find, and a heavy military hammer for taking prisoners. I perfer long, quick swords for my mounted characters because they excel in taking out large bunches of infantry quickly. I ride up to the group, smash into the first few, and then spam overhead swings, with my knights and companions at my side to offer me cover and support. This tactic can also be used to take out large groups of cavalry that are bogged down (you couldn't really do that with a short one hander).

For taking out cavalry that are on the move, i prefer my balanced long awlpike. It's 185 reach is great, and its fast enough to be used to kite large groups of troops while continuously stabbing at them. I dont like couching, because stabs nearly always kill everything in one hit anyway and are much faster.

I personally dont really like using one-half handers and two handers from horseback. The speed and damage penalty they get turns me away from them. I want my primary weapon (my balanced long arming sword) to be quick enough to kill large groups of enemies and powerful enough to be used even when im not moving.
14. Masterwork Morningstar?

Apox 说:
Da-V-Man 说:
For anyone that cares, in sp you can get a masterwork military cleaver, which does 40c damage. Highest one-hander I think I've seen so far.

I think a Masterwork Military Cleaver sucks, I prefer a Masterwork Bastard Sword which is more fast and have a good length. And also, it have 40c damage too.

Bastard Sword gets a speed and damage penalty when used one handed with a shield though, so the military cleaver is an arguably better one handed weapon. I look at the bastard sword as being more of a short two hander that you can pull a shield out with if you need to block projectiles, or if youre being mobbed and need to retreat to safety. If you're using a bastard sword one handed most of the time, you should probably pick a different weapon.

And yeah, it's impossible for weapons to have 2 modifiers in vanilla.
