in the same vein steel is the best steel and since titanium hadn't been invented*. there is no such thing as magic meteor metal. the only exception to this is damascan steel which would be nice to see in the game.

Well actually titanium wasn't invented, its a naturally occurring metal, it was the process to smelt it that was invented.

There were plenty of cultures that used meteorites as metal for their swords since they were lacking in terrestrial iron deposits but you are right, there are no special properties for it, its just common iron and nickel mostly. Though through the smelting process carbon could be added to make it steel and hold an edge. In the East, damascus (wootz steel) was at first an unintentional byproduct of the smelting process which added layers of perlite to the steel that made the wavy grain pattern while in the West , Vikings mostly, it was called pattern welded steel and used only as a decorative element. Then in the mid ground, notably the Persians, both were used for some really outstanding looking weapons. But damascus steel is in no way superior to any other steel, just a hell of a lot prettier.

I feel like, being born in 1978, I grew up very in tune with the rise of video games. Flying my X-Wing through the Death Star trenches on the ATARI, felling foes in Golden Axe on the Genesis, getting seriously frustrated with Battletoads on the NES, and falling in love with the original M&B on my old PC. One thing I have noticed over the years is that AI is lame. Its better, don't get me wrong, but still lame.

I have begun so many SP M&B games and never once had an interest in actually finishing any of them. Why? Stupid lords besieging a castle for weeks, running off from a major campaign to go enjoy some butter, enemy lords with a whole damn army running through the apparently empty kingdom with no one to stop them just to go get your one, hard fought castle as a new fledgling lord. Its just boring, and predictable.

Then I finally moved out of the boondocks and got internet and found CRPG years ago. (Town of 64 people)  Loved it. Crazy people doing crazy things. Unpredictable. Sure there are naked 2H spam lovers running everywhere but thats some of the magic. I haven't been able to go back to SP since then. Its just too hard to get immersed into something when you know whats going to happen.

And that is why I think there is so much interest in COOP. You get the immersion of SP with the randomness of MP when someone else does something totally unexpected and bat **** loony.

Loving the game so far, crashes and unintelligible language sometimes besides, but I did notice one thing I haven't seen brought up.

In battle, after I give orders for my archers to stand ground, they won't move from that spot again during the battle even when given new commands. Sometimes the cavalry too. Infantry have no problem, they respond well.

I will say that I have to change the default settings for commands because on a MAC computer you have to press/hold fn (function) and then the corresponding F1-F12 keys to get them to work, and I don't have that many fingers! If only I had two thumbs for each hand. Don't know if this is the cause of my problems.

Cue the, "Well you shouldn't be playing a game on a MAC" responses now.

I also like the floating ships sometimes seen during naval battles, it reminds me of the movie "Yellowbeard" where he rides Bifrost to Vahalla in his warship. Wouldn't that be a battle! Fighting in the waves of a rainbow!!!

Wait a sec, I think I got movies mixed up... Erik the Viking!  Both horribly great movies by members of Monty Python and others.

If you had taken two minutes to read our posts TheGG, you would have noticed we spent hours looking at every house in that town. Well I thought I had looked at every house...

    Thanks for the help others.

There is a quest with the port master of Ribe. I am supposed to take furs to a trader in Dubh Linn named Hogni instead of paying 12,000 of the 15,000 penning that the lord of Denmark gave me. He is not there. This is for the storyline campaign. I swear I have walked all around that town and I can't find him. Anyone done this quest? It has stopped the continuation of the storyline to find Sven and my mother.

I could have paid him the 12,000 but Im cheap and wanted the money for a new boat...

This is a total noob question...

Can I download the NeoGK bundle for GK siege onto my Mac? I am used to Windows and I can't find the Program Files to copy the folder to.

It began to work on its own. I had just updated to Maverick so maybe it was just a hiccup. So far the only big bug is the crashing every now and then, but other than that, Thanks!!!    I was starting to twitch because I couldn't play Warband for the last few months, I have now satiated my bloodlust, for now. (or at least till after breakfast)

I was playing Warband multiplayer all last night on my Mac and besides a few crashes (my old Toshiba would just overheat after 10min of play so this is an improvement) was great. Though now when I try to load the game through steam it just sits there saying

Preparing to launch Mount & Blade: Warband...

    ad infinitum

    Any ideas?
