    Just a rant

Well, if it wasn't for the AI, you wouldn't be able to make such funny post reminding us about it

And yes, the AI is dumb like ...^^

M&B Warband - Game crashes as soon as I get past character making

    aimars 说:
    Specs:
Windows XP SP3, 1280Mb Ram, 2.00 Ghz Intel Pentium 4, Ati RADEON 9000 Series

What drivers you have (with that video card you should have this version - http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/radeon-prer300-xp.aspx)

Also updating/cleaning your system and re-installing the game could help

I have specs almost like yours and had only one or 2 crashes

I HAVE REALLY A BIG PROBLEM

I believe this was on bug tracker, so it's probably a Warband bug

    Next patch? Several gamebreaking bugs...

I must admit, I have not played Warband for weeks now, so the Devs have cured me of an affliction my wife calls "Warbanditus" having played M&B and it's mods, then Warband, for months. I have fixed things that have been broken for ages, including the garden fence, so a big thank you Taleworlds for leaving the game in such a state.
damn your lucky,  I still didn't manage to get to that stage (playing warband only for a month or so^^)

Actually, the new patch is ready, but they don't want to release it until it have a proper GUI. I managed to get a hold on the command line version of it. It has not pretty GUI but it does the work. I uploaded it so give it a try:

sounds like a virus (well at least - suspicious)

    Warband's VERY slow

hmm, I have P4-2,5; 1GB ram and an old Radeon 9000 with old drivers (since the new ones don't run on my graphic's cards) and it seems it's running better then on your machines, weird

    Error code spam

Anyone got a clue as to how to fix it?  Or is this another "wait until the next patch" deal?

    --Fencer

Basically - yes )) But it usually has something to do with AI parties not knowing what to do (like - when you're marshal, if you tell them you don't need their help anymore, in this case just give them any order or resign as marshal). So if you see any AI party just standing around for long time - it most likely is the source.

maybe is your graphic card to low

I'm playing this on Radeon 9000 which soon will be 9 or 10 years old ^^ trust me, his card is fine

How do you prioritise your companions choice of weapons in a battle?

I think there was something about the AI weapon choice on bugtracker, if we're lucky it will be fixed (or maybe it even is and just wait's for the next patch) and AI we'll act better in close melee ))

    Companions dissapearing for ever!

Thx for the link, now I know that in my party I can't get anyone else (and more important - I now know why^^)

I updated my graphic driver with windows (it told me it was already updated to latest version).

Not always the best idea, better to use drivers from manufacturers website (not really related to topic, but still), Windows sometimes manages to install drivers that aren't really suited for your card ))

    Attacking with movement keys

well the PS/2 keyboards have a limit that is for sure, but I have no idea how the usb keyboards are handled, so - who knows ^^

After giving it some thought from programming side of view, actually I think it could be game related, but since it's probably part of some binary file, not those easy to mod txt's, I think it's better that the dev's don't touch it (who knows what other bugs they'll create ^^)

    Family

Unless the game will make you play for 15+ ingame years I doubt that this option will be needed ))

    Attacking with movement keys

I've just noticed the same with the mouse, when I held left + right mouse buttons pressed (pressing them in any order) the right button had priority and i it always blocked ))

So many bad and illogical things in Warband.....

    Gouka 说:
Most of the tweaks in the tool are compatible with Warband, including tax inefficiency.  The tool gives you the ability to set how many centers you must own before it kicks in, and then also set the percentage of tax inefficiency.  This way you can adjust it to what you think would be more enjoyable, or even turn it off completely.  It's a very easy to use tool with many more tweaks available and has clear instructions both on what you are doing, and what the original default is if you want to return to that.  It also automatically makes backups of the original files, though you are recommended to make your own backups as well.  Hope this helps.

I forgot where the thread about it was, but just for others that try to use it - changing the battle map size results in very weird battle maps and the "continue battle after knocked out" option removes confirmation from hitting "tab" to retreat (just for people who haven't used it, so they be careful ^^)

It's just an opinion, I haven't checked this.

    So really - no ))
Did some quick searching, but didn't find any accurate info on this (but it could be a built-in keyboard feature for standard keyboards)
Would like an input from anyone mere experienced at this (It got me interested also )

    Attacking with movement keys

I actually have a feeling it's PC related, since in most games if you press 2 opposite side movement keys, one of them always has a priority (it still reads the other thou, but your movement will be in the direction of the one that has priority)

It's just an opinion, I haven't checked this.

So many bad and illogical things in Warband.....

    a) I want to agree on garrisons being only for holding till you arrive.
+ your Lords do place a descent garrison for holding out a day or two (until you can get there).
    b) The base tax inefficiency (and possibly troop wages) should be reduced down by ~20% and/or you should get 5-20% of the income of fiefs that your vassals have (maybe with it's own separate tax inef.). Also the base income of a city should be raised to 2k (I believe it's 1,5k currently and villages have 1k witch is almost the same), it is a city after all...
Another thing is when your king gives you a lot of fiefs, maybe a possibility of giving back or offering to other lords as a friendly gift/selling them/or giving them for above mentioned % of income (it is annoying that if you accept - you get tax inef. bigger then income from it and refusing it just makes it undefended for another week or longer since you might get it offered second time...).
    c) Trade can bring 5-10k income per month if your lucky, but it's mostly made for beginning not for lords with fiefs or even kings ))

I'm currently playing with a bit of tweaking
troop wages at ~85%, tax inef. at 80% and amount of fiefs with no tax inef. = 5 (+ some other non-economical tweaks) and quite happy with these settings.

P.S. I have noticed that in a city/castle that belongs to your kingdom but you haven't assigned yet you can keep troops for free (at least their upkeep doesn't show on budget report)
