    I would really prefer this stay in the feature column, for what it's worth. It is somewhat odd having your refuge 'remember' your upgrades, granted, but it is far, far too easy to accidentally destroy it and lose months of in-game work. It wasn't so long ago when it setting up camp always made a new one if you had the money.

    The Book for the Dude in Ribe?

    IIRC, if you have a high enough persuasion skill you are given the option to convince him to give it to you to save lives, with no reputation repercussions. Otherwise it's give it to me or I kill people (they hate you) or straight up pillaging.

    One thing I noticed by accident is a random monastery I pillaged along the way gave me the quest item as loot.

    So you need to be on the 'See Ships' menu of the port, then you'll see a 'My Ships' and a (wrong name but it's obvious) 'Buy Ships' tab. Click the My Ships one and then 'Next Ship' down at the bottom. For obvious reasons you need to own multiple ships.

    I'm not sure what would happen if you bought a ship, left it at Port A, then walked to Port B and bought another one. Going by the other issues, I'm guessing nothing very good.

    Interesting. I got Beserker (stated in the event message and on the character screen), and when I press T in battle I get a little message (rage and some such noise) and the screen reddens a couple times. ~10-15 seconds later I get a 'you are exhausted from all the rage' message. No shield banging.

    Increased damage or resistance? Fatigue reduction? Not a clue. I am really unimpressed with all the poorly explained mechanics in this game.

    Could you be more specific? I just ran through the 'Start New Game' option again, and I'm pretty sure there isn't any reference there. I'm not seeing any explanation in any of the in-game menus, other than just a plain list of any wounds/scars you may have (which in my case is empty). The only place I can think of that I havn't looked is the tutorial, since that seemed like the usual weapons training bit.

    Is there a manual I'm missing?

    Is there an explanation of what exactly these are, how you get them, and what they do? (Note that I'm playing the Story Campaign. Not sure if this applies to the sandbox.)     [Spoiler alert] Replayability

    From what I've seen the story campaign does a good job of providing a variety of ways for you react but tends to cleave back to the central plot, although I have heard reference to a more 'pick a side' events later on. I'm about as far in as you are.

    Examples of what I mean (some minor spoilers, tried to be vague):

    • No matter what choices you make in the first section (Fresia), the end result is largely the same. Some of the decisions might have an effect later (who you gave the land to, sparing a prisoner, etc) but at least one noble is going to hate your guts. Main differences seem to be your overall reputation and what some of the other locals think about you.
    • You get some leeway in how you complete quests, although that again mainly seems to change your reputation and relations, or let you take the occasional shortcut, rather than the overall flow (ex: retrieve a book from a monastery. Ask nicely, ask angry, kill everyone and take it, or bribe the guy who wants it and save the trip.
