  4. Pick or Axe?

    but dont forget axe breaks shields faster, and sometimes you just need to mow down massive numbers of inferior troops rather than  few high quality ones. i use a balanced great axe for just about everyone except high tier nord infantry (warrior onwards) because they have annoyingly good armor and ridiculous amounts of HP
  5. I'm getting tired of Distar Castle.

    lords take time to build ladders/siege towers to, it seems faster when you build ladder/siege tower because when you build a ladder/tower, the game speeds up and zooms the x hours or whatever it takes to build a ladder/tower.

    @edit, they also seem to get sidetracked, and have to start the whole build process again
  6. What? No! This can't be right.

    this is a ridiculously annoying bug, i had to hold off like 400 freaking rhodoks with my 20 men army, even though the garrison was like 150 people strong. also the Ai seems to be able to reinforce defenders for their castles as many times as they like, so long as they still have troops to reinforce, while you only reinforce twice max

    the only thing you can do is hope that your infantry can plug the ladder and kill all their melee units before they get swarmed, then just wait for their archers to run out of arrows and charge up that ladder one at a freaking time. all the while expecting no reinforcements.

Tried looting one headed for Ichamur, all I found was salt, some iron and various food items. Nothing that could make a profit, but then of course I am naïve regarding how M&B economy/caravans work.

    Can anyone confirm this, are there perhaps other "loopy" routes?

    its been in all the 95x version. and its really fustrating cause narra and ichamur get ludicrously rich, while all the other cities cant even get above average
  8. Shields

    heavy board shield is like carrying around a table, no missiles get through it, and  is about as unwieldy as carrying a table too.

    in melee i do not use shield, i prefer faster swing with any 2handed weapon, the best one being bastard swords. you can carry the shield to cover you from missile damage, then when you get sufficiently close enough, put it on your back and start slashing with it

    yeah i only use the edge of map exploit if i am horribly outnumbered, like facing 300+ khergits with only 50 men, however its still a tactic that works if you have small low level parties and get ambushed by steppe bandits, or just made khergits mad at you  :???:

    unfavourable battle conditions means i hope my infantry are deep enough that the first wave of lancers can only stab a few of my men, and the rest get hacked to death. and its odd, my 5+ deep infantry line will usually stop even war horses charging up a gentle hill, but when i charge AI infantry lines of a smiliar depth, unless some rhodok spearman gets a lucky pike in, my  own warhorse never stops, it just keeps going and runs them all over

    It's quite simple.  In fact, I think infantry are better than cavalry, especially when you're outnumbered.

    All you do is use hills; even a small one helps.  Archers go at the top, infantry (everyone dismounts) go at the crest, standing close together.  Your job is to weave in and amongst the enemy troops, breaking up their formation and hunting heavy hitters like those wearing lots of armor or those with dedicated ranged weapons.  Once it's all shattered, they'll keep approaching your men.  As they go up the hill (and lose speed), they'll be cut down.  Cav as well, as they've lost speed (their one and only real advantage) and have had their frontage reduced.  Once you've killed all the guys hitting your ranks, do a "short charge" down the hill to mop up any ranged guys before the next wave hits.  Works like a charm against Nords and Rhodoks especially.

    I disagree. That tactic works just fine. Are you deploying your troops on a steep enough hill? If it's a gradual hill than they'll ride
    you down. Deploy in mountainous terrain...If not possible then woods, rivers, etc.

    or you can cheat, by putting all your men right at the edge of the map, so when all the horses charge you they run into the invisible wall of 'retreat battle', then get cut down

    but yeah, infantry need some kind of formation, its just too easy to pick men off the sides of an army while other foot soldiers attempt to chase your horse, then their entire army breaks into little pockets of men that get cut down when they reach your guys a few men at a time

    If i am playing a game, then save&quit, start a new chara then press the go back button, then try to reload save slot 1 (top left most), the game crashes to desktop, its happened a few times.
  12. Improving User Interface

    the battle text definately should be smaller, its really annoying when you get long worded units like 'trained rhodok spearman killed by trained rhodok spearman', it just protrudes right to the middle of the screen and is hugely distracting, and if there is multiple instances of it, you can barely see who your chopping at.

    although the text on the world map should stay the same, or maybe have different colours for different actions like swadian related news in orange, vaegir related news in green, so on
  13. Please God, take archery out of the arena.

    theres no reason to take archery out.
    bow on horse is easy, you can just use your horse to run infantry over, deal that charge damage. its easier than trying to hit them with bow weapon and you can do it until you find something to pick up and use

    in big battles if you spawn with bow, just hang back, wait for some people to get dead, then go scavange weapons/horses. in small battles, depending on what the enemy lineup is like, you actually want them to spawn mounted troops, cause the AI isnt very good. After the initial charge, they tends to circle around you neither getting close enough to hit you, or far enough to make a proper turn, so give yourself plenty of room in the middle of the combat zone and then just spray arrows at their horses and then punch them to death usually. its only challenging when your ally is a mounted horse archer, your a foot archer, and the two guys charging you have sw/sh. 2handed guys are easy, zoom in with a headshot even with 20 archery isnt too hard

    fists dont do alot of damage, but if your not a dedicated archer character then you should have some power strike, and its usually enough to do even 3-4 damage with fists to a guy, and you can keep swinging until they get knocked out
