For that reason, I have a great deal of trouble relating to either the people who say "it's done already?" or particularly those who further complain that since he hasn't added in x feature or y feature suggested by the community then he's just ignoring his fan base (or similar crap).
Well get used to them they seem to be on a rise.
Here is my top 3 quotes:

it appers to all intents and purposes that our great hero has sold out...
Directed at Armagan because he wont release a beta before 1.0.

Moderators and dev team affiliates alike, please take notice.
Ignoring your fanbase is a very bad move.

everybody seems so happy about the increasing commercial success of m&b. i think i'm not - with the mainstream hopping up, you'll experience a rise in threads like this..
Poor him
The first two quotes are, quite obviously, absurd.
The last quote has a ring of truth to it, though probably from a direction that you have not considered. The real strength of Mount and Blade has been the fact it was small. No publishers giving orders, no marketing executives cutting content they believe would not sell.
I can assure you that Mount and Blade would never have been made if not for the fact that Armagan and Ipek were alone to start the venture. Even if the idea was given a tick, the timeline to complete the game would have created a mess, as all of us have seen with many, many promising game ideas in the past.
Is it better that Mount and Blade 2 will be in development? Quite possibly. There is also the possibility that, with a publisher, and the inevitable cry from said publisher for "Better Graphics!!" the game will be rushed out, perhaps with even less features, but better graphics. I am sure we can all agree that this has happened with many games before. See the gradual degradation of the Elder Scrolls series as a testament to this kind of thing. Other game franchises have gone a similar way, with few going in the opposite direction (More gameplay instead of a massive graphics overhaul and less 'meat on the bones').
In any case, this is all in the future and will unfold how it will. We have Mount and Blade now, to play and enjoy, and nothing can change that regardless of what happens to the franchise. As Vilhjalmr put it, with the modders at work, and I am truely in awe of many of their projects to date, the future for Mount and Blade is indeed glorious. Actually, I can hardly wait for what they will bring to the table.
