I think time has proven that man can't handle too much freedom. The first thing that usually happens is man tries to find a way to squelch someone elses' rights to benefit themselves. I personally think that the government should exist solely to prevent this, to protect people's rights.

The United States isn't a democracy. It's a republic. We don't vote on every issue, instead we pick people to vote for us. Well, technically I think that's called an indirect or representative democracy or something but either way it's not a true democracy.
