Thanks for the responses they have been helpful.
In warband, do relations with lords matter more? The swadian knights are definitely OP, but I am playing on easiest. If I up the difficulty to max, will it be more balanced? Also, Jeremus is my surgeon. Does he need to be in the battle for the surgery benefits to occur? Or can he be last in my queue.
Also, I read elsewhere that requesting castles too often loses you relations with the king. Also that if you are granted too much land, other lords can defect. Is this true in the original as well?
Relationships with Lords are important in both games, especially if you plan on rebelling/starting your own faction.
It will be more balanced, because they will take full damage. They'll still be extremely powerful, of course.
Companions do not have to actually participate in a battle at all for their skills to take effect, as long as they are in a fighting condition at the start of the battle.
Requesting fiefs does not lower your disposition, although nominating other lords raises your disposition with them.
Lords will defect/be exiled if they have a bad relationship with their liege, which is influenced by a number of things, including not getting fiefs they want, friends and family not getting what they want, losing battles, etc.
