    B Native Battle Time! - The co-op mod (v1.4 Updated 10/1/12)

    Slayman3909 说:
If anyone wants to play a game with me, just add my steam ID "Darkfyre"

I would be more than happy to assist someone's campaign or have them play my own!

I want to try this out, but unfortunatly none of my friends play warband

Steam returns more than 10 players using the name "Darkfyre"... :=)

Native Compatible Role Play server to be aired soon, info inside!

Looks nice, lookng forward to it...and to all the sticklers: READ the title:

"Native Compatible Role Play server to be aired soon, info inside!"

Just think about "Blizzard Soon" or "Valve Soon" and be happy those guys are talking about months, not years...

Limit lance effectiveness to mounted combat

    Disagree.

    1)
Yes, lances are deadly against straight forward frontal Kamikaze - riders.
Most Horsemen are killed by their own speed/stupidity, not by the lance.
Once the Lancer is dehorsed, all you have to do is to slowly circle around, increase decrease distance and bump-slash him with the horse.
It takes a while, but there is little he can do against it.
The lance is easy to block and (if you don't throw yourself onto it at full speed) does little damage.
Slow is everything you need to defeat a lancer on foot.

    2)
The Lance is a terrible melee weapon (compared to other pikes).
    Your teammates will toast him.

[S] Floris Mod Pack - v2.01 out now! - Old topic

    Thx guys,

I re-installed MBW just for this great mod.
I noticed the game crashed at "Loading settings data", when i start the mod.
(Loadingbar almost complete, after buffering textures).

For anyone else running into the same problem:
Switching on "Load textures on demand" again solved the Problem (game config menu).

Might be the fact that my computer only has 2GB Ram (WinXP).
    Anyway, great job.

[Poll] What would be your expectations for a futur extension/game of M&B W ?

    My 2-3 biggest suggestions are:

    Bot AI:
Tactical, aware of their surrounding, a more agent-like system with personal needs balanced against an overall directive depending on the tribe/commander (organized Spartans, cowardly thiefs etc...). I'm aware that this is one of the most difficult things to implement, but that would be the greatest thing ever.
If you managed to implement it, add immersion by showing the troops desire/state/intension, add communication, troops sometimes screaming commands like "form a line", "incoming cav" (SWITCH WEAPONS), "arrows now!", "shields up", "stand off" (SIEGES)... or just running away crying "ahhh, help, mum" or  simply relay and repeat your commands to soldiers far away.

UI overhaul (not before M&B2 i guess):
And by overhaul i mean: Delete the Files and redesign the whole thing from scratch.
I know the menu style interaction is probably very, very Mod-friendly and easy to grasp, but in M&B its definitely "function over form". Not good, i miss simple things like a button to (easily) browse between my companions. There are at least 30-40 little things in the UI that completely ignore even the very basic "never ever do this to the user" guidelines and add hundrets of unnecessary clicks.

I lost sooooo much time just to click up and down the stupid menu hierarchy, to a point where i simply ignore the urge to make small adjustments and save it all for a "terrible 5 minute non stop click orga session once per hour" while preparing fresh coffee anyway.

The whole thing feels like a wedding invitation written and designed in Excel. You get the point.
Some Mods add missing functionality, but just within the limits of the existing UI.

    Companion Vassals:
It seems most of the abilities, like surgeon, trainer, path finding, tactics are not taken into account when a companion becomes one of my vassals. When i sacrifice one of my worthy companions, a potential fighting juggernaut of destruction, with 150K equipment and 10 trainer, i expect him to do better than Lord "XY".

    Another annoying thing:
"Enemy AI wants you, dead or alive at all cost, cheating allowed!" Its doesnt matter if there are 10 better, tastier almost naked targets without armor 10 meters away from the enemy archers or not. I am 200 meters away on my charger, covered in full plate armor and helmed, yet the very (miili) second i lower my shield, i get 20 precision arrows in my face. Enenmy AI often focuses too much on the player, especially the archers/ranged. Maybe the Loot- or Leadership skill should tune down that attraction a little.

    Warband DLC: Would You?

    DLC is addictive like heroin.
Once used, even if its only halfway decent, speaking financially they will have use it again.
There are so many undesirable  side effects, starting value/price imba to splitting the community aso...
Most important: It ssooo tempting to do everything wrong and once the publisher gets involved everthing goes down to hell...

I like Taleworlds and B&M too much to turn it into a money whore.
    Beside, there are enough mods.

Make M&B2 instead, add coop, better AI, better/dynamic single-player-quests, more involved companions, formations, a more accessable UI, profiles for multiplayer equipment ....
Those are things i would spend money for, in short: new Features!
By nature, DLCs are new content, and more often than not fluffy, timestretched content.

    Bowmen vs Crossbowmen (MP)

    They are pretty much balanced.

Bowmen have more suppression power and, if the enemy is careless, a a potentially higher kill speed.

On the other hand, i tried some new tactics with XBow: i try not to run from (single) cavalry.
I just trigger the last possible millisecond, when they lower their shield to attack... and boy, i have a fair share of kills (1 hit) using it.
This seems to be very disturbing for Cav, some even avoid me, something you cant pull of with a bowmen.
Combine that with a shield and moderate meleepower and you have a nice allrounder (especially Swadians with their armor).

But when its serious, to the death (Battle) i would choose Bow over XBow most of the time, it just more flexible.

    Warband: The critics like.

Usually i give a lot about his opinion: honest (not sponsored) reviews.
He gave the original game a PERFECT 8/8. (link)

And he gives Warband a 5/8 (link), mostly for the 2 critical points:
    - expansion ? / price just for multiplayer.
    - bugs.

    IMHO that shows a lot.
I discovered at least 10 bugs in the first hour playing Warband, most of them could be fixed with minimum effort.
That's says a lot about Taleworlds QA, but I tell you: NO OTHER publisher/developer would get away with this.

Don't get me wrong, i love multiplayer and the game is still addictive, but that doesn't justify anything.
What really saves Singleplayer are the mods. Without them, the game is NOTHING and not enjoyable.
The Devs should not count on that for future releases.

Usually, i don't care to give 10$ more for an Indi-developer.
But honestly i, the next time Taleworlds releases a game, i will treat them like any other publisher:

    - mistrust in the first place
    - read reviews before buying
    - never buy on release day
    - wait for a special on steam (thats a lot of cash lost).

Sad, but their special bonus is used up.

I think 80  is max/reasonable for a buggy, unfinished game. Im glad critics gave it an average of 77 anyway.

What is the best sword in mount and warband?

    Max.Pain 说:
Here are my favorite weapons in sp:
1h: Balanced military cleaver. 38cut, 95length, 99speed, even a top tier troop can't survive 2 hits. Or you can use elite scimitar if you prefer longer ones.
2h: Heavy Iron hammer, Greathammer, Great long axe. These are the most intimidating weapons you can find, not just their lookings, they also have bonus  to shields or can even crush through block, especially the great hammer - I never met one can block its overhead smashing. And this made it the most powerful siege defense weapon, once smashed over 300 enemies myself in one single battle.
    1/2h: Useless.
Polearms: Balanced iron staff, high power and long reach. Hafted blade, the only polearm can be swinged on horse, large attack radius but lack of damage potential.

First, I was temped to say Hammer too, but then i was lucky enougth to re-read the title:
"What is the best sword in mount and warband?"

And yea, Balanced iron staff is underrated.

What is the best sword in mount and warband?

    1H + Shield: Singleplayer:
    Balanced Short Nordic war sword.
Speed 106 !!! and you can still thrust with it.
Low Range (85?), but who cares you have a shield and should be pushy-kicky anyway.

    1H + Shield: Multiplayer, Food:
    Short Arming Sword, Elite Scimitar,
but i prefer Axes anyway when i have a shield. Nothing to fear then.

    1H + Shield: Multiplayer, Cavalary:
Saranid long Cavalary Sword, Heavy Bastardsword (both 105 Range i think).

    2H Singleplayer:
    Ballanced Sword of War
Range 130!, good thrust damage and still very good speed
Unfortunately this one didnt make it into Multiplayer.

    2H Multiplayer:
Agains all but other 2Handers: Heavy Bastardsword.
Against other 2Handers: Great Sword or TwoHanded.

When we are at the point:
I dont get why people think "Masterwork" is better than "Balanced".
2 Speed > 2 damage by far, especially for 2 Handers, when armor penetration isnt that much of a problem ayway.

How i learned not to listen.

    diavel 说:
I think there are more annoying things. Sound quality is one of them but it's not the most important one.

Care to elaborate whats more important (except critical bugfixing) ?

When i start realising, that i play worse in other multiplayer games because i play Mount&Blade (spoils me, hehe) it starts getting more than a little annoyance. Im thinking about taking a break from Mount&blade until the stupid sound is fixed, how can it not be important, if its chasing players/clans away ?

When im at a point where i play better with mono sound or with no sounds, the devs should think about it.
Im not alone, not a single person in my friendslist disagrees.
I think this is a real problem, because its not a forgivable sporadic/temporary lack of quality (like, lets say, muddy textures or so), its omnipresent and the cause of many deaths in multiplayer. Im not asking for fancy features (like better gfx), im asking for a better basic feedback-loop and control over my character, its a missing core game mechanics.

There is a great luck factor involed and holding down the "view equipment" key cant be a permanent solution, the game is just not accurate enough to support professional tournaments in its current state.

    Please tell me:
What could possibly be more important than fixing a problem that causes you/your team to loose in multiplayer and makes people abandon an otherwise very good game ?

How i learned not to listen.

EAX is around since 1998 ?
2 or 3 ? years later EAX effects were incorporated into the DirectX Audio.
    And EAX is hardware-accelerated. <--------
I dont think it has a great impact on performance.

I can not play most games with  beefed-up graphics, but i CAN play any other game with 3D sound switched on without a noticeable effect on performance.

All i say is: please implement nowadays standards.
I would understand if a dev says: too much work, not enougt resources atm or so... but denying that its annoying and implementation is necessary (earlier or later) seems strange.

Sure. We'll just put a sign on the box saying "Deaf players not welcome" shall we?

You mean nearby those signs saying:

"Multiple  sclerosis players not welcome, must be able to operate a mouse"
    "Blind players not welcome"

    Yes please.

    Seriously.
Accessibility standards are fulfilled by ADDING helpers, not by REMOVING features. (Valve games, subtitels for any audio, not just speech).
In your case: Visual indication bar for horse sound volumes.
  18. MimiCry

How i learned not to listen.

I wear headphones, audio is a little better, but still wrong and inferior compared to all other multiplayer games i play.

    Concerning performance:
Thats what audio options are for (3D sound on/off,  every game has it).
I dont need battlesizer in multiplayer, multiplayer is the main reason i created this topic.
  19. MimiCry

How i learned not to listen.

Today, i played another FPS (blasphemy!!!) and got myself killed, because i ignored important indications: Steps, reload sounds, noise in general. I think its because M&B consistently teaches me to ignore sounds during the last few weeks.  Directional sounds in M&B are somewhat bat****. How...

    Archery sucks, shields overpowered

    Archery sucks ? No way.
    This is why:

    • suppression: 2x infantry + archer OWN 3x infantry
    • anti horse, to a point where cav cannot attack without warhorses, because the horse dies before they reach their destination or the horseman cannot lower the shields to attack
    • ban for couched lance attacks
    • ban for 2 handed weapons
    • partially prevents effective use of throwing weapons (takes longer than shooting an arrow and lowers shield)
    • 1 hit headshots, no comment
    • lucky bolts ignore weak shields
    • safe: smart archers can kill without beeing detected for some time
    • positioning: an archers threat grows exponentially in a team with several experienced archers
    • sieges ? no comment

    Shields overpowered ? No way.
    This is why:

Infantry that is aware of you should be able to

    • walk with a stoop to increase coverage
    • anticipate location of impact based on the angle of the bow (if you aim at their feet e.g.)
    • react to a sound or a long ranged shot (yes adrenaline is the keyword)

That is what the shield skill simulates and explains the invisible forcefield.
Of Course it would be nicer to see animations for each simulation instead of the magnetic thingy, but i dont care.

Best thing about playing an archer:
If you are good -> You are hated and a priority target, i love it.
