    I think I was one of the few people rooting for you guys. It could have gone either way and it was an enjoyable match to watch.

    They had a good comeback the first map half and we didn't execute properly in trying to push after the 3rd round. Got antsy about the xbow spread, and it worked right in wK's favor with their cav collapse strat. Probably should've continued trying to play for flag control and use our throwing axes on their cav, but hindsight's 20/20; easy to theorize after it's said & done.

  8. How does your native clan practice?

    Work small, find someone you can depend on and pub with that person & watch their back. I used to spend days doing nothing but following peers around and baiting him for kills. It wasn't even anything that required voice comms, just me watching his back and trusting him to watch mine by listening for his arrows to hit anything coming from his direction. That and the ol' tilde key ~.

    Something as simple as pairing up with someone you trust will build into greater macro game play as a whole across your team. I'm not saying to try to force this by pairing everyone up with each other, but for each player to make an effort when pubbing to spend some maps doing nothing but practice sticking together with a friend. That is a huge part of improving fighting as a group that translates well from a simple 2 man pairing into a group fight.

    I think we've had 2 "practices" in BkS, both an hour or so each going over the new maps added to UNAC in order to identify important locations & flag spawns. Most of what we've relied on is pub practice for map recognition & scrims to bind knowledge with experience. People that we've recruited are people that we've seen going out and using the buddy system I talked about and fighting with us; we learn about them and they about us.

    Finally, this loosely relates to practice but more to the team as a whole, don't settle for having poison pills on the team. Players that don't know how to keep their mouths shut during a match & do nothing but complain will take you down as a whole. Save it for after a match to sort out what went wrong (positively) and how to improve.

    I don't want to spend too long proofreading so some of this is rambling but I hope I got the point across. Work from the foundation up and learn how your team mates think. If we had a larger community you'd be able to do scrims every day and improve faster from that. Gotta settle for pubs though.

    A brief overview & history of heavy horses

    Swadian Charger & Sarranid War Horse are identical horses in terms of stats.

    Both have 58 armor.

    War Horse - 1224 gold, hit_points(165), body_armor(40), horse_speed(40), horse_maneuver(41), horse_charge(2:cool:

    Steppe Charger - 1400 gold, hit_points(150), body_armor(40), horse_speed(40), horse_maneuver(50), horse_charge(2:cool:

    Charger - 1811 gold, hit_points(165), body_armor(5:cool:, horse_speed(40), horse_maneuver(44), horse_charge(32)

    Sarranian War Horse - 1811 gold, hit_points(165), body_armor(5:cool:, horse_speed(40), horse_maneuver(44), horse_charge(32)

    In order to get that much armor as inf, it costs 4,738 gold (the new Khergit inf. is the only one that can reach 58 armor). These horses cost 1.8k and get ~3x as much health as players. Most anything that hits them one-handed when they're at a standstill will bounce off or glance. Anything two-handed is like chopping down a tree; it'll go down some day far in the future. The War Horse is fairly reasonable in its trade offs of speed & gold in return for armor, and the Vaegir Steppe Charger is a little overpowered with its maneuverability, but it can at least be damaged & has less hp. They could all probably do with some armor adjustment. 36-38 war horse & steppe. 44 to 48 charger & sarra.

    The Sarranid War Horse & Charger were added in shortly before the game went retail (~2 weeks) and there wasn't any reasonable time to test them out. They were tossed in out of the blue by the devs who had been largely doing SP work leading up to the last couple months before release. I think everyone was pretty confused when they were added in because we thought they were done adding to MP & that our work was done. I don't know if anyone was really interested in giving them a thorough review at the time.

    So, take those two horses out of the game and you'll see what was a pretty balanced cav setup. Well, except great lance (aka nub lance) stabbing, but that became powerful at some point that I can't remember as part of some other fix/change that they did. It used to suck for damage at the start of the stab and had a sweet spot for optimal damage. Meh, I'll stop there, another topic for another time.

    So there it is, the devs didn't balance them out because they didn't give us time to. Release was around the corner and they were lost in the hustle. /shrug

    Servers need the new Haranaer imo. The old one is verrry one-sided and it's not like we're used to playing it.

    The old Verloren has been in use for a long time, so it doesn't make sense to me to update to the new one mid tourney if it's not changing things up. If the outside tower staircase started from the top spawn side of the tower, that would probably be worth it to me. I don't like having areas with only one point of entry.

    I'm no admin though, just trying to make sure everyone has a balanced play field for the map since it's in play.

    Since these maps are in this week's map pool, it'd be nice to make sure everyone has the latest versions running on their servers. Soooo since nobody's posted a link here & just in case any server owners out there haven't, take a couple minutes and update sota's Haranaer to the updated version here: http://forums.taleworlds.com/index.php/topic,270894.msg6477762.html

    If you know a server owner, please pass this along to them as well; The changes help balance it out a bit. Also...

    I wasn't able to track down the updated Verloren. What does it change, where do we find it, and should we use it? Are we already using it?

    I'm basing all of this off of Fehnor's ENL pack (ty to him for putting that together).

    Thanks for the help Vornne, This made my day; I appreciate you taking the time to write that up. I do intend to make this server side only.

    'multiplayer_send_string_to_player' will probably help out with another problem I was running into with the respawn announcements which were client only, so thanks again for that. I was hoping that there was something like this lying around but I was just happy to have it working client-side & moved on. Too many things to learn. :razz:

    I'll probably start messing around with the naming system once I finish getting the class flag capture speeds sorted out. It's a little detail, but having names for objectives means a lot for competitors & spectators to be better aware of what's happening around the map.
  18. [UNAC S1] Livestreams & Recordings

    I caught the TMW match towards the end of the first half. You guys did a nice job of it. The cameraman did a good job keeping the main fighting on screen and the commentary was pretty good considering the rounds were one-sided.

    Anyone that hasn't, take a few minutes to sign up on Twitch and hit the stream's follow button to help support Warband. With more viewers & followers, they can potentially get a Twitch partnership which means good things for them and more exposure for Warband.
