    ah thanks

Don't build it, its useless

Well, it's not completely useless if you don't have a castle or town as you don't have to pay to stay there, which isn't that much anyway, but doesn't a manor also allow you to pay your soldiers half-pay when you're staying there?  I'm too lazy to time it even had I built a manor.  So I guess it's mostly useless, probably not worth building.

Here's my next question:  As marshall of the realm I tried to collect my forces to take a nearby castle.  I started the gather forces messages when I was at the border, and even after waiting a few days only the two nearest lords had shown up.  Is there a range for this?  Because of this lackluster turnout, I resigned the marshallship and about a week later the new marshal had most of the lords of the realm following him.  I really don't want to wait 2 weeks for every lazy lord to get off his duff and turn up.

Also, is there a way to modify how long the marshal's summons last?  4 days isn't long enough for me to hunt down the marshal, and sometimes he's had his forces reduced from fighting and he runs faster than I can.

I, personally, find these threads quite useful.  They're useful in that they specifically relate to questions about the game, not the intricacies of mods, or any of the other things people post on this whole forum for.  So, if I have a question about something like honour rating and how to increase it, I can simply search this thread for that, knowing that if I do I won't find what I did before I posted here, a bunch of mod threads that have the word 'honour' in it..

As for other games, Dwarf Fortress has one that was 60ish pages - not posts - last I checked (a while ago), and I find it useful to peruse because sometimes people ask questions I wouldn't have thought of asking.

And on top of all that, it means that people asking silly/pointless questions (but ignorant of its silliness) will ask it here, instead of having 30 threads asking how to find companions.  It's a win-win and if you don't like it, don't read it - it's one thread rather than dozens.

After you raised the honor make sure to have a good relationship with either her brother or father. Then start working on a relationship with her otherwise the dad/brother will get really pissed and won't allow you two to marry. Marrying her anyway thus making them even more pissed will result in some lose of honor.

OK, that must be it.  I keep taking all the villagers' food   And the slippery lords keep escaping.  Thanks for the help.  AND, we're at war again with the Rhodoks, which is the only faction we seem to war with.  Odd, that.

Quick question threads have been my savior in many games.

So, I've been wooing this girl, but some of the lords/bards said she's got high standards, which I think means she wants me to have a high honour rating.  How can I go about increasing it?  I'm at -4 right now, so am I completely screwed?  Should I go for a less picky lady?  I foolishly tried did some spy work and also tried to badmouth one of the other lords, so I think that's how I got so low.

Also, what's the best way to go about starting a war?  The Sultan's too peacenik, never starts any wars.  Will attacking caravans drop my honour even further?
  5. Why don't Book Merchants EVER Restock or Purge sold items................????

I've been captured before, losing my trainer/would treatment books.  It'd be nice not to have to hunt down the same party again to get my stuff back.

You really should use some ranged weapons, thrown weapons are hard to aim unless you're a bit up close.

First of all thrown weapon is ranged weapon. And dont judge it if you have no idea how to use it properly.

I think he was referring to bows or xbows.
  7. I'm so confused. What's the deal with being a rebel faction??

    Homie 说:
wait, do you ever get other lords to join your rebellion?

I didn't think so, but some of the responses made it seem like they do.

Supposedly.  I haven't run a rebellion yet, but everything I've read seems to confirm that you can get lords from the faction you're rebelling against to join you.  Though I think this requires some persuasion points (or cash).  Keep in mind, it's not your rebels, it's if you take up with a claimant.
  8. What would happen if . . .

Like widde said, if you quit your faction because you don't want to give up a castle or town you took, you can quit and keep them.  I've never just up and resigned, so I don't know what happens there.

But if you do that, you'll be a rebel and your former group will attack your castles and such, so be ready.  If you DO quit, however, you can join another faction with the land you already had.

I started out at Khergit and got upset because I never got a castle, so the next one I took, I rebelled when he didn't offer it to me, then went to the Vaegirs and allied with them, which let me keep my castle.  I ended up doing the same after taking Sargoth, and joined Swadia, keeping the two castles I'd taken and Sargoth.

It's all about playing the factions against each other.  Just make sure you know where the next king/claimant is to minimize time spent as a rebel.
