  1. SP Fantasy (Game of Thrones) A Clash of Kings (7.0 released 13th of May, 2019)

    Hello.

I am having a strange issue where, during the battles and some villages in my game I get these large blocks in the background.  Sometimes they are black, sometimes they are the same pattern / color as the custom skies or landscapes.

I have swapped back to Vanilla to see if it's just me, and Vanilla runs fine.  I've redownloaded and reinstalled the mod six times, no change.  I've seen Let's Plays and none of them seem to encounter this issue.  I've checked the version of both the mod and mount and blade and they both sync up to the latest / newest.

Any ideas on how to fix this?  It's not exactly gamebreaking, it's just.... extremely jarring and distracting lol.

I have not defended many sieges yet, but on the one I have partaken of this latest campaign, I won the battle with few losses by simply having my infantry/cavalry hold position at the top of the ladder, and picking a tower or postion along the wall with a great view of the side of the ladder and telling my crossbowmen to hold there.  It worked quite well.

What I really wanted to share was my latest tactic I have found with sieges.... in that, retreating is sometimmes the best option.  I've gone up against several sieges now, told my infantry and cavalry to make a shield wall and have my crossbowmen hold position and fire onto their walls.  I fire as well with my 30 some bolts, and when I am out (and thusly my crossbowmen are mostly out as well), I retreat and rebuild the ladders.  This has allowed me to take castles slowly with only 4-5 losses on my side and maximum on theirs.

It is, of course, only truly viable if it is a ladder siege.  Siege tower sieges are very gritty.

Wonderful job as ever Monnikje.  I find myself looking forward to ever new chapter of your story and enjoying every single read.
  3. Getting rent from Castles?

I believe that getting a castle or town but NOT automatically gaining control of it's associated villages was implemented in the latest patch.

At least, I always got the castle or town's villages as well before 1.125...... now, afterwards, I have to go through the assembly of nobles and king to get assigned either or, which generally results in a lot less for me.

Perhaps this was put in as a way to make fief assignments more fair between the player and NPC lords, voting on everything, instead of the player ending up with 3 times what the lords get?  Can anyone confirm?

On the other hand, now my castle was taken and the stupid King is giving other lords stuff but not me.  Joy for no income.  He should pay me unemployment..... or unfiefment, or something.
  4. Buy land for a profitable venture

Sorry, sorry, my bad.  I completely restarted the game, and lo and behold...... it all works now.

Haha, kinda feel like an idiot now lol.

      Sorry.
  5. Buy land for a profitable venture

      I have a question.

After reading and reading Monikje's AAR:  Me, Floris....  I have finally decided to upgrade my own play experience by both installing the Diplomacy mod..... and implement this hand lil industry feature!

I implemented the industry feature first, went into the conversation txt and changed the 1 to a 0 in that one script..... tested the feature, and it worked!

Then I instlaled the Diplomacy Mod no troubles, copied my savegames over..... went into the conversation txt and changed the exact same 1 to a 0.  It no worky.

It still works if I play my game Native, but doesn't work if I play my Diplomacy game.

The problem may be that the rest of the numbers are a bit different in that script you edit..... should I change it back to the numbers from the native?

Has anyone else gotten this to work successfully while playing Diplo?   I know you have, Monik, hehe.

Thanks for any and all help, I look forward to spreading wine across the world of Calradia!
  6. AAR: Me, Floris | Completed | Chapter 60 & Epilogue posted (19-09-2015)

  I definitely say the Nords as well.  From a strategic point of view, absorbing the Rhodoks would be unwise..... because then you would have stretched yourself much thinner, and be squeezed between two superpowers.  Noone want's to be in that position.

  If you take out the Nords while the Sarrinids are looking the other way due to your alliance, then maybe you can quickly absorb what is left of the Rhodok lands immediately after, then consolidate your power while there's only one other faction remaining.

And I've got to say, I love your AAR man.  I've actually tailored my character similar to Floris stat's wise, and have improved my own game by reading of your accomplishments on here.  Great job, keep it up!
  7. Cavalry too strong?

I'm sorry, but I've got to disagree with you on one point Kellick.  Taking cavalry around to charge in the flank actually DOES do some good on this game..... if done correctly.

When I was at war with the sarrinids, I had a force of 25 or so men at arms / knights riding with me, as well as a mix of swadian sergeants and sharpshooters.  I would have the infantry and x-bowmen line up and charge in at the foe..... because the numerically superior foe would simple form ranks on the other side of the map and wait.

In 2 instances leading my cavalry around to flank the opposing force served me well.  The first was when the opponent was situated upon the top of an incline..... yet the flank was even ground.  Having my infantry charge with shields up, and my cavalry flank and hit them from their unshielded (and un arrowed covered) flank resulted in no casualties upon my side.

The second time, my cavalry rode over the crest of a hill and used downward momentum to actually charge into the side of an enemy line.  I rode at the front of the wave, but as I looked back..... the line was no more, and the field was piled with sarrinid corpses.

So flanking CAN be effective, if only because you don't hit that shield and slow down, and because your AI actually uses lances somewhat more wisely now.
  8. Archer Character Assistance

Thanks for all the help.

I'd be very interested in knowing how that str boosted character turns out as well.
  9. War Damage

In my latest game, I was getting stomped by the Swadians, Khergits AND Sarrinids.  They'd send army after army, and finally attrition wore me out.   My question here is..... has the "War Damage" bug I've heard of before been fixed in the latest patch, so that damage you personally incur to an...
  10. -- Official Unofficial 'Ask Questions About Warband Singleplayer Here' Thread --

I would like to point out that a wall of Nordic Huscarls, told to stand ground 2 or 3 times, doesn't surrender TOO much on open ground.  Sure, your army is slower than a cavalry only one..... and sure, if you tell em to spread and charge they'll get floored.  But watching a cavalry faction stupidly charge head into your phalanx, come to a dead stop and get ripped to pieces is priceless.

I imagine that would work as well with Rhodoks, too.
  11. Archer Character Assistance

Yeah, I was thinking of riding around with a bow and arrows, bastard sword and shield on a horse..... and bow and all arrows or 2 arrows and my bastard sword in sieges.

How effective would I be if I kept Horse Archery down to 4 or 5..... keeping Agi low, 12ish.  Maybe even lowering Int enough to pump STR more?  I could put more points into Iron Flesh, Power Strike and Power Draw and pull out those big masterwork war bows?

The main use I had in mind for a bow was standing in a tower to the side of a ladder in a siege, and popping off headshots as folks slowly walked up it.  In a field battle, I imagine I'd pull off a few shots now and again, but I'd probably be charging in with my sword to assist before long.  My troops usually can't really last without me.

When you get high enough Renown, does it make up for having a lower leadership skill?  Can you eventually still lead around armies of over 100 men, without pumping leadership much at all?  That's always been my main worry.
  12. Faction economy i need help!!!!!!

I've not tested this myself, but if it is true then it may be some help or part of the answer or something.

I play my Warband over Steam and usually chat with a friend who plays it as well, and he told me that he upped the productivity of a village he owned by forcing demand upon the nearest city.  In this case, the city was Wercheg..... so he went to the village, asked the elder what they produced, then went and bought out each of those products from Wercheg and sold them elsewhere.  This raised the demand for his villages products, and supposedly raised his rents from that village the next week.

I've not been able to test this yet myself, been to busy getting curbstomped by 3 factions at once.  I also have no clue if this could be done on a city's scale..... by what, finding out the next most likely place for a caravan to visit and buying all of your cities product?  Or perhaps catching a caravan before they reach your city and buying all of your city's product so they need that more?
  13. Archer Character Assistance

I'm thinking about starting my current campaign over, and wish for a little advice on the creation of my character.   I've always gone the path of a lancer / knight before.  My characters usually used a sword and shield, lance and 2-hander on the field...... and sword and shield, siege...
  14. Strategy

I was considering trying the Nords againt next time..... I dunno, I just really like knights!

Swadians haven't declared war on EVERYONE my game.... just the Rhodoks, Nords and Khergits.  The Khergits got raped by the Swads and Sarrinids too.

I am debating.... upon dropping my lance and trying to pick up a bow the next time I play.  Late game, the lance becomes useless..... as a swipe to the face with a good two hander takes care of everything anyway.  But a bow demands more STR, so I dunno what I'd sacrifice for it....

....  How high is it recommended to pump int/cha for trainer / leadership on an archer / swordsman general char?
  15. Strategy

:P  I thought that there should be a thread dedicated solely to discussing Single Player Campaign Strategies!  So here one is!   Describe the type of character you like to play, and the general strategy you favor going with when starting a new campaign!   I'll go first.  :D  The only character...
  16. Patch 1.125 - feedback and suggestions

      Yeah it does, thanks.

What I was really wishing was to keep Lords acting smart..... ie, actually working together like they sorta do on higher difficulties..... without having the super big armies.  But I shalt settle for smaller.

      Thanks again.
  17. Patch 1.125 - feedback and suggestions

Allright, I hate to sound stupid like this..... but unfortunately, I must.

Campaign AI and Campaign Difficulty have been differentiated here..... and I've gotta know.... WHERE IS THE DIFFICULTY?!

All that is show in my options that I can see possibly altering the difficulty of the game are:  Damage to Player, Damage to Friends, Combat AI, Campaign AI, and battle size slider.

o.o  I don't see anything labeled difficulty you can set on "Hard", simply just the AI you can set on Poor, Average, or Good.  What is this difficulty setting you refer to?
  18. Patch 1.125 - feedback and suggestions

Hello there all, just wanted to add my 2 bits to this thread.

I've experienced exactly what Orange has already stated here.  On the previous versions, I've been playing with my damages set to easiest (Newb has to learn), and both AI for battle and campaign set to "Good."  I had done this because in previous versions, the AI lords seemed to run around like chickens with their heads cut off, and setting the campaign AI up seemed to help this..... a bit.

Now, I happily load up my game yesterday without realizing not one, but two new patches have occured since I last played..... and next thing I know, we lose two sieges against the Rhodoks when in each one they simply had 120 castle defenders, and we had around 300 troops worth with 3 lords participating.  Cause?  Castle suddenly stacked full of sergeants and sharpshooters instead of having a few o them and mostly trained or veteran spearmen or recruits.

Turn my back for a bit, figure.... hey, grab some more troops, some more lords, try again..... and realize that Praven is under siege by a Nordic army..... with 200 odd Huscarls in it.  Needless to say, we lost THAT one.  In my opinion, it seems that these other factions are gaining higher tier troops faster than my own now..... my Swadian lords rarely have more than 20 knights with them.  Which is better than before, true..... but when the rest of your lads are footmen, it doesn't help much against Rhodoks or Nords.

  Besides adding my experience there, I've got two questions a more experienced player may be able to answer.

First..... in previous versions my companions trainer skill stacked with my own, eventually resulting in thousands of experience being distributed throughout my army and allowing my later game characters to be able to field experienced armies much more quickly.  This game, that seems to not be the case.... it is only registering my own characters trainer skill, even when Lezalit has a skill that is higher than mine.  Also when I open the party menu, trainer does not show up at all upon the skill list on the left, despite myself, Lezalit and Alayen having points in it.

Is this the way it was supposed to be, with stacked and shared trainer from before being a bug?  Or is this a result of the dreaded savegame incompatability I've heard a bit about?  Is the trainer skill even worth putting on your companions now?

And also, for a player with a late game character out there..... we all now know that the AI Lords have a much higher chance of obtaining high tier troops from villages during recruitment.  My question is, does this also pertain to you?  I only realized in my last game that my village with 30-40 relation to me would give me militia instead of recruits..... can we now receive men at arms and knights like our lords do?

      Thanks.
