Devs Seeking Feedback on 1.15x Economy Balance

I used TweakMB to change base income levels, but I have noticed that the vast majority of villages I've visited are at max prosperity. Even after getting raided, after the village is 'rebuilt' it seems to be instantly (or possibly very quickly, before I could notice a change) returned to full prosperity.

EDIT: I actually switched back to stock income levels without remembering so that shouldn't matter.

I don't usually pay attention to prosperity at castles/towns because I've never actually owned one (is it just a massive grind to get to that point or by 200 days in should I have more than just 2 villages?). That said, I have noticed that Towns are usually at a high level of prosperity, but I'm not familiar enough with the town wealth flavor text to say for sure. What I do know was that the Vaegir town the Guild Master claimed was the 4th-poorest around still had very positive flavor text.

The biggest economy change I've noticed is that I'm having a hard time making money from trade, much more than I used to. It seems to be that bid/ask spreads blew way out, so even goods in abundance that should be cheap/don't fetch much when sold are relatively pricey to buy. With a moderate Trade skill (3 or 4), and depending on the town I visit, I used to be able to reliably get offers (if not from the first town, than generally from 1 or 2 after) for trade profits in the mid-high 100s, sometimes more. Now it's pretty rare that I see predicted profits over 60 or so, and often when I do, when I start lifting bids I drive the price way up so as to make further buying unprofitable.

So overall I think passive income is much improved, I always felt that villages were a little pathetic, but either I'm doing it wrong or trading isn't worth the time anymore.

Also it's really hard to find Furs now, the coat-making quest (not sure if this is stock or diplomacy) is now damned difficult because that ingredient is so elusive.

Taleworlds.com download issue

That's not the issue. The first link has you downloading a 340MB installer that fails integrity checks, probably because it is wrong (should be 850MB). The other two mirrors work fine, but TW should fix that link. Took me ages to figure this out because my school internet is miserable.

What's your load order? (Warband Native Mods & Tweaks)

Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to mislead. I'm not making a mod or a module, this is just supposed to be a list of mods that add a lot to Native without changing the game. Including a lot of graphical changes, etc., that aren't in any existing compilation. A lot of this is stuff you probably set up on day 1 of an M&B re-install but have probably long forgotten about... like the terrain and texture changes, I had forgotten how ugly vanilla Warband is without them

Basically I'm trying to make a list, for myself and later (after I've figured out what combos break the game, etc.) for reference, of a handful of mods/tweaks that anyone interested in playing Native should consider. Mostly for new players that are overwhelmed with the massive quantity of add-ons out there, and for old ones (like me) that have to cobble these together for a fresh install.

But for now, I just want to hear about what ya'll play with alongside Native so I can get my build set up with minimal trial-and-error. From what I recall, I was running Better Banners, a few TweakMB fixes, Diplomacy, both more horse skins, Realistic Colors, More Metal Sounds, and of course the Battle Sizer... and probably a few others I can't remember.

What's your load order? (Warband Native Mods & Tweaks)

It's been a while--maybe a year or so--since I've played Warband but watching Game of Thrones has gotten me very much interested in getting back into it. As we all know, there are a few mods which make the native singleplayer experience go from fun to truly deep and engaging. Looking around, it...

Being a merchant problem, help?

There's a lot more that goes into map speed. Namely party size, morale, inventory weight/number of pack animals, and the terrain/time-of-day. Base speed is calculated as the average of (overall average unit speed) and (speed of slowest unit). Individual unit speeds are determined by Riding skill (mounted) or Athletics skill (dismounted).

So, it stands to reason that a smaller force of higher-level units (with more points in those stats) is the best escort for a merchant player. I usually start my games by killing bandits and such with peasant armies to raise a decent amount of capital, then firing everyone, hiring a small force of mounted mercenaries, and trading around the map until I've amassed a fortune.

I recommend a small team of Mercenary Cavalry or Caravan Guards, a few cheap pack horses (shop around as you travel and buy the least-expensive ones) and a few mounted hero companions. This will give you enough speed to trade unmolested and enough fight to take on bandits occasionally to bolster morale or train up companions/make CGs into MC.

Other games like Mount and Blade?

I second the recommendation for Age of Pirates 2: Caribbean Tales. It's a great free-roaming sandbox-type game with good land and sea combat, not as cartoonish as Pirates and a lot more realistic. You should pick up the Combined Mod for it, which adds a lot of features, makes starting out less daunting, and improves playability in general. Sid Meier's Pirates is also a terrific game, I know you said you weren't into it but once you get past the gibberish language and cartoony graphics, it is a surprisingly deep and involving game.

Try X3 Terran Conflict with Albion Prelude as well, the series has never been easier to get into but it's still not for the feint-of-heart. The learning curve is near vertical but it's similar to Mount & Blade in the sense that instead of going from a lowly peasant to the ruler of an empire, you're going from a single fighter pilot into the ruler of an empire.

Finally, if you haven't played Starfarer in a while, they came out with a new alpha that adds a campaign map with multiple factions and stations for them. I can't wait to see how this game develops as it is definitely the most comparable to Mount & Blade.

For those of you looking for a graphical and enjoyable version of Dwarf Fortress, I highly recommend checking out Towns. You don't lose a ton of functionality and the controls, interface, and visuals are much easier to deal with.

Body/Leg Armor Tradeoff

This is pretty hard to verify empirically because I'm not sure where the 'legs' hitbox stops and the 'body' hitbox begins. If it's around the knee or lower thigh area, as I have suspected, leg hits are only really a concern when fighting from horseback. Otherwise, it's rare that you'll get hit there often, unless you're at the top of a hill or on a rampart. Sometimes I have seen missile hits in the leg. However, if the cut-off point is the pelvic area, where the torso part of the model starts, leg hits would be relatively common.

I tend to fight mounted most of the time, so I spend heavy on boots--I am generally not overly concerned with the leg protection offered by my main armor suit because I usually get a lot out of my greaves. In pretty much any scenario, you're getting hit a lot more in the body than in the legs, so that's usually where dollar-for-dollar (or denar-for-denar, I guess?) I want the best protection.

Well yeah, I meant what I was about to say is hard to prove...

How to get rid of Hero Prisoner when ther faction is destroyd?

Caba`drin 说:
The Diplomacy mod gives an option for you to release lords held in your prison, but without the mod the best recourse is as Sovereignity says: stick 'em in your party and they will escape sooner.

Really? I didn't know that.

I got stuck with Robber of Outlaws once and had no way to get rid of him. I ended up dismissing all of my companions and grinding my army down to nothing fighting increasingly difficult battles. When you get captured you lose your prisoners, and thats what I had to do to get rid of him.

Fugitive...

I've never seen other nobles in a village (expect while fighting them, of course) and I don't think they perform quests like that. Sometimes the murderers can be hard to find; generally they are on the back side of buildings. Also make sure if the village has any structures on its outskirts, like windmills or barns, you check behind them too because the Nervous Man will often hide there. Although sometimes I start to think the quest is bugged, I've never failed to find the guy I'm tracking town, it just takes a lot of looking sometimes.

Guild master quests, what are they for?

Guild Master relationship is also your relationship with the town as a whole. Higher relations with towns gives you a better chance of getting pushed to the next level of a tournament even if you die. You also need a minimum relationship (I think +5 or 10) to build a production workshop in a town if you're not a lord of its kingdom. I think it may affect other things but I'm not sure.

Guild Master quests can also have a variety of other useful effects like increasing town prosperity (good if you own it & collect taxes) and ending wars with other factions. In fact, in non-Diplomacy (Vanilla) Warband, these are the quickest and most effective way of ending wars, although I don't think they work properly with DM (ie you succeed the quest and the GM tells you there will be peace, but there's no truce).

Few questions bothering me

Bastard weapons always count as being wielded one-handed on horseback so there's a significant weapon speed penalty; with 1H weapons it's easier to ride through a melee swinging left and right.

Patch 1.134 out
Gameplay:
Rhodok Sharpshooters' ironflesh skill has been decreased.
Sarranid infantry & archers now have jarids added to their inventory.
Some other minor game balances.
It's going to take a lot more than that to fix Sarranid infantry. I mean, they're just plain awful... Archers are decent but their problem is that their first tier ranged unit isn't an archer, it's a javalin-wielding skirmisher: it's quite hard for them to gain experience for an upgrade to useful equipment, unless you've got high Trainer skills in your party.

I don't see the addition of jarids helping Sarranid ground-pounders that much, they're just too soft to be effective.

Patch 1.134 out

Did we skip .33? That doesn't happen much.

Any confirmation on changes to troop equipment or other SP content updates? I don't have anything really specific in mind but you never know.

Are there penalties for cheating?

Last time I cheated in a game was Age of Empires (I). I was having trouble with the campaign so I spawned a bazillion "photon men" (essentially space-suited cheat units with instant-death lasers) to beat a few missions. I also remember using Dodge Vipers with rapid-firing missile launchers.

Totally ruined the game for me. I haven't cheated since, and that was... probably over a decade ago! I don't even know how to cheat in M&B, and I don't really want to know. Looting villages almost feels like cheating anyway, money is never really a problem once that becomes an option...

Back after a lot of months - is the soldiers rebalanced after the last patches?

Most of the changes were to armor and equipment; there's a detailed changelog with the exact modifications somewhere around here...
17. BHunterSEAL

capturing lords - how long till you get the ransom?

The factions themselves with offer a ransom for their lords if they are at war with you; once the war ends the prisoners are returned. You can speed up the process by talking to your king, who will occasionally offer to buy captive enemy lords from you.

It generally takes upwards of an in-game week for factions to ransom Lords by themselves, and even then it seems to occur rather randomly.

moral issues

The report only lists active bonuses. So, for example, if you have Swadian troops but no bonuses that would affect them, you won't see a morale modifier listed because there isn't one. Conversely, the report lists all active bonuses, even those for troops that you don't currently have in your party. Bonuses come from your relationships with the troops' factions.

It's possible that having prisoners in your party from your faction or one you're not at war with can adversely affect morale. This can happen sometimes in weird circumstances, but I have no idea if that's causing the morale effect.

How do you take a castle own by "Commoners"?

I didn't have any castles, or the ability to capture them (max army of 93, no lords willing to follow me). I've actually never captured a castle singlehandedly and I've been playing since the original M&B was in beta...  I'm rubbish in dismounted melee and not much better at ranged combat.

which weapons do companions use if you give them several

Also note that there is a mod that creates a new screen allowing you to set exactly which weapons your companions will use. I'm not sure which one it is (custom commander potentially, but this is just a guess) because I've only experienced it in bigger conversion mods that happen to use it.
