  1. How do you make money?

Basically the same things King Loras said, although even after I set up all my enterprises and started collecting taxes from fiefs I still made most of my money from selling prisoners to Ransom Brokers (those dudes have some deep, deep, Jacques Cousteau pockets!).  I would take every opportunity to rescue Manhunters from bandits and train them up; I ended up with more Slaver Chiefs than I could fit in my party.
  2. Weapons Whats your favorite.

Balanced jousting lance.  I like knocking dudes out so I can ransom them.

In hindsight, a heavy long hafted spiked mace might turn out to be better for that (and I regret passing up the opportunity to get one once, because I haven't seen one since), but I am a sucker for couched lance strikes.
  3. Who is the best Ranged Troop?

One of te main downsides of Nord Veteren Archers is that that there are so few nord villages where you can recruit them.

That doesn't really matter much though when you usually don't recruit from every single village
Besides which, if you're recruiting Nords then upgrading them along the archer path is kind of a waste (unless they're already Huntsmen when you recruit them).
  4. Looking for Opinions on progress.

My capital in my current game turned out to be Veluca, with which I am pretty satisfied.  It's not too far from the center, but not so close as to attract a lot of attention.

As for what your numbers should be, I would suggest that more important than the amount in your coffers is your weekly income.  Have you established dyeworks or other productive enterprises in all of the towns yet?  Also, if you are going to go the honorable route, I would suggest getting your Honor up high enough that you can easily tell the difference between lords who like you for your Honor and those who like you for other reasons (like having done quests for them and setting them free after battles).

I agree with Sandoval that the easiest way to start your own faction is to accumulate some towns and castles as a vassal of another faction, and then rebel when your monarch doesn't give you a fief that you captured.  The best time to do this is when they are already at war with more than one other faction.
  5. Bug? : all Fiefless lords not betray their king.

Yeah, for lords with honorable personalities to switch sides, you generally have to wait for them to be indicted for treason, or to have some other problem with their liege (e.g. being uncomfortable with his choice of companions).

Does anyone happen to know how long you can go without gaining any Renown before you start to lose some?

So in Diplomacy, you need to land a companion before you can marry them, right?
Yes, you have to make them a lord first by granting them a fief.
  7. Have you tried to own a Kingdom...

I am currently playing a game with only "honorable" lords in my faction (there is only one left whom I can't seem to persuade to defect).  I started out with some others, but gave them only villages because I knew that they would eventually defect after I gave enough fiefs to other vassals.

It actually makes things pretty easy in terms of managing the kingdom.  Nobody complains when I assign fiefs to anyone anymore, I never have to worry about holding feasts (which would be problematic as a female character whose husband is constantly faction-jumping), and I can count on most of them to show up when I start a campaign.  And enough lords have left Calradia by now that the ones I have constitute about 1/3 of the remainder, with 4 opposing factions left.

Another thing that makes it easier is, when a non-honorable lord defects or gets indicted for treason and tries to join my faction, I just leave them in my throne room without talking to them.  This effectively keeps them out of play indefinitely, at least until my throne room gets too full and I have to reject some of them just to make room for one whom I actually want to accept.
  8. What's your favorite Bandit?

Sea raiders are my favorite to fight, both for the xp/loot/ransom value and for the goofy things they say when you encounter them.  The devs just seem to have put more effort into the sea raiders than into any other bandit type.

For prisoners freed from enemy lords, I prefer looters because you have some choice in their upgrade path.  They can eventually become Swadian Knights or Rhodok Sharpshooters!
  9. Does a higher tactics skill penalize your potential battle renown?

Unfortunately, the calculation of the renown value for a battle is a really hard thing to determine because of all the variables.  I think someone will have to spend some serious time with an editor to figure out how everything affects it.  But in my experience, it is true that troop levels are a factor in renown value.  I think that it also scales up with the power of both armies, even if the ratio between them doesn't change (e.g., 50 vs. 100 will get you more renown than 25 vs. 50).  As for having an inverse relationship with tactics, I'm not sure; that would be one of the hardest things to determine without an editor.  I could see it going either way, though.

I will let you know if I find out anything else about it!

In the morning trade turns change, recruits wait at villages etc.
But this happen to be too early for lords, noons are 100% safe.
Oh, they reset at noon regardless of what time you talked to them the previous day?  I thought it had to be at least 24 hours from when you talked to them last, so like if it was Late Afternoon when you talked to them the previous day, I figured they wouldn't be ready again yet at noon.  But if they all just reset at noon, that makes things much easier.

You will lose some faction points in freeing enemies during prison breaks, not your own prisoners.
Ah, interesting.  I had assumed that freeing enemies (especially an enemy king) from anywhere would cause my vassals concern.  But if that's not the case, then I guess it's not such a big deal.
  12. How are you playing your game?

I'm still on my first playthrough, which was started as a male noble on all the easiest settings (was apparently the default in the demo, when I started the game), and I'm playing it as a boring old honorable guy who eventually became king of his own faction, which now occupies the northern 2/3 of the continent and is at peace with the remaining 3 factions.

Now that I have a better idea of how things work, next time I think I will try it as a female commoner in the Diplomacy mod with realistic saving and slightly higher difficulty settings, but probably still honorable.  I might even try to conquer the whole continent without getting married.

Yes, absolutely; I thought this had already been covered in the King Guide section, but a reminder never hurts.

I actually try to wait slightly longer than 24 hours between each round of greetings, just to make sure I don't talk to them again too soon and waste my chance to get the relations bonus until the next day.  I don't know for sure if this precaution is necessary, but I do it anyway just to be on the safe side.
  14. A singleplayer manual

A note regarding throwing feasts as king/marshal of your own faction:

If you've got more lords trying to attend your feast than will actually fit in your castle, and want to get rid of the higher-relation lords to make room for the ones you really need to talk to, just send them on a task to patrol around a far-away town (or a closer town, if you want to see them again in the near future).  When you exit to the town menu and come back to the castle, the higher-relation lords will already have left for their task, and the next lords down the list will now be there for you to talk to.  Repeat as necessary until all of the lords in your castle are ones you want to continue raising relations with, or until ladies start showing up (indicating that there are no more lords in the queue).

Also, try to make sure that the lords whose relations you need to raise only have fiefs relatively close to your capital, because in my experience they will leave every so often to check in at their home, and you want them to return to the feast as quickly as possible.

Right, that's what I thought, which is why I want to have that dialogue option while he's still my prisoner.  Then, when peace is declared, he would be automatically freed along with all the other prisoners of that faction.

It's a bad idea to try to tell everyone what they want to hear--the AI is designed to catch on to that.  Best to stick to one, or at most two, answers.
I know, I was just going to stick to the non-contradictory ones for the honorable personalities, since the other personalities should be easier to recruit even with a non-ideal answer (as their relations with their monarch will probably not be as high).  And according to what Tripida said, it sounds like my suspicions were mostly correct as far as that goes.

I'm a little surprised about the answer for Martial personalities, though; I would have thought they would prefer the opposite (uniting the lands by force).

Actually you can ask king for truce if You free him personally with key, right after that(and get +5 relations with good lords instantly when doing that with them).
You mean I have to use the "I'm breaking you out of here" option?  I always assumed that would have negative repercussions with my faction (or at least the owner of the place where the prison is) if I did that.  :???: And the point is that I want to be able to sue for peace in exchange for his freedom and keep holding him if he refuses, not risk setting him free and then having him refuse peace.

When you're trying to recruit good-natured/upstanding/martial lords to your faction, and they ask why they should support you, which answer does each of the personality types prefer?  My guesses would be good-natured->"rights of the people," upstanding->"by law I should be king," and martial->"I will unify Calradia," but I haven't had an opportunity to test these hypotheses since I came up with them.

Would it be possible to add the dialog options to ask an enemy king for a truce, or talk to a lord about joining your faction, when you talk to them as prisoners in your dungeon?  I always thought it was kind of silly that you couldn't do that.
