  1. Dhirm defence is so hard

no issues with Dhirim, i once just leveled up my Xbow and Bow skills while letting the AI handle the rest. My def force consist of either Hurscarls, Knights or Rhodok sergeant and rhodok sharpshooters , vaegir marksmen. Never actually had to worry about it as long as you formed your infantry a decent line infront of the tower opening point. All i hear in the background is the arrggh oowww etc and just practice my ranged.

  2. One issue of Note with Aubrey De Vere

hmmmm i want to dress them into women now, buy those pink frilly dresses and let the chamberlain auto equip
  3. about rhodoks, again (for TW)

you can change it yourself, as the above poster pointed out, u can mod the rhodoks so they can like fly with their underwear on the outside wearing a cape and shoot laser beams as well. It is pretty easy. Just tweak it to out u like it, single player is single player and it is up to you.
  4. 300/Sparta Mod

if anything i just want to have a kick that is as epic as Leonidas ..spaaaartaaaaaa *kick*
  5. Archers vs. Crossbowmen

    lord_Nelson 说:
Since medieval warfare is not for woman, of course you have to walk a long rout to upgrade peasant woman into sword sister, but you can use sword sister as a medium troop who can fight well in melee and ranged combat. And beside, I would prefer to have 200 sword sisters protecting the city where i have my wife than 100 knights.

nothing will be more tragic than your wife preferring all those women.

tried that once, gather some Slaver chefs and just rode around hunting for Bandits who had taken female peasants as prisoner. Unfortunately they are quite fragile ( compared to Swadian Knights ) and invariably get killed quite easily, i did reach about 100 or so sword sisters.
  6. What do you like/dislike about this game?

    Likes

    Sandbox gameplay
Riding around chopping hacking slashing bashing heads is super fun

    Dislikes

Poor endgame due to weak AI and diplomacy.
Punished for being successful ie Tax inefficiency , Rep loss to fief assignment
    Random Headshot death from Xbows
Engine could do some work, super steep hills etc.
Economy completely random and makes little sense.

  7. Making the most of being marshall

invariably, the first thing i do as marshall unless it is defending, is smash the Rhodoks, or the Swadians cos they are in the way of the getting to the Rhodoks. You will want as many men on your side when u take on the horde of headshot Sharpshooters and wading thru the sea of green shields and hammers .

after you wiped out the Rhodok faction and have all the swadians gone, then the rest of Calradia is easy. Hell, everything is easy when you have a 150 odd swadian Knights riding with you.
  8. Best City/Castle Garrison

actually my strat is simple, leave your closest castle / town the least defended. I know its exploiting a weak AI but that is my strat. What i do i leave the closest castle with 50 odd men, , it does not matter who or what they are, so the cheapest is fine. The other towns i own i will chuck anything from 75 -150 men, against the cheapest of whatever is available.

you will find that straight like an arrow, your least defended castle will be the one they target, which happens to be the closest to you. You ride back, crush that 1400 man army at the walls and then repeat etc ...

    yeah yeah cheap human player!

  9. Raising Vassal's Relation when you own a kingdom?

do not worry about it. You honestly do not need them. Just pick 2-3 of them of the highest renown and keep giving fiefs between them, the rest u can kick out. End of the day, its pretty much up to you to win the game, the vassals are just fodder. Won a 3rd campaign as a solo Lord in the entire kingdom . Everyone else was imprisoned or left Calradia.
  10. Rhodok Sergeants are near invincible

you could recruit your own rhodoks to handle them, just make sure u got enough varied food and leadership to handle the morale loss

  11. Anyway tried Catalyst 10.8 with Warband yet?

steam version of warband. Using 10.9. No texture issues. 4870x2 card.

  12. Proposing several changes related to lord recruitment

i sorta given up on it tbh.

if u recruit a lord, u have to keep him happy which means alot of feasting or riding around buying ale, wine or oil , time i find better spent killing my enemies.

So either u placate him for minimal support, or u dont which means he leaves your faction taking his fiefs with him or u end up kicking him out. So its better not bother at all !

on my 3rd campaign on highest difficulty atm, i just ignore the lords who come looking to join, its pointless to recruit them as you do not need them for your Kingdom at all, Am looking forward to be the solo King of all of Calradia, every other lord is either imprisoned or left !

  13. Rhodok Sergeants are near invincible

any Heavy Cavalry ( Marmalukes, Knights , Lancers ) will crush any amount of Rhodoks in open field. Just avoid steep hills etc

what u will find is castle sieges is toughest against massed Sergeants and Sharpshooters. The Rhodok Sharpshooters are without doubt the strongest castle defenders easily headshotting and mowing down plenty of your troops unless u do something about it.
  14. This is how it was meant to be? Really?

It is imho, the biggest weakness of the game in the end game.

Essentially, the game does not want a winner, you the player HAS to go out and win it for yourself or your faction.

You can see it too, you go out conquer half the map, wipe out half the other factions and what happens? Most of your lords leave your faction ! Due to the loss of rep from awarding fiefs etc. In my current game, i spend most of my time placating my Lords and the other half shopping for stuff so i can gift lords to keep the rep up. Eventually i know i will just go, screw this and just let them leave my faction and then imprison the whole lot of them.

they are quite useless anyway, my main rival has 3 times the lords but without fiefs they are pathetic small groups of 20-40 mens whom i can mow down en mass . And those are all either jumping from 1 faction to another or simply disappearing from Calradia. The arbitary loss of rep in fief awarding just means that as King i just don't award the fiefs out. That way everyone remains happy and who cares if the enemy retake the fief, it takes them so long to do so, u can ride behind take 3 times the fiefs and return to defend the undefended fief.

sadly i suspect this is meant to be, i am hoping for a mod that fixes these issues and provides a challenging end game.

fact is 1. the AI is dumb regarding onfield strat
    2. the game punishes you for being successful ie tax inefficiency, rep loss from fief awards etc
    3. you can win the game at the hardest difficulty with just yourself and 250 odd top tier troops.

  15. So how do I secede from a kingdom and make my own?

at this point in game u cannot just rebel like that.

As a sworn vassal you have 3 choices
    1. Get your vassal-ship shifted to another "rightful" claimant. Ie u locate the Claimant to your current faction , swear vassalship to him/her. Now u can then say sorry but things are too tough and quit, resulting in the claimant leaving Calradia and you with your own kingdom. A gutless way of doing things but it works.

    2. Get your vassal-ship revoked. Conquer a fief/town/castle and ask for it. If he refuses you can legitimately claim sufferance and rebel ,keeping the castle as well as all your current properties. However there has been many cases where he keeps giving u everything and u end up having to defend all of them on your own...

    3. Quit being a vassal. In this case u quit and then u need negative relations with the faction u are attacking. Then u can pick the fief u want and attack it. U need negative rep tho, a simply raze a village or caravan belonging to that faction will do it. Essentially this is the Raubritter method, where Rabber Barons of Germany used to claim areas under their control during the dark ages etc.
  16. Cavalry Overpowered.

i gotten my game to this point as well, the horrible accuracy of the archers increases this as well. I can happily ride across a line of archers and never worry of getting hit, doing the same in native would result in me getting randomly 1-2 shot in the head by a Rhodok sharpshooter.

the AI does tend to hire alot of archers, which on the open field means the cavalry just mow them down like scythe thru wheat. Like the op i did the same, making most of my army cavalry simply to increase travel time.

  17. odd strat but true?

100% sure i am playing the 1.131 version as i am using steam which seems to update everything, same with the Diplomacy version 3.11?

i do get a rep hit when i assign a fief to myself. I cannot retrieve them, once u leave the manage garrison screen it does not appear and u can only change the garrison after u assigned the fief back to yourself.
  18. Economics Management as a Vassal

i been trying to actually affect the prosperity of my cities, assigning all the feeder cities around to me and guarding it zealously as well as doing all the rep gains .

nada. No difference whatsoever. I could not increase the prosperity of my city. I can tried feeding it stuff from other places, ie i would talk to the GM and then go out and buy all the stuff they have shortages on.

Nope, even tho i protected all the caravans coming in ( within reason, the caravans i can see coming in or leaving ) it did not change /shrug

i must be doing something wrong.
  19. odd strat but true?

no u do not pay for the troops garrisoned there, essentially u can stick all your expensive troops there as guards but never have to pay for it as long as you do not assign it to YOURSELF. Tho of course u cannot retrieve them.

But that is not the point as u spend more trying to fix the rep losses from assigning fiefs and if u give it to yourself everyone else hates you as well , plus u get some free troops every time u decline to assign the fief immediately ie u get something like 40 basic recruits and tier 1 stuff . U can then just chuck in 100 odd defenders and take the 40 out. Your rep goes up ( from sharing plunder ) , your Lords do not lose anything and they do not need the income, ie they magically regen their troops from a single fief and u get a bunch of fiefs who have free defenders .

  20. odd strat but true?

As King i spend all my time doing 3 things 1. shopping for ale, oil and wine 2. feasting ( tho i had to apply the hall less lords behavior fix) 3. not assigning fiefs. i figured out that the best way to retain my current lords is not to accept anymore and not to give anyone anymore fiefs...
