So I guess it's park that campaign and walk away until the public patch is out...(not on steam)

Okay, trying to update again - Somehow despite not buying it until after 1.03 was out and DL'ing the latest install, it somehow says on the credits screen 1.02...and it lets me inside the usual castle layout, nothing special

...and yet again, doh...I thought 1.03 was the latest officially released patch...not a beta? Apparently 1.02 is all they point you to on the DL page

So, I leave Bjorn's camp to take his message to his brothers....only Snottingaham is owned by Gwynedd and there seems to no way to continue the storyline!

    Feedback and commentary

I'm playing the latest version - done a couple more games and that part hasn't changed. Looking for vikings in England is like looking for Samurai  I'm closing out the first year as a Mercian lord and there hasn't been a single incursion of any strength by the Norse. Every now and then a single warband makes it over a loots a village or two until it is cornered and wiped out...after 2-3 of those the norse kingdom in question gives up and there is a truce a few weeks later tops. Even the neutral faction 'vikings' are so weak that they really don't even provide a useful 'leveling up' target, not worth the time to hunt down bands of 4-10 vikings after the month or so...

Might try the storyline again, but only might...not sure what the point of it is...clearly you have no option but to be an enemy of the Ragnarrsons

    Feedback and commentary

I said I wasn't going to rant about the bugs or unfinished parts  I ranted about entirely different things!
Also, I play with the stamina/armor penalties...which makes those personal fights a lot harder.

    Feedback and commentary

First off, unlike some I am willing to patient and wait for fixes...so this isn't a rant about bugs or some unfinished bits. I played Brytenwalda a fair bit, so I knew going in that I was going to have some issues with game choices by the dev team...but: The storyline campaign feels like a...

[DOWNLOAD] Prophesy of Pendor [v3.9.5 IS NOW OUT!!!]

Sounds wonderful, now if it could only get hosted someplace I can actually access?
Nexus there is just horrid, it was a pain to use before and it seems even worse now. I cannot log in, recover my PW for it or even find a way to complain to them about it!

(edit) Eventually got in, but that has to be one of the most annoying systems I have dealt with recently!
More gushing to follow, but you made my week with this release!

Let's give your own review for you favorite faction

Okay, I haven't played in a while but here are my various faction likes (and dislikes) in a very short form
Based more on pure feel and fun than anything. I've played every faction multiple times for many hundreds of days and never had any real problem doing well with any of them either strategically or in a tactical battle.

Sarleon - fun to play, love the feeling of starting surrounded; their elite troops always seemed a little under-powered to me but at least they all looked good
Ravenstern - hands down my favorite faction, my biggest problem is purely of of geography...the inland sea and no boats is a major PITA
Fierdsvain - always seemed a little OP to me, a little too like playing on easy to make them do really well; ridiculously slow horses...
Empire - sorry but I cannot stop laughing at the bad faux-romans on horses, elites with pila horribly OP but their whole army is just fugly
D'Shar - never liked them; they do well enough but they don't really seem to 'fit' with the others visually or culturally (It's like you have the french, english, vikings, psuedo romans and then suddenly Mongols...with no Poles or Germans in between)

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord Old Discussion Thread

My excitement is dampened by wondering what direction it will go in though...
As I see it, there are very nearly three different versions of M&B players out there already.
The online 'duelists' / battleground aficionados; The quest / story folks (Pendor, Fire and Sword and others) and the conquest/expansion folks (Native expansion, Brytenwalda etc)

Personally, while I enjoy the occasional romp in the battlegrounds I am far more interested in changes to the engine which make for better single player campaigns, economic/strategic sim elements and the story/role playing political elements. So if this ends up being more battleground stuff I really won't care much...but I can hope.

    Caravan fights seem very odd

It's that first one - took me a moment as it looks nicer from that angle

    Some ideas:
Move the player spawn to their right (subjective left from that screenshot) so that they are further from the defenders at start and don't have to deal with the rocks/stream to their left.

Start the defenders downhill further (at or beyond the caravan) so they can't charge into you before you even get ranks sorted.

Delete the stream coming down the hill and some combination of the rocks/trees such that the AI formations don't get so disrupted trying to form up at the start.

I think any of those might change it enough to be more playable. As is, I'd rather be ambushed by the caravan than fight on that map

    Caravan fights seem very odd

The starting deployment for the caravan attack scene really needs to be changed. It is more than a bit silly that you start totally disorganized trying to attack the caravan through thick woods with other obstacles. Combined with the odd formation adjustments the AI does, it makes the battle...

    Army upkeep is anti-fun

As something of a tangent: I realize this is a somewhat radical idea, but if the focus is to be on better reflecting a realistic pattern of recruitment/training then why not decouple upkeep and upgrade costs? A veteran warrior would likely be given the same stipend from his lord regardless of exact gear - we're centuries before any kind of standardization of gear and the minimum expectations were pretty vague.

So have two upgrade paths - a very expensive armored one with costs in line with buying the armor for the upgrade and a second much cheaper path but both with the same upkeep costs/skills/levels. (It's not going as far as some; I know there is/was a 1930s era Chinese civil war mod that had you building guns and such for upgrades!)

Of course with lower costs you could do away with the businesses or modify them into something else...

    Map expansion

Not that I have the talent, but for expansion purposes there might be something to be said for having a couple of 'design an XX' contests for inclusion in the mod? I seem to recall several mods for the original M&B that had a fair bit of luck with just asking for community submitted settlements. Especially since NE is closely based on the 'main' game and not trying for a specific historical or fantasy setting with a precise graphical feel to it.

OK, did the prince of Mierce happen to be the last person you had a dialog with? I think I spot the problem, but want to confirm.

Yes and I was able to replicate a similar experience....it doesn't happen every time though so it may be based on how long since the conversation?

    Army upkeep is anti-fun

    andristan 说:
Actually the evidence for England of the next couple of centuries, (till the 9th century, before the major viking attacks) the early saxon and angle lords did have random plots of land scattered throughout the territory of their overall kingdom/cultural sway. During those same centuries the major mode of war was the petty kings riding around fighting and winning the right to the rent of various plots of land/fiefs.
The Inheritance of Rome by Chris Wickham is my main source for dark age britain economics
I'll have to track down the source and give it a read, thanks. I'm not sure that I am willing to accept it as a separate mechanic from fiefs as already present in the game though...and it still really doesn't cover the whole mercantile empire of businesses thing either.

    Army upkeep is anti-fun

I'll agree that at present the recruitment/upkeep costs are rather out of line with the mercenary payments/fief income and even to some degree battle loot income. I don't mind the higher upgrade costs and slower times, but there does seem to be a gap compared to income.

(To be clear - you can easily compensate for this over time if you build up property/businesses; however I don't think that is especially accurate. I don't think a saxon lord was really supporting his troops from land scattered over a bunch of neighboring city areas and breweries/wineries all over England)
