    Anyone use a polearm/pike based character?

    I played rhodok to begin with, only using their units and using xbow/pike(or spear). It did seem to work fairly well, as long as you take some sort of ground advantage. The problem came with saranid mamalukes, who seemed to become the medieval equivelant of a challenger II tank, and khergit horse archers due to the fact the rhodok crossbowmen being completely useless with their chosen weapons.

    Pretty odd considering you would expect spearmen to be most effective against cavalry, turns out though, they aren't. Probably because they seem to enjoy using their butterknife and cheeseboard much more often, which to be fair, turned out to be my preferance as well.

    Does anyone else find the courtship process kind of boring?

    I married my character off to Lady Nadha of Khergit Khanate. Easy enough to get her married to my character, her father wants to marry her off and so long as you're a warrior she's easy to get. I had relationship of '20' when she married my character. I thought, with her being a fighty sort of woman (the bard says she prefers hunting & fighting), that she'd come along with me and fight alongside me (ala 'The Wedding Dance' mod), but no, she sat in the castle.
    Took so long just to get the relationship to 20, to just have to ride across Calradia for a single point...that was annoying enough, I'd have hated it if I'd gone for one of the females who requires a high relationship & very high honour/renown.

    I had this after I gave up on helping Lady Isolla, It ended after a while although I think that may have been due to me losing all of my fiefs.

    I'm definitely interested, although I shall have to read through all of your post later on when I have more time. At the moment the day will end in disaster if I spend too much time reading posts, I have an awful lot of notes to type up    :sad:

    Lances in Warband

    As for the Swadian tournaments, I had the same problem as you for a while. I found a partial solution though, if you hold back and allow the NPC's to group up you have a relatively large target to aim your lance at. You can also take one out at the start, as quite often one or two will charge you.

    Would be nice to have a proper jousting tournement though, with the fence in the middle.

    Several Combat Questions

    Mount & Blade is based around the era when cavalry were the war machines of the battlefield, hence the title. The time that pikemen were more widely used, around the time of gunpowder experimentation, the cavalry charge become a much less reckoning force. So in conclusion, if you want walls of pikes; the title will have to be changed.

    Companions Captured?

    Do they still show up in "Prisoners" when you mouse over the place? I'm off now, hope someone else can help. If not submit a bug report or something, then pray  :wink: Sorry, I know the bugs can be frustrating. I've learnt to live with them.

    Does buying supplies from a town increase prosperity?

    I've always found the village and town prosperity to be a bit of a black spot in M&B, would be nice to finally get some good info on how it works and how to improve it. *Hint* *Hint* to any devs who decide to read this  :roll:

    Warband combat

    To be honest, I would like to see everything slowed down an awful lot in multiplayer. It would be interesting to see a slower multiplayer, in movement speed and attack speed... Although to be honest, it's mainly me trying to compensate for my crappy internet connection and mid-low range PC.  :wink:

    Companions Captured?

    I think I've heard that there is a bug when taking cities with companions inside. Lords don't seem to have the same trouble, but companions just don't want to leave their... cozy cells. I think someone said their companions actually disappeared on taking the city though, so you're lucky in that respect.

    Try letting them retake Halmar, then sneak in, demand the key from prison guard (and kill him, inevitably), then talk to your companions and escape. After that you can go ahead and retake Halmar if you like, they won't have much of a garrison.

    That's a good analogy, too much Sid Meir's and Wilbur Smith on my part though I believe. That's effectively what being contracted on this game is like, you don't do much different to usual but you do it in the name of someone else so that you're not as responsible, pass the buck onto King Harlaus (or whoever else)  :roll:

    I havn't really noticed, I rarely help those silly peasants.

    Although I think I was doing a cattle herding quest for one village, and picked up a quest from the village I purchased said cattle from once. I wouldn't swear to it though.

    I'll check for you in a sec and make sure it isn't a bug in your game, if nobody else replies.

    I swear that if I lose in a tournament stage I still end up going onto the next round, I always put it down to my team.

    Although I didn't ever think to try and use commands with them, doh!

    Don't think it matters what your relations are with your wife, they are still only useful for feasts.

    Occasionally she gives me one of those "advance our standings" quests, although they seem to be years apart and the resolve a dispute type have had bug issues where you can't complete them and lose RtR.

    If you did watch them all in a row, you'll be pleased to know you're not alone. I did the same, it was a long day of square eyes, popcorn and excessive drinking.

    0-255 is one type of damage (cut,pierce or blunt), 256-511 is another (subtract 255 to get the actual value), and 512-768 is the third (subtract 512).  Don't remember which is which though.

    Think it's cut, then pierce, then blunt as far as I'm aware.
