    Leveling companions quickly

I've been playing this game forever, but I've never had luck getting my companions to level. I'm going to try a new strategy, to keep my army tiny, focus on getting them high end equipment and try and level their combat skills before anything else. Anyone have tips? Can a small band of...

    Tips on productive enterprises

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but this comes up when you're searching for "Warband profitable enterprise." I think ROI or return on investment only counts when interest is compounding. When you get 8% back from a stock per year and the dividend is reinvested. The best investment in the case is the highest number, so you may get 6.3% back on 3,500 denars, but 4.2% return on 10,000 denars is more per week and will be the better investment.

I don't think it's ever a good idea to raid villages.  It's lots of money and the food is really useful on campaign, but later on you're going to need to recruit troops, the faster the better.  Buy some food, spare the villages, make your money off fighting.

I don't think (I'm not sure about this really) that you should ever take lords hostage.  Even if they hate you for letting them go, you get honor for it which means you're increasing your relationship with all the honorable lords.

I don't think taking those tax-collector missions is a good idea (especially in villages, but not in cities either).  It sounds great particularly because there's no time limit on giving the money to the Lord, but negative relations aren't cool.  Everything you sell in that city for the rest of the game is going to make a few less coins; everything you buy costs a few more.  In the long run, you're losing money not making it.

I only raid factions I don't use, Get plenty of honor from all the lords I release, over 100. You have to do the tax collector quest to make a business there, then you have to do one quest with the guild master to get your reputation back up, that is the cattle quest.

    Tired of managing the lords

I have played Mount and Blade a long time, I got Warband the day it came out. I am just getting to owning a kingdom. I was bored with it but after a long break I'm enjoying it again. During peace time hardly any one shows up to my feasts. The feast bugs 50% of the time, ending instantly, even...

    A singleplayer manual

Just some advice for people. Trading isn't as profitable as capturing prisoners. Manhunters are pretty easy to get. If you give practice lances and blunts to your companions they will level fast and get you a lot of prisoners. With 5 prisoner management I can capture 25 enemies in 1-2 fights with a few manhunter type troops and my companions. The problem with trading is that is boring, does not level you and if you buy too much, it is hard to sell. 25 sea raiders nets you more than 2500 denars plus the goods you keep or sell. The only downside is searching for ransom brokers.

Trading also passes in game time, if it is faster in real world time to get money, lords and kings are still leveling while you are not. While manhhunting makes you much richer and higher level in a much shorter in-game time.

Immediately start building businesses. High end armor can wait, just get a good weapon and scavenge what you can for your party. Getting a business in every city within 100 days makes you very rich down the road. Some lords will hate you right away, no helping that. It is worth it to do some quests for him before you join a faction and get him to like you. For me it is always tax collecting on the city you want to build in. That drops your rep with the city but nets you a nice profit. The city almost always made me deliver cattle across the map, which just sucks but is worth it to get that income.

When there is no one to hunt, do quests for towns you want to recruit in. Spread it out a bit, ether among your chosen faction or multi-faction if you want have diverse troops. Having 20+ reputation with a town defiantly helps make recruiting easy.

Find a few low-honor lords that will hate you if you let them go in battle. Remember who they are and always capture them for money. Raid their towns as well. You don't care what they think and it raises your right to rule. Don't take companions that protest too much, you can get 5k plus food off of raiding a town.

Ibdeles castle is probably the easiest to defend. If you fill it with archers, the 5 minutes that it takes for the siege tower to get to the wall should be enough to decimate the enemy. Also, Rhodoks sergeants carry blunts, so if you use them, you can use the blunts command and dominate even an enemy army. Top tier troops go for over 200 denars each.

    Jarl bug

There has been a war going constantly, but there has been breaks in the campaigns. Jarl Knudarr is constantly going back to his castle but never getting more troops. I've just never seen them get that low. Rhodoks just made peace but we have been at war with Swadia forever.

    Jarl bug

It seems the majority of Lords on the Nord side are bugged, they do not resupply men. Our marshal, Jarl Knudarr is down to 3 troops leading the campaign. Last campaign he had 7 troops. When I joined the faction he had over 100. The whole marching force of Nords is on Average about 25 men each...

Also, I am a mercenary for the Nords, my plan was to stay a mercenary until I get high enough, then leave with my positive reputation and take over the Vaegirs. If I plan to attack the Vaegirs, I obviously need reputation with the lords to try and win them over. Would being a Nord vassel hurt me in any way?
As long as you are playing Warband 1.126 or higher you can start businesses in all cities. Talk to the Guild Masters for details.

To become a King, you must form your own faction.  You cannot replace King Yaroglek as King of the Vaegirs, although if you take over all Vaegir cities and castles, the effect will be the same but it will be called whatever you have chosen for your faction name, not Vaegirs.

Thanks mate, I was planning on rebelling from Vaegirs and taking them over slowly and eliminating the faction. I have one more question though. If I am Vaegirs and we go to war with Nords, I will only lose my faction reputation right? My reputation with the king will stay high as long as I don't force him in to combat or take him prisoner? I want to keep the Nords the good side because they are a tough neighbor and I have good rep with almost all. By the time I leave Merc service to become a vassal of Vaegirs, most of the nords should be well above 20 rep.

Ok this business system is awesome, I see the dev's put a lot of work in to it. Any idea how I can identify what type of business I should put in a town? If they have lots of beer, a bit of bread and like 12 grains I would assume that the grain is being used fast enough, or would a bakery be a good idea? How can I identify which raw materials are produced locally to assure that my business isn't caravan dependent?

This question involves mods. Does any one know of a up-to-date mods that expands weapons and armors? I prefer early medieval and Germanic/Nord types. I see a few that upgrade to 15th century, but that doesn't really interest me because I prefer the gritty dark ages to the high medieval. Also, what graphics upgrades do you recommend?

The next version of 1257 AD?

I still think the pagan Slavs deserve a faction, even if that means removing another. Did the Byzantine Empire even hold a town at this time?

Due to lag, I doubt adding more towns would be a good idea. But if you want to fill out the Geneva, Chambry and Annecy areas I can provide what ever info, or photos you want. Most Europe mods miss the massive lac Leman.   I think once the Holy Roman empire of Germany Second Burgundian Kingdom collapsed in the area, the local ruling family the Savoy dynasty (oldest in Europe and eventual rulers of all Italy) were granted independent duchy status by the German royalty Burgundian King and formed the country of Savoy. We're pretty big on our history here lol. But I doubt more factions would be a good idea.

I'm going to Chambury today to see the castle, wife wants a day out. Grenoble wasn't part of France at the time, it was Savoy and eventually Nice and Turin were as well. The area was occupied by France once but only became France when the Savoys were given the crown of Sicily and gave the region to France to help defend Italy against the Austrian Empire in 1861 1860. (The regions were annexed by France the year before the unification of Italy under the Savoys.)

Also, England ruled part of France as well, but as subjects to the French throne. So making that part of France is accurate.

The Wends are already there; Pomeranian Slavs, Rugians etc.

Currently they are only roaming warbands but as per next version ( I think ) there will be certain scenes ( like bandit lairs ) where you can be mean to their villages.

I'd rather join them, they should be a real factions!

    General suggestions thread.

I'd like to see Wendish pegan Slavs put in to oppose the Teutons and other northern crusaders. I'm no expert on the region but wikipedia says that the norther crusades started the mid 12th century against the pagans and eastern orthodox and lasted until the 16th century. It doesn't say how long the pagans lasted though.

    quick question

I'm going to put my questions here instead of a new thread.

So we can make a new faction whether we started with no faction or if we serve another?

Starting out seams hard, other than doing quests for guild masters is there any people not so tough that I can fight? Right now I'm in Easter Europe and the warbands aren't aggressive but when I challenge them I lose badly.

Are shields worthless? Because my nord shield gets one hit.

I guess I can't delay any further.  I've been waiting for an improved version of motomataru's AI+formations but I guess I'll release it like this even though many things are not finished.

Sorry newb questions. didn't want to start a thread for this. If there is a formations mod built in already, any one have a link on the commands?

Also, is it still possible to start a kingdom in this mod? I know it is historical but only at the start right? We are free to make our own history after? I chose no culture, how will that affect my gameplay and will I still be able to found a kingdom?

By the way, best mod so far. Graphics compilation makes it such a better game and the AI is great. I can't just farm the arena for cash at the start because I get owned!! Love the historical content as well. When I get a a little more advanced on programming I want to do a similar mod based in the early dark ages. With pegan and Christian kingdoms at conflict, no plate and no stirrups. I can't decide if it should be just after Rome or during the Moorish invasion.
