  1. Easy Money Tips?

    Calaran 说:
you could pump your looting and prisoner management and go hunt bandits near their lair. not only does this give you decent gains (about 1.5-3k per battle with a 30 bandit troop), it gives you experience and renown. cant understand why people trade for money. no offense to anyone, im sure its good money once u get a hang of it, but walking around on the world map is hardly my cup of tea.

once your powerful enough, you could choose a faction to piss off and hunt their lords. better loot and more expensive prisoners. and a kings ransom is 10k.

That's why there are horses ;-P But seriously, there are lot of short trade routes that don't require crossing all of Caladria. I usually do Wercheg->Curaw, Curaw->Rivagech/Sargoth, Sargoth->Curaw/Dhirim. It resembles a kind of circle, and let's you hunt sea raiders up north in between.

  2. Should I accept fiefs?

I think it's very very random, but I do know that relations with your liege is super important. I had good relations with King Ragnar (30+) and over 200 days, i was awarded 1 village, 3 castles, and 1 town (that I took by myself). I don't remember clearly, but I think before getting the town i was denied a few other castles I took by myself.

I don't think i'll be awarded any more castles, but recently broke off from the Nords owning Dhirim, Derchios, Thibault castle, all clustered closely together which is pretty cool. The Nords made peace with me right away...so it's a good place to start.

    Best of luck.
  3. Best way to distribute fiefs?

I read somewhere that a lord with more a castle + village will have more troops (over time) than just a single fief, i haven't been able to confirm this yet, i've given Alayen 2 castles and 3 villages, he showed up with 70 men...so at the get-go it has no effect it seems, but maybe over the long run.

I wanted to do this because I don't want tons of lords running around doing crazy stuff (i.e. raiding villages), i'm a micro-manager king and prefer having less lords (with more men)...we'll see how that works out though. Plus i didn't want all my companions being lords...
  4. long battles and the resulting loot of those

That's a good question, i've wondered that myself...how is reknown calculated for that matter if 1 engagement, spans 3 battles.
  5. Manhunters?

They're useful if you arm all your companions with blunt weapons and then have some extra man-hunters to help out, in collecting "sea raiders" and selling them off for money. 30 sea raiders = 3000 denars + loot, not too shabby!
  6. A nice bonus, an enemy lord had 75 prisoners with him!

It was a really nice bonus, because not only did he have 75 prisoners with him that I could recruit, but 12 of them were Mamlukes! The only down-side was my army was almost full, i actually let go a bunch of my nord warriors so I could recruit more Sarranids into my Nord army. I have 50 Swadian...
  7. How do you keep your cavalry from disperding?

It's a good question, but just so you know the correct word you wanted to use was "dispersing" - i'm sure disperding exists, but not sure what it means lol.

Yeah regroup your troops...especially if you fight an opponent who will bring in a 2nd or 3rd wave of reinforcements, and they have a large cavalry component (like Kergits or Sarranids). When another wave of enemies comes in, I regroup all my men to a position or to myself, so that they don't get run over by a cavalry charge which can appear very very fast.
  8. My town's prosperity is increasing!

Great experimenting, i hope that your efforts work, it certainly is too bad that it requires so much effort, more than I'm willing to make (i'm a warmonger nord), but coincidentally I also own Dhirim, but my efforts to increase income revolve more around the whole destruction thing

I've noticed, and this is just an observation, that during peace time, that villages are more likely to become rich or very rich, obviously since they're not being looted, so I think there definitely is a link between Dhirim being poor because it changed hands often and its surrounding lands looted.
  9. Any idea when 1.114 is coming out?

I'm hoping *someone* has the inside track, been waiting for this for a while!
  10. About War

Yeah that's very very unusual, i have yet to play through more than 20-30 days of peace in multiple games (so probably over 100+ hours of real life gameplay time).
  11. Great game, but ..

Aba, i feel your pain, all I can say is that I'm at day 200 in my 5th or so restart, and i've purposefully played so that I don't get till the end game till 1.114 comes out, meaning I'm just building up experience, troops, the towns/castles I own, relations etc...when the time is right (new patch), that's when I will start my own kingdom! Everything up to the end-game is fine and dandy...
  12. Chargers not appearing in market places

Thanks that's good to know...and too bad also, i own Dhirim and i noticed that chargers never showed up. Good thing is Chargers don't die easily, so if you just buy 2-3 extra, you should be good for a long time.

    lspnicol 说:
Pity to say that this is an already known BUG.

After you eliminate Swadia from the game, chargers are no longer available.

Many players on Chinese forum have testified this.

So just back to your previous gamesave in which Swadia still exists, and stockpile dozens of chargers.

If you have got only one gamesave......wow,wow....you may feel like trying out other horses......
  13. Strategy on starting a Kingdom please?

estevesbk - sounds like you should abandon ship, or that castle at least. After starting a few games, i realized you have prepare from day 1 (figuratively speaking) to build your kingdom, it's hard to do so too early on. I'm at day 200, with 3 castles and 1 town (all given by the King). Dhirim and 1 castle are close together, so I've stocked about 500 well trained troops between the town and the 1 castle, in addition to the 120 men I bring with me. I have about 90k Denars stocked up and in peace time build up the villages around Dhirim so I can recruit large numbers quickly.

I don't plan on rebelling against the Nords for another 50-100 days, I want to add at least another 300-400 men to my garrison, because i know the Nords or someone else will come to my doorstep with 1000+ troops, I plan to weather the storm and build up a few Lord/Companions then slowly expand against a weaker faction if possible.

Best advice tho i got from another post, be ready to lose castles....fight enemies in the open field where you smash them with superior troop quality over and over again until they can't muster an army against you, offence, offence!

Anyway, i hope this helps in some small way, i know how you feel!
  14. Type of Heraldic Mail you wear...

Sarranid Boots (sp) are 30-32 protection and weight less than any other heavy armor footwear I think.

Hardened Leather gauntlets provide most protection/weight ratio.

I wear a Lordly Warlord Helmet (so my char's pretty brown eyes show), Coat of Plates and ride a Charger horse, as do all my companions.
  15. Is there a counter to mamlukes?

    Nahkuri 说:
What bothers me about them that the they're tier 5. This of course means they're cheaper and more easiry trained than Swadian Knights or Nords Huscarls(my other favourite troop types,) but also that the Sarranid AI lords get a ****load of them compared to the highest tier troops the lord parties of other factions get. I mean, I've yet to see mother****ing king Ragnar's 200+ man party have more than 5 huscarls, whereas some piss-poor sarranid lord, whose holdings consist of whatever the **** he's wearing and some starving village in the desert, gets easily 20+ Mamlukes. That's way off, I think.

Yeah i agree with you there. I'd love to see a tweak by the developers where Lords with high reknown / many-fief-owner can  field higher-tier units across all factions.

In the meantime, how i've handled Mamlukes is to keep all my men (particularly melee/missle) grouped together, it's still a nasty battle, but at least you have a chance.
  16. Why do companions make terrible lords?

I don't know the numbers, but when Alayan at level 25 in my game became a lord, I could give up troops, and he had well over 150...i never tried going over, because i ran out of troops to give him...
  17. Is there a counter to mamlukes?

Isn't it great that there's challenge in the game?

At least the Sarranid lords field high-end units, i'm tired of cutting down peasants! In all honesty, my faction (the nords) have yet to go to war with the Sarranids, but in other games, it was like facing an army of my own, maybe that's not a bad thing!
  18. How do you group?

It's a good idea to put your top looter and your doctor companion to the rear - they'll get less XP that way I think, but better than losing a bunch of units in my opinion. Something I need to do...i have Jeremus mounted, gave him the best armor I could afford (once I can get him a warhorse/charger, he'll live longer).

  19. Becoming king and getting the full right to rule help-

Euh, it's not the wrong area to post in, but there is an exhaustive post that explains it, is *NOT* a sticky yet, so until then...
  20. Blunt weapons are your best friend (for making money)

Well you learn something new every game - before I started warband I made money by selling gear which wasn't very profitable, then after I played warband for a bit, I focused more on tournaments/bandit lairs, that was good. The third game I started over, I focused more on trading and doing...
