  1. The Dhirim Campaign - Shortest but Bloodiest Campaign

I'd like to participate as a mercenary for the Vaegirs.

    RD esti tu?

I pretty much wanted to do something very similar but got no bites for it
  3. Calling all Haiduc/Hajduk

I plan on forming a unit that will use and keep the military tradition of the (east) Roman Empire, and later the various Balkan states keeping a focus fighting quickly and smart. I don't have a vent channel, I don't have a website and for a while I plan on keeping this variously small in order...
  4. Damn it...

Yea exactly and once you are in the castle all you can do is wait and then they attack and all you can do is join the fight.

I dont see the problem. Just kill them.

I can't. Most of my troops are recruits.

Well, you can either try to find a way to dodge them, which should be possible since with party size of 1 you're vastly faster than anybody else, or you can try to make a stand in the castle. Your call. *shrug*

They're literally RIGHT UP against me as in if i touch the space bar I get attacked.
  6. Damn it...

or if you have archers on the side then get a few shields and block until their all broken, then start hacking with your 2h

and if your really desperate change to battlesize to 25

    I have like two archers.

I might change the battlesize to 25 and just call muligen.

Forget the battle, leave everyone you have in the castle and go sign up with a faction that isn't at war with whoever is besieging you ASAP. Your relationship with them will reset and they'll break off the siege.

So I took a Khergit castle on the Khergit/Vaegir border, you know the one ontop of the mountain. I do this BEFORE I join a faction so I know that i'll get it. And then I go join up the Vaegirs. I garrison the castle with about 80 or so assorted troops and out of no where those dirty southern...
  8. Using Spears Effectively

Yea momentum gets calculated either way. If a horse rides full speed at you and you hit it, that horse is dead.
  9. Using Spears Effectively

It took me a while to get used to also. It's annoying if you don't have good athletics cause the enemy goes up right against you and you can't really fight.
  10. Using Spears Effectively

I think the issue is that people say spears are bad because they use spears as they would a sword and it doesn't work that way.

yeah, but that's not really especially relevant to spears.

Yea it is. You do way more damage if you run toward someone and stab. I was sneaking into a Rhodok city when I got caught and after bashing a spearman dead I killed the others with the spear I picked up by charging. In my first stab I did 78 damage by running forward and stabbing.
  12. Poleaxe - Where have you been all my life?

Perfect story for this. So when I first started playing I saw the pole axe and thought "what better weapon to swing around as you ride a horse?" But to my dismay you can't do much but poke when on horse back. I found this out mid battle when I was fighting khergit band o ponies. Eventually my horse got shot out from under me and I ended up face first in the dirt. Being a bit peeved at my current predicament after sharing a few words with the khergits of my native tongue I remembered the large pole axe I had hidden on me somewhere. So here comes Atilla the soon to be screwed riding full speed at me winged mace in hand. I stood to his left to bait him to raise his weapon on that side. At the last moment I jumped to the other taking a full swing and hidding the horse square in the chest with the pole axe and I could swear the poor animal's chest exploded chunks or at least it did in my gleefully giggling imagination. And there goes atilla sliding through the dirt as if he were on a slip n slide and he'd have gotten away too were it not for the tree trunk that disagreed quite stubbornly by his course of movement. Mean while before the little pony rider could get up I had lifted the pole axe and brought it down, just once.

I will say though, that playing horse archer seems to be the most unbalanced... at least against AI. If this is anywhere near how reality works, then I don't see why all armies back then didn't have at least a contingent of horse archers in their army.

Horse Archery is a very effective tactic albiet a bit over rated by arm chair tacticians. As to why not all armies did not have them...well with the exception of western europe almost everyone else did. From Vienna to Kyoto some sort of horse archer existed. Magyars, Romanians, Russians, Turks, Saracens, the whole mish mash of Turco-Mongolic people, Chinese, Japanese, they all had horse archers. They had them in western europe but the emphasis was different. Horse archers have their own weaknesses too. Their advantage was more macro than micro as they could attack an enemy quickly. On the micro side of things, take 100 foot archers vs 100 horse archers and as long as the horsemen can not rush in at the foot archers, the ground bound shooters will win. You can be more accurate and carry a stronger bow when on foot. Horse archery does not rely on accuracy shooting but targeting the "clumps" of soldiers. Even in M&B its better to shoot at a ground rather than an individual.

If you're having trouble with horse archers, don't fight them on their terrain. A little patch of trees can do wonders. I remember one battle I had in my early game where I had no option but to fight a battle against khergits. My army was mostly made up of rhodok spearmen, crossbows and some companions and cavalry. So I rushed everyone to this patch of forest, dismount everyone and had them grouped up amongst these trees. I could shoot out at the khergits, they couldn't really shoot in. Eventually some of them charged in and got caught on the spearwall and horses that my soldiers dismounted off of and we clobbered them.

Chasing horse archers with slower cavalry and infantry is pointless. How can you balance that? Get yourself some rhodok sharpshooter and vaegir marksmen, some rhodok infantry with large shields infront of them and just wait. Eventually they'll shoot the horses out and a horse archer without a horse is a nice target to bonk on the head with a mace.
  17. Kataphract Build

I'm sort of looking for a mod that adds more units/items and better AI and politics but without changing any of the factions.
  18. Kataphract Build

    isnt it obvious?

    scythian cataphracts...

Yea they had them. Almost all horse people did.

Why strong bow and not something smaller for horseback archery?

Strongbows are already compact and provide more damage for only slightly less speed. You don't need the Khergit speed because you aren't doing to be doing that much fast shooting but if you need to the Strongbow does it well enough.

That chain mask helmet is probably the rus helm which is in the games folders already. All you need to add it is the item editor and you don't need to be a modder to use that.
Edit: Actualy the khergit war helm would work better. Just give it a merchandise tag in the item editor.

I hate working with mods but if it's already in the game, how do I have it show up? Mind you i'm fairly computer inept when it comes to this sort of thing. I have vista btw.

I think the Spiked Mace is long enough to be effective from horseback (90 as I recall) and perhaps the slightly shorter winged mace. I agree the charger and warhorse armours are probably not ideal, perhaps a scale armour would be better. And the strongbow is fairly compact isn't it? I don't think it's unfeasible that it'd be used from horseback; the Khergit Bow is similar in size.

I'll often use a scimitar or even a bardiche than a mace. Mace is more for prisoners than anything else.
  19. Do I hear wedding bells in Calradia? Alayen and Ymira!

I'm sure everyone else that got the game for the deep soul stirring story line is asking themself the same thing.
  20. Are Rhodoks effective? A poll.

I did a mercenary campaign for Rhodokos and they were a joy to use against Khergits. They had that big shield for the spear wall and the crossbowmen just mauled everything. I generally used what little cavalry I had to keep the Khergits from out flanking.

Another tactic I used early on is I ended up having to fight a larger Khergit force and it was all open field except for this one patch of forest. Maybe a half dozen or so trees standing just close enogh. I told the few cav that I had to dismount and they stood together with the Rhodok spear wall while their crossbows shot out. The khergits circled around shooting but the trees and shields made it hard for them to do much damage. Once in a while one or two would charge through and get caught on the spearwall or tree or horse. Then they died.
