That's my fault. The yed-left just works too well to not use for the majority of attacks. Still waiting on somebody to copy Goris' feints perfectly.

still obviously a lot of people watching this thread though, as it jumps straight to the top of the 'warband discussion' list as soon as someone posts something.

So, is Warband dead, or are you all just being uncharacteristically silent?
warbands a great game, but apart from the odd scrim, lacks the real competitive side, which it has had in the past, which really keeps people regularly playing

My issue with the war of the roses combat system was that every two to three hits will crush through blocks, and with the basic swords, you can only get through heavily armoured players with stabs. Even then, the stabs don't appear to actually interupt the swings, even when doing damage, so it turns in to a more armour and heavier weapon = win game. The health system is also silly. Also, I can never get less than 100 ping to a war of the roses server, even though I can manage to get 40 ping to warband servers.

Edit: A few of the combat mechanics seem poorly thought out as well. I noticed some of the thrusting 2handers have no stun if you manage to block them, unlike warband. This has the consequence of allowing someone to continually thrust at you without you having the ability to counter.
i agree. the combat isn't very good.

I completely disagree with you on the best player being able to win for each side. This assumes massive difference between the teams in group fighting. At the moment, absolutely no regular players (including myself) can group-fight efficiently anymore, which is a severe problem with the state of the 'community'. In fact, the fire and sword offshoot, and previously the crpg offshoot even shunned group fighting as somehow cheap. This is utterly silly as it is quite trivial to become somewhat unkillable in a 1v1 given proper latency.

People assume that the players who are decent at duelling will somehow be good at the 3v3s. They won't. The 3v3s will be dominated by people like the legendaries and others who are used to cooperating. The Australian warband community needs to forget the whole idea of duelling as being anything more than something to teach you how to manual block and not get kickslashed, because there is literally nothing  more to it.
well i disagree. For the most part, I think that the skills would transfer. In only a 3v3, you would think that most of the fighting would be 1v1's and 2v1's. Ergo, someone who can quickly gain ascendancy and win duels will be very dominant in this sort of situation.

your views on dueling, while correct on a fundamental level, aren't really realistic. Sure, if you just blocked and swung every time without moving hardly, sure, you could get unkillable. However, in the process of actually trying to get the kill, you inevitably open yourself up to attack. Excess feinting leads to spam, riposting leads to holding attacks etc.

i agree with throwing weapons and ranged being too easy, it is. it's a bit of a shortcut to getting kills.

However, I'm not sure i agree with what you say about the scrims. Effort does equal reward in most cases, if you look at a 1v1 fight even with shields, generally (90% of the time) the better player will win. The majority part of scrims is teamwork, its not for 'lone rangers'. There is still a lot of room for individual skill because ranged is limited. There has to be a downside of not using a shield though, and this is vulnerability to ranged.

Something like 3v3 battles would be interesting, but i dont think it really work though. The best player out of the 6 would just keep winning it for their side. I think the ideal number of participants that balances individual skill and good teamwork is about 8 per team.

i was in the beta as well, it was good fun.  I still remember most of the horrible bugs that were in it, that one that caused your game to crash if you fell off a horse, quite brilliant

what do you guys think of war of the roses?

    how can i refuse.
Must say im not a fan of the any weapon rule though. Is everyone just gonna run around with great long axes? It means if your opponent chooses a 'gla' (which will be common no doubt), you basically have to choose a weapon of comparable length, 1h is out of the question. This is true against the top players any way
Should be made standard, everyone gets default swadian 2h sword or something.

    name: TGD_Cheeky_Demon
    screenshot: i think everyone knows
length of play: around 1200 hours
weapon: depends what the opponent gets (would prefer elite scimitar)

with regards to the mod, its good but is there a reason why the extra items have to have the exact same stats as the existing items. Could you not have the extra items to fill in the 'gaps' in the existing armour lineup

is it possible for you to fix the roof glitch on nord town, it ****s me to tears

edit: this was said when I was frustrated by the rawrs. I shoud also point out that it's a feature of the map that wasn't intended by the developer and is basically inaccessible if the violators are aware of you.

yeah a 7v7 is probably a minimum, otherwise you just end up with players just sort of dueling each other and teamwork and strategy doesnt come into it

You should try and recruit a couple more players. From experience, 5v5 is a tad small.
